Ayam Bua Keluk dish

1. Ayam means chicken
2. Bua means seed.
3. Bua Keluk means a type of seed. Please see "circled" in red in the picture, below.


The seed comes from Indonesia. And is also very popular with the Pernakan Chinese. Migrating Chinese who were assimilated into the Malay (and Bugis) culture of the region.


In Singapore, high concenrtations of the Pernakan Chinese could be found in the Katong (and Joo Chiat) district (in the early 1940's to 1980's). Some are still there. In Malaysia in Malacca.


Taste of the Bua Keluk? Earthy taste - taste to be acquired. Very young seeds have a "liver" coloured tone. And these can be bitter.
