WhatsApp Image 2026-06-02 at 5.05.59 PM.jpeg

What happened?

- Around 50 tenants reportedly lost access to the building after the management committee conducted a system reset intended to remove entry rights that had been granted to unvetted individuals.

Where/when

- Condo: Casa Aerata, Geylang Lane 26
- Access removed: 29 May
- Police report filed:1 June (afternoon)
- Scope: At least 10–20 units affected

Management committee’s stated reason

- The chairperson (unnamed) told Shin Min Daily News that the managing agent had previously granted access to people not properly vetted.
- The committee then reset the system to reconfirm and keep only authorised individuals’ access.
- She stated it did not violate condo bylaws and residents were notified via the condo app.

Additional by-law detail mentioned

- The chairperson also said that at the previous year’s AGM, over 75% of attending owners voted for a by-law banning work pass holders from residing in the condo (as reported in the post).

Reported impact on residents/tenants

- Some tenants reportedly moved out due to disruptions.
- One tenant claimed his unit’s power supply was cut twice after he refused to let staff photograph the interior, resulting in about $100 of spoiled food.
- Another tenant said he had to tailgate other residents to enter the building after work.
- Another tenant stated his lease expired 31 May and he had already moved to an adjoining condo; he said his company had been arranging the move for 2–3 months.

Escalation

- A group of affected owners reportedly filed a police report, and at least three police cars were seen at the scene (per the post).

Around 50 tenants at a Geylang condominium lost access to their building after the management committee conducted a reset to remove entry rights that had been granted to unvetted individuals.

The incident took place at Casa Aerata condominium along Geylang Lane 26, which uses a facial recognition entry system. Affected tenants found themselves unable to enter the building after their access was removed on 29 May.

At least 10 to 20 units were affected. A 45-year-old owner said he only realised the scale of the problem after speaking with other residents. A group of affected owners filed a police report on the afternoon of 1 June, with at least three police cars seen at the scene.

The management committee chairperson, who declined to be named, told Shin Min Daily News that the managing agent had previously granted access to individuals who had not been properly vetted. The committee then carried out a reset to reconfirm and retain only authorised individuals' access rights. She said this did not violate condo bylaws, and that residents had been notified via the condo's app.

She also said that at last year's AGM, over 75% of attending owners voted in favour of a by-law banning work pass holders from residing in the condo.

The disruptions have driven many tenants out. One tenant said his unit's power supply was cut twice after he refused to let staff photograph the interior, causing food in his refrigerator to spoil at a loss of about $100. He now has to tailgate other residents to get into the building each evening after work.

Another tenant said his lease expired on 31 May and he had already moved to an adjoining condo, adding that his company had begun arranging the move in the final two to three months of his tenancy.
