How to tell stacks facing afternoon sun?

With the extended overhang above this 2nd storey stack/unit at block 664A Punggol Drive;

One can notice that even at around 3.30pm, the extended overhang roof helps to shade the fa?ade of this unit's room.

However, in general, the lower the stack/unit; the greater the range of shade vs afternoon sun hours.

I love the nice touch of HDB Waterway Sunbeam at Punggol Drive.

Stacks directly facing West and SW - such as that found at Block 664A Punggol Drive, Waterway Sunbeam =?are all installed with the overhanging roof to shade the units at least from afternoon sun usually around 12pm onwards to around even up to 3pm or 3.30pm depending on the height of the units within each stack.

While the morning sun side i.e. easterly side does not need to have such a long overhang.
