Hi, I'm very new to Feng Shui and was delighted to find this site to help answer some questions. Since I became interested in Feng Shui, I've purchased and read, a number of books by varying authors. The more I read the more fascinated I've become, but in some cases, the more confused. I would be great full if you could clarify some very basic questions.
1. In some of the books I have, they give an English pronunciation for Feng Shui - (Fung Shway), (Fung Shoy), (Foong Shway). Which if any is correct?
2. As I live in New Zealand, I have wondered if a book suggests that the south is a favourabe direction, should I translate that to being the north, as this is were the sun is down here, or is north, north and south, south no matter where you live, according to Feng Shui?
That's all for starters.
Thanks very much
Shelley

Dear Shelley,
I glad that you find the site useful. Feel free to use the " Search "
feature on most pages of the website or for specific messages, login to this
forum, there is also a Search icon. This is one of the most easiest way to
search through the vast amounts of information available in this website.
To answer your question:
1. The correct Romanized words for Feng Shui is : " Feng Shui ". The
rest of the spelling are not proper way to write Feng Shui.
2. For more about the North-South debate go to this url:
http://www.geomancy.net/fs/addsites.htm#SOUTH
In general, most Feng Shui practioners (Traditional Schools) like myself
believe that you do not need to alter or change the theory even " down under
". Feng Shui Theories especially the Compass Schools Theory should not be
modified for the South.
Another point to note is that in the above URL, you should also read the
Confessions of Lin Yun of the Black Sect Tantric Buddist or Black Hat Sect
Feng Shui. This school is NOT recognised by Traditional Feng Shui Practice.
Just today, I received an e-mail from a webmaster of a Black Hat Sect asking
to be conferred with the Feng Shui Award (this award is from Geomancy.net
inconjunction with Wind and Water Ring). I commented to the webmaster that
his site is lovely and nice BUT, his site did not criteria for the Award as
it does not practise Traditional Feng Shui.
My advise is also not to read from only one author but as many as possible.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil Lee
