  1. Dear Cecil, As long as we are discussing plants, can you tell me about the uses of bamboo plants in feng shui? No book that I have read so far mentions bamboo (aside from bamboo flutes etc.). A co-worker gave me a large bamboo plant. Are the sharp pointed leaves inauspicious in any way? Thank you. :o) --Joe
  2. Hello... I understand from the Forum here that using plants in the bedroom is no good because plants are yang and the bedroom should be restful. My question: there is a corner in he bedroom that protrudes. I want to cover the sharp edge with fake ivy to eliminate any sha. In feng shui, would artificial plants be considered too yang for a bedroom? Thanks. --Joe
  3. Dear Cecil and Robert, Now that I know my true birth element, is it worthwhile to avoid wearing clothing with colors that weaken my element? Or would this be a waste of time? Just curious. :o) --Joe
  4. Dear Cecil and Robert, A post from Rose Say makes me wonder: can feng shui be applied to "group homes" (houses or buildings where people with mental illness or retardation reside)?? It seems that applying f.s. to this situation would be extremely difficult due to the number of people (in some places, there are as many as 200!). I have worked in some places like this and I wonder whether anything can be done using f.s. to improve the situation. This is of great interest to me. What are your thoughts? Thanks. :)
  5. Dear Cecil, Thanks for pointing me to the website on pa kua. Very helpful! Now one last question on this topic: My living room has two entrances (no doors just an entry-way). Standing at the center of the room, you see one door leads into the dining room. The other leads to the small foyer where the front door is. When applying the pa kua: Whichis considered the main doorway for the living room? In other words, where do I begin the pa kua and the various points of the room? I hope this makes sense and I thank you for your patience with my many questions. :) Kieron
  6. Dear Cecil, I'm confused about ba gua and pa-kua. I understand a bit about the ba gua. When I saw the term "pa-kua" I thought it was a different phonetic spelling of ba gua, but now I realize they're different things. Can you please explain pa kua, or advise me where I can find out more? None of the books I have read say much about it. Thank you for your help. Kieron
  7. Dear Cecil, After much thought I think I understand your reply. I've decided that in the end, what matters is my intuition and whether something feels "right" or "wrong" for my situation, rather than letting some authors tell me I should be doing this or that. For example, before I realized that the toilet occupies the Wealth section, I had insisted on keeping the door shut at all times. Now I understand that I was listening to my inner voice. Thanks for your help. Kieron
  8. Dear Cecil, I am consulting two books and I hope you can help. Book #1 is "Feng Shui Step by Step" by T. Raphael Simons, which was recommended somewhere on Geomancy-Forum. Simons describes Lucky Stars and also the Eight Points. #1: Are Flying Stars and Lucky Stars the same thing? #2 Are the Eight Points and the Eight Associations the same things? Book #2 is "Healing Design" by Hope Karan Gerecht. It was given as a gift. Do you know anything about the accuracy of this writer? Also, I have plotted the Eight Points (or Houses) in my house. There are 3 floors in all. On the main level and the upper level, it appears that there is a toilet in the Money point. This distresses me because money has always been an area of worry for me (money was scarce when I was young). Should I keep the bathroom doors shut? How to keep money and qi from running down the drain? I realize that this is a lot of topics in one post but I thank you for whatever advice you can offer. Kieron
  9. Dear Cecil, There is a dead or dying tree on the border between my house property and the house next door. I have heard that dying trees are poison arrows but other books make no reference to this. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. :) Kieron
  10. Greetings! I recently bought a house built in 1908. When examining it, I received nothing but positive vibrations. However I am concerned about a possible secret/poison arrow in my bedroom. The room is square, with a window facing approx. south and another approx. west. On the SW corner, due to the shape/style of the roof, there is an indentation of the wall. The corner juts toward the bed, and the wall itself slants upward to meet the ceiling at this area. Unfortunately I cannot place the bed elsewhere as the room layout will not allow it. I'm unwilling to place the head of the bed underneath the slanting wall b/because I heard it would compress my chi. Am I to understand that the indentation part could cause problems? If so, what do I need to do? Thanks in advance. Kieron
