June 2, 201015 yr Dear MasterI am moving into my new house. My plan is to get movers to move my existing stuff (eg piano, washing machines, clothes) to my new house on 9th June. And on 11th june, I will formally move into my new house together with my ancestors tablet and existing Buddha statue.My questions for you would be:1) is it ok that my existing stuff eg washing machine, clothes etc get move into the new house first (i.e on the 9th of jUne) followed by ancestor tablet & Buddha statue on the 11th?Some people say the god & ancestors must move into the new house first before the old funiture can move in. Is this true and is it necessary to follow this rule?pls advise and thanks.
June 2, 201015 yr Staff Here are a few things to keep in mind: 1. If the breadwinner and spouse have already stayed in the new or resale home, especially if they have: 1.1. Used the built‑in stove to cook a meal 1.2. Taken a bath there 1.3. Slept overnight in the new or resale home 2. If all three of these activities happened on the same day, then there’s really nothing more to discuss — it’s already considered “moved‑in.” 3. If you bring in a used washing machine but don’t actually use it, then in a practical sense, it’s generally fine. 4. The same idea applies to an old or existing dining table brought into the new home. As long as you don’t use it for proper dining yet, it’s technically alright. 5. For example, some people love antique furniture. If you bought a set of antique dining tables and chairs, it’s still “new” to you because you’ve never used it before. It’s no different from having a shop deliver a new sofa or fridge. 6. Again, there’s really no strict rule here. 7. And honestly, if you believe in your god, do you think your god would be so petty as to get upset just because you brought in old furniture—or because you moved in an existing altar? Would your god demand a brand‑new altar? 8. For the die‑hards, the “kiasu” (afraid to lose), or worse, the “kiasee” (afraid to die), then just make sure you don’t bring in anything old, lor… 9. There’s no absolute right or wrong in this. 10. It’s worth thinking about this: Frankly, if my god were so petty, I wouldn’t even consider bringing that god into my new home.
