If someone who is familiar with Boon Keng today is transported back in time; the person should have no problems navigating through the area. The major changes would be the Whampoa River leading to Kallang River would be a wonderful sight, then. Government Street map of 1954. A = Boon Keng MRT B = Bendemeer House demolished. Phoenix Residences at the junction of Phoenix Avenue with Phoenix Road. Leasehold 99 years. Site plan shows a U-shaped design. The only difference is that this inverted U takes advantage of the open space afforded by the border facing SAF Hillview Camp. Frankly, I am not sure what is the view like overlooking into the fringe of Hillview Camp. Hopefully not a covered high fence or the motor pool or barracks or storage grounds. Facing the Ammo Dump means clear space as often the Ammo Dump is underground with only one storey level poking out of the ground.
