sun888_99
Dear cecil,What is the correct way of placing LUK FUK and SAU.I read that the SAU is always placed at the left of the FUK but I saw in the restaurant the SAU was placed on the right side of the FUK and the explanation was that the first is health then wealth and in the end prosperity. So the statues were placed with SAU then FUK and then LUK. So can you tell us which placement is correct. Thanks.
Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 26, 1999 Staff Share Posted November 26, 1999 Dear Anon, 1. In Chinese/Mandarin, it is called it Fu, Lu and Shou. 1.1. They are suppose to be the Gods of 三星 [sanxing] Three Stars. 1.2. Each God has a certain quality:- Fu = Prosperity Lu = Status Shou = Longevity. 1.2. Previously, in Singapore, we were given the aspirations of trying to achieve the 5 Cs: Cash, Car, Credit Card, Condominium and finally Country Club. Today, it is becoming more and more a Utopia for majority of the young Singaporeans. 1.3. The Fu Lu Shou has it's origins in the Ming Dynasty. And it is in that era and beyond like the THREE Cs: Prosperity, Status and Longevity. LOL 1.4. Hokkien dialect group calls it: Hock, Lock and Siew. 1.5. While your posting: LUK FUK and SAU = Cantonese style way of saying it out. 2. The next thing to note is that in all traditional Chinese (Mandarin) books are written with words from right to left. From the second clue, you will notice that the correct way to place the 3 statues is to start from Right to left (facing you). Therefore, Fu should be placed furthest to the Right; middle is Lu and Shou is to your left. Hope that helps. Staff Cecil Lee Posted April 17, 2020 Staff Share Posted April 17, 2020 1. This is the traditional placement. As explained previously Chinese way of writing (books) is always from Right to Left. 1.1. Thus Right is Fu and center is Lu. 1.2. Longevity or Shou is suppose to be to the extreme left of this photo. His right hand holds an Apricot symbolises longevity. 1.3. For clarity, here goes:- 2. If one has the time to see the Celestial Channel (Hong Kong made shows) on Cable TV; there are many Kung Fu films where they have this figurine behind the Table where two chairs are placed in the living room. Staff Cecil Lee Posted October 27, 2020 Staff Share Posted October 27, 2020 The three gods are not prayer items. Just that this is not a “politically correct” placement:
