Dear cecil,
My hall way is in the center of house and due to lack of light in the area. I wanted to hang the lamp with 5 lights in the center. Will it have any negative affect.( Flying star in the center are good). Thanks.

Dear Anon,

1. Some Feng Shui practitioners really believe in using lighting with five bulbs. For them, it’s a way to neutralize Sha Qi in a space. In my view, these practitioners are usually more aligned with the Shapes and Form School.
2. Another group, often those who are more mathematically inclined and rely on Flying Star Feng Shui, tends to pay special attention to the number 5, which is linked to misfortune. I feel that these practitioners have a stronger association between the number 5 and bad luck, so they may prefer to avoid using anything related to the number 5.
3. From my experience working with many cases involving the centrepoint, here’s what I’ve observed:
3.1. Whenever possible, natural light in the home’s centrepoint is best. At night, it’s still better not to overdo things. If one light is enough, there’s no need to add extra bulbs just for the sake of it.
3.2. Honestly, after seeing and analyzing many centrepoint layouts, I would recommend keeping this area clear.
3.3. At the moment, water features tend to be the most problematic element at the centrepoint.
3.4. As for fire, we don’t have fireplaces in my country or region, so I haven’t had much real-life application of this in Feng Shui. Still, based on theory, here’s something I often wonder about: the earth element belongs at the centrepoint. Under the productive cycle, fire strengthens earth, so there might be a possible connection here. This is quite different from a situation where someone has the North (Water) as a death sector. In this case, we can clearly see a link between fire and earth based on the Five Elements, so an analysis can be carried out.

What makes the earth element tricky is that, unlike other elements that strengthen in certain seasons and fade before returning again, earth remains strong between every season. So overall, the earth element can be considered strong most of the year. On top of that, earth is linked to difficult stars such as Star 5 (misfortune). This might explain why so many people face challenges related to this area.

After considering all this, it’s really up to you to decide whether you still want to use five lights at the centre. The good news is that if you don’t turn them on all the time, they’re not considered activated.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Summary

SUMMARY7a.thumb.png.a206fab62a6ff52fd735ad3fffc1e81f.png

My write-up contrasts differing Feng Shui views on using five‑bulb lighting and explains why the home’s centrepoint should generally remain clear, naturally lit, and free of problematic elements—especially water—due to the strong, year‑round influence of the earth element and its association with misfortune.

Key Takeaways

SHOUT3a.thumb.png.44adedf050fc95b5a0ce1e7d667e909e.png

• Shapes and Form practitioners may use five‑bulb lighting to counter Sha Qi, while Flying Star practitioners avoid the number 5 due to its link to misfortune.
• Natural lighting is preferable at the home’s centrepoint; artificial lighting should be minimal.
• The centrepoint should be kept clear for optimal energy flow.

• Water features at the centrepoint are especially problematic.
• Fire theoretically strengthens the earth element, which governs the centrepoint, but practical application varies.
• The earth element is strong year‑round and associated with Star 5, contributing to potential issues.
• Five lights at the centre are not considered activated unless frequently used.

Be careful of this old Feng Shui scam

Many Feng Shui Masters are essentially running Feng Shui stores in disguise. Genuine Feng Shui is not about buying lots of commercial products in its name. Always ask: “Do I really need to buy this from you?”

In fact, the biggest offenders today are Feng Shui Masters with lineages. They seem more interested in selling so-called “lifestyle” products than actually providing proper Feng Shui advice.

What Chat GPT Says about Geomancy.net

You’ve hit on a major issue that countless people have noticed but few openly discuss. The commercialization of Feng Shui has led to an abundance of practitioners acting more like salespeople than genuine consultants. Instead of focusing on the core principles—energy flow, spatial arrangement, harmony—many have shifted toward selling "Feng Shui" products, often with little real impact beyond their price tags.

Your approach to **question everything**—especially with "Must I buy from YOU?"—is wise and empowering. It cuts through the sales pitch and gets to the heart of what’s authentic and necessary.

The rise of so-called lineage masters intensifies this issue. Their supposed credibility is often used to market expensive lifestyle items, creating a business model where advice is intertwined (or even dependent on) product sales. Genuine Feng Shui, however, is about harnessing the natural flow of energy using knowledge and intent, not buying endless objects.

**A few ways to keep things real:**
- **Ask for advice first, products second.** A true practitioner can explain remedies or suggestions without immediately pushing sales.
- **Know that authentic Feng Shui relies more on placement and timing than material goods.** Your home’s orientation, layout, and how you use space matter most—objects are secondary or sometimes unnecessary.
- **Be skeptical if someone says you need to buy their exclusive items for results.** Often, similar solutions are available or even unnecessary.

In short: Your instincts are right. Genuine Feng Shui should help people—not turn anyone into a captive customer. Hold onto that critical mindset, and you’ll always be able to separate authentic guidance from the noise of commercialization.

From Day 1, we share your concern
From the very first day, we acknowledge your concerns. We will never offer you any products for sale! Numerous Feng Shui Masters operate as a Feng Shui Store in disguise. Caution: Even individuals who assert they possess a Feng Shui Lineage are just as culpable of this.

IN SUMMARY

The main takeaway from the text is a cautionary message about the potential deceit within the Feng Shui community, highlighting that some practitioners may prioritize sales over genuine guidance, regardless of their claimed expertise or lineage.
