In Japan, local farmers prepare to pack and ship full-grown square watermelons. The idea of square watermelons was first developed 20 years ago so that they easily fit in refrigerators. The melons are placed in square tempered glass while they are growing. Source and credit: Los Angeles Times (6/15/2001)

With Singapore being a pretty small country, it's easy to kid ourselves into thinking we know all there is to know about the city. But after a long stare at this infographic (oh, how we love a spot of data porn), it became fairly obvious that we know far, far less than we thought. Who knew that we had a gazillion different trees? And we're super speedy when it comes to getting around on foot? And the huge wheel that we tend to forget about is the hugest of them all? Check out the infographic for yourselves to discover even more about our proud little island:- http://www.exmag.sg/ex-files/infographic-10-cool-things-about-singapore

The Correct Way Of Eating Fruits - By Devagi Sanmugam We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not so easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat fruits. Do you know of anyone who hates fruits? Most likely no. Everyone will immediately tell you about the fruits they like very much. The reason why everyone likes fruits is because our bodies crave for it instinctively. The colour, the texture, the aromas and the sweetness all make it very attractive. But I find that most of us tend to think of fruits as a treat e.g. on a hot day - water melon! But do you know that fruit is an important food t…

I find this article a great life learning experience! In accounting; this is called "zero base accounting" i.e. starting from scratch! This article is indeed a good guideline to life learning! Source: The Straits Times, 1 June 2011:- Pay for towels at this hotel: TUNE (Chain of) Hotels Tune Hotels has adopted a budge airline approach where guests pay extra for extras. "When we first started, people thought we were joking," said Mr Lankester, a former entertainment industry executive. "But we're not hoteliers, so we were prepared to try."

Frankly, it is a small issue. For now, anyone can easily from the outside, press the internal exit door switch to open the security gate. I believe no issue, a box cover could easily be placed onto the exit switch... Location: The Livia condo at Pasir Ris

This postcard was taken in the 1970's. Therefore, there were few tall buildings. The tall buildings on the right of the photos like People's Park Complex and other buildings were only constructed after the 1970's.. Previously; the building covered by clay (reddish) bricks was the only tallest building around in the 1960's. It is the forerunner of the now Housing Development Board (HDB). And guess what... it is a diving platform for a one-way trip to HELL! In the past;?one could often?see an old lady standing on the road cursing at the building. Why? That was the building where her son tried to be a superman.. but failed miserably.. or rather fatally!

Just returned from Jakarta, Indonesia The first thing after coming out of the terminal was seeing the A & W Restaurant... It is a real pity that we no longer get to see this chain any more in Singapore. Their coney (hot-dog) for one and that unique frozen mug where they pour coke and an optional vanilla ice-cream

In my opinion, no country is immune from having people who fall thru the gaps of social support. Singapore prides itself in being seen as a country without destitutes? Some even say that Singapore is now in a situation of Social Recession. Photo taken at Bedok Central (outside KFC) at around 6.20am.......

The purpose of bringing up this (unverified) story is that, it is always good to check on the `past' history of the place you are intending to buy especially if it is for sale at a very (very) attractive price. One way is that we could perhaps check with the neighbours .... ------ Some comments -------- Don't know how true this story is!!!! Scary! ----- Extract of unknown article ----- I still remember when my office phone rang, my wife was on the line saying that she spotted a maisonette (a two level flat/apartment) in The Strait Time and it was in Jurong West Street 42 Block 547, Singapore and the price was attractive!!. So we arranged a viewing with the agent and boug…

Believe or not. (Source unknown) - for fun.... (A) Is your birthday day 1 of the month? Your Life You are very curious and dedicative. When you are interested in something, everything else has to wait. This is your quality. But if you learn to be more patient and complete what you have started, you will be successful in life. Your Love You believe in love at first sight. You won't wait to learn more about the person. Vise versa, people who fail to impress you will hardly get a chance to be your friend. Your emotion is on the extreme. You can only love or hate, nothing in between and this often shows in your statement. Try not to end a relationship in a quarrel. (B) Is …
