Shaw Towers, Golden mile complex, People's Park complex and Katong Shopping Centre

Recommended Posts

Shaw Towers, Golden mile complex, People's Park complex and Katong Shopping Centre all these four buildings share one thing in common:  the buildings were designed in the style of "brutalist architectural style".

Majority of these buildings were completed in the early 1970's.

The characteristics are striking vertical lines and circular pot-holes + cold concrete exterior finish.

Enbloc sale for Pearl Bank Apartments has been finalised.

Sold to CapitaLand for $728 million.

There was a failed attempt in 2015 to gazette this building as it did not meet the 100% target of approval.

The apartment block was designed by local architect Tan Cheng Siong. He designed a unique horseshoe shape design with exposed exterior concrete walls know as Brutalist architecture.

What is unique with it’s design is the interlocking “cubist” walls where the walls of one’s home never really shares exactly the same wall as a neighbour. Instead, one really do not know which wall is sharing with a second or third neighbour’s walls!

The site from 1965 till today..
