1. In my opinion, the strongest influence are "family pressures". In the past, it could be the matriarch of the family - the eldest family member e.g. the grand mother or the great grand mother who has the final say.

2. Thus if the hierachy top down says No, it means totally NO!

3. In modern times; so long as both immediate families understand - reasonable explanation; and accept it, then go ahead... with it.

4. The reason why there is no issue with marriage in most years other than preferences such as dislike of Tiger year etc... is that one should select good dates or auspicious dates.

5. Thus, look at it this year, even if we are in a Tiger year; as there are different days for different animal signs. For example, today can be a day for the goat, thus it does not mean that every day under the Tiger sign is a tiger day.

My fiancee and I (both born in Year of Goat) are considering marriage in the Year of the Tiger.

There has been hearsay that one should avoid marriage in Year of Tiger if possible.
