This Chinese restaurant @ Aperia Mall, Kallang displays a pair of an old school pair of qi lin(s). This version is rarely or never found in homes. More like it belongs to the Ming Tombs or rather guarding the Ming Tombs of China

[Note: This message contains 4 images. Each image range from 55k to 27k] 1. In modern times, Chinese Red Packets or Hong Bao (in Mandarin) and Ang Pow (in Hokkien) are given by married couples to their elders and to children of relatives and friends and unmarried family members during Chinese New Year. *Joke* The advantage is to remain single and unmarried. Here, the parents or relatives may continue to give you yearly Red packets. -But in real life, this is True- 2. Remember if one gives a Hong Bao to give money in `pairs' e.g. $2, $4, $10 etc... Never give money in odd numbers e.g. $1, $3 etc... This signifies loneliness. 3. It is common especially for Banks, businessne…

These are some considerations: 1. A traditional altar arrangement. 1.1. This is a typical set-up where there is (a.) a Deity (e.g. Goddess of Mercy) (b.) a Ancestor tablet. 1.2. What makes this altar table unique is that when standing facing the altar, the Deity must always be on the Right and the table raised at his area. 1.3. The ancestor tablet sits on the left and slightly lower. 2. What are the altar dimensions? 2.1. Standard height for any altar: 125cm to 128cm. If a piece of glass is to be placed on the altar, then go for 125cm. 2.2. Width depends on your needs: 18cm to 23cm or 40cm to 43cm or 59.5cm to 69cm…

Case Study: This home has a very practical and functional window design at their flat/unit with living room windows sharing the common corridor of a HDB flat. The home owners changed the existing sliding windows by "splitting it into two. With the lower half being frosted. Has to anything to do with Feng Shui? Not directly. It has more to do with common sense. For example, if one is more likely to open the windows because of the split windows; this means that the home can be more airy and allow for better ventilation within. As compared to a home owner that always closed all their windows facing the corridor for fear that someone could peep in or for p…

The semi-circular steps radiating outwards is nowadays a rare-sight. Most likely one of the reasons is that these steps are not that friendly especially to the elderly and may in fact be dangerous as they could easily trip on them

The Marina Bay Sands Resort & Casino is the only two casino initiatives to make Singapore a more attractive and vibrant city. This development consists of three cascading hotel towers. The unique feature of this development is that the top of the three towers are joined together to contain a sky park. It also has crystal floating pavillions and a lotus-inspired ArtScience Museum and retail stores. Many celebrity chef restaurants, entertainment theatres, night clubs and Vegas-style casino. There are also venues for meetings and conferences. Pictures taken on Wednesday, 29 July 2009.

This message shows three interesting `bat' motifs or pictures: 1. First picture: If one bat is considered as bringing one good fortune. What happens if there are two bats? You may have guessed correctly! Two bat motifs signify double good fortune! 2. Second picture: The bat is in the centre. The actual diagram is the profile of the Longevity symbol " Shou ". As in Fu Lu Shou A bat symbol is included in the above to imply one will have longevity plus good fortune. 3. Third picture: Shows five bats. Five bats indicate " receiving " gifts. You will also notice in the earlier message, that some Chinese boys are catching a bat and there are a total of five bats in some of the …

Symphony Suites @ Yishun is certainly a neat "production" line block layouts. Such sites reminds me of tightly packed "road grids". Very sterile and the purpose to pack as many blocks and stacks as possible in a "small space - site". This site reminds me of the "no brainer" soon to TOP site : " Treasure Trove " in Punggol. Other than a slight cure of Blocks 50, 52 and 54; the rest of the other 12 blocks (Imagine: this development has a total of 15 "point-blocks" sandwiched together. From a Shapes and Forms point of view; both Symphony suites and Treasure Trove fortunately has a favourable square/rectangular site. Perhaps, this is the only major consolation. And thus…

I knew when the development called 100 Trees condo (at West Coast) reached T.O.P. that it really had lots of trees. Not that I counted them, but I guess the development must have about that many trees. But I was trying to figure out why they call it “Tree House.” Perhaps I stumbled on the reason the other day. When I saw the Sky View tower and zoomed in to take the following photos, one of the photos showed a distinct large beam. We can call it a “tree trunk” with several branches. OIC! Holy smoke! This must be the reason why it is called the TREE HOUSE!

Related: Which units are lucky at Skyville @ Dawson? +++ Even if an architect is only paid to design the interior layout; at least; the architect should try to put themselves "in the shoes of home owner". How true; always that: "We stay there, you don't applies!". Just take a look at this HDB 4 bedroom flat layout in some of the stacks of Skyville @ Dawson. (See attachment). A. THE LIVING ROOM 1. Although the living room width is of a generous or rather "too generous" size; instead; the architect should have should have an allowance at marking in red "A" for a reasonable sized dining table, there. 2. As a result of this no…

1. In the 1960s to 1970s, the bougainvillea plant, especially the red and purple varieties, was very popular with Singapore landed property homes. 2. Many people planted bougainvillea at the corners of their homes for a reason: with its thorns, it was less likely for a robber to climb into the home from the fencing area. 3. However, the bougainvillea plant needs constant trimming, or it can quickly become overgrown. 4. This house has both bougainvillea and, just behind the cluster of bougainvillea plants, the Lipstick or Maharaja palm. The Lipstick palm has been very popular from the mid-1980s till today, surpassing bougainvillea and even mango and rambutan…

This year, is the year of "sky bridges". And this "sky" bridge at HDB Casa Clementi should be considered the Mother of all sky bridges... Look at the two photos, it must costs quite alot of money to build an oval elderly friendly link bridge. BUT, we do pity the person pushing say a wheel chair from the ground up onto this ramp very elaborate rap. For heaven's sake, all blocks have lift and they also stop at this "garden" area. In my opinion, no wonder, why the price of new government or rather PUBLICH housing home priceshave shot-up! SOME ONE MUST have been made to subsidise such elaborate structures... GUESS WHO?

This is a good design as there is minimal support pillars for each of the car porch in this twin semi-detached homes. The roofs are slightly slanted to allow for active water-flow during a downpour. Thus driving into and opening car doors is a piece of cake. Overall a good designWITHOUT the need for those wires that dangle and support the roof anchored to the wall.

I have encountered many layouts similar to these in various HDB flats located all over Singapore e.g. Fernvale Block 4xx etc... Under Symbolism in Feng Shui, it is common sense that when we enter a home or apartment, our first impression counts. Here... just go ahead and imagine...
