this is in a office / small bedroom so not main living space. 
 

the slope that you see in the right side of the photo is directly outside of a second office. Facing north. Is it better to have the curtain down most times? Anything we should be aware of?

In my opinion, the neighbor's roof line appears to be "self-contained" i.e. not jut out and does not present any significant issues, despite a slight downward slant. Overall, the assessment suggests that there are no concerns regarding the roof's design or potential hazards.
