Staff Cecil Lee Posted January 25, 2010 Staff Share Posted January 25, 2010 1. In Singapore, this is little know nor published fact. 2. When I first started doing Feng Shui decades ago; I was amazed that the width of the main entrance door of the First Generation HDB flats had auspicious measurements. 3. Ignoring the grille gate of this sample home; the width of the opening is auspicious based on the Feng Shui Ruler. Even if we include both the two sides ofsupport frames of the main door; it is also auspicious. 4. There is no record of how this came about. Most likely, in my opinion, it may cometo this as an "accident". Most likely; a Chinese furniture maker/ manufacturer was tasked to design an entrance door; and this furniture maker saw fit to make it based on the imperial Feng Shui ruler measurement. 5. In the 2nd generation of HDB flats, there are single leaf doors that are 35 inches with a mix of the larger doors with two leafs: the larger leaf is 42 inches with a smaller leaf. 42 inches is still considered auspicous under the Feng Shui ruler. 6. For the door; as it depends on the type of floor tiles laid; thus this results in totally different heights : for example; some homes in the past cannot affort tiles so theysimply cement screed the entire home. While others usethicker terrasso tilesand later onmosaic and even ceramic tiles. 7. The heightin terms of Feng Shui ruler is less important. As the Qi is often looked at in terms of the width. 8. Thus, many homes with partitions : often go for either42 inches or the maximium 49 3/4 inches. Some partitions may go for the lesser 35 inches. 9. For the newer generation flats especially those constructed after 1980's onwards, the partition size of 42 inches will cover the main door - as the smaller leave dooris not often opened. 10. What should be thesize of the main door? If it is based on the Feng Shui ruler (or the imperial carpentry ruler): 9.1. for a small apartment: like the 1st generationHDB flats : one single leaf door is overall 35 inches. 9.2 Other widths include 42 inches; 49 3/4 inches; Usually it can be one leaf or one leaf and a smaller leaf or two equal leaf of say 42 inches by 42 inches. For a home the largest such doors should be is 58 inches unless the home is a huge castle or mansion. 10. In Feng Shui, it is strongly recommended that all home doors open inwards: The main door excluding grille or screens for the doorThe back door excluding grille gate-doorAll bedroom doors should open inwards unless it is a door to the wardrope, in this case it can be sliding doors. There is no issue with toilet doors or kitchen door unless it is opening out to the backyard. 11. Attached is the picture of a single leaf Government Housing Board Flat door. This door was installed for homes in the 1960s onwards until around 1980's; after which, the newer flats had two leaf doors of which one leaf is small mostly for the purpose of bringing in bulk furniture or even a piano. Staff Cecil Lee Posted August 20, 2018 Author Staff Share Posted August 20, 2018 In my opinion, most likely the Singapore government at that time did not actively pursue the requirement for Feng Shui friendly main entrance door and door frames. Most likely what happened was the HDB architects checked with the suppliers of doors. And was given these specifications. Or the building Contractors took their own initiative. Thus led to Feng Shui Friendly doors. Today, many door manufacturers built doors based upon the specifications of the architects. And often the architects in Singapore prefer to use the metric system adopted by our country. This often a one-leaf main door’s width is 1 metre or 80cm
Staff Cecil Lee Posted October 14, 2019 Author Staff Share Posted October 14, 2019 Interlude: Many Feng Shui Masters are actually a Salesperson with a Feng Shui Store in disguise.
