Dear Kelvin,
1. There are two methods:-
The `9-grid' that you had mentioned or a `pie-chart' method.
2. For your case, it is much easier to apply the pie-chart method.
3. In the attached illustration:
3.1 At the East cardinal compass direction, the sector for the pie-chart at East (E) should be as shown:
Where blue coloured X to Z is = (equal) to Z to Y. And the exact compass direction at East (E) is at the mid-point of the pie.

Dear All,
1. Attached please find another sample of the pie-chart method.
2. Under this example, one can clearly see each sector is `labelled' showing the sector of influence.
3. Overall, I personally prefer to apply the `pie-chart' method over the 9-grid method.
4. For example, one can even prepare a pie-chart frame and print it on a transparency. And this transparency can be placed on-top of say an A4 sized layout plan. - Very effective!
