1. This is a true story:

1.1 Hong Kong Shanghai Bank (HSBC) buiding in Hong Kong was built, first.

1.2 Bank of China's (BOC) building came later. And it is shaped like a Chinese sword.

1.3 To counteract this, HSBC bank shaped it's helicopter pad in the form of a cannon aimed back towards BOC.

1.4 To make the story short, later on, the Cheung Kong center placed two18th century cannons (or twin cannons) against another building.

2. So you want to place a cannon?

Even if it is an ornamental cannon, avoid facing inwards of a home. At best, it should be aimed out of the home. If your home has a balcony than "like a goal keeper" aim it out or clear of the home!
