Singapore: A 60-year-old man was found dead in his apartment at Block 101 Tampines Street 11 on Wednesday evening (June 3), after neighbours reported a persistent foul odour emanating from the unit. The deceased, described as a recluse, lived in a flat that many residents believed was completely vacant.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed they received a call assisting with a case of unnatural death at approximately 7:05 PM. Upon arrival, officers found the man motionless inside the third-floor unit. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

According to local reports, the flat showed no outward signs of occupancy. The windows were tightly shut, and the corridor outside remained completely bare, devoid of shoe racks or personal belongings.

Neighbours expressed shock over the discovery, noting that the man was rarely seen. A 51-year-old resident, identified only as Ms. Wang, noted that she had only encountered the man twice during her two years of living in the block. “Because there were no items placed outside, I always assumed the unit was empty,” she said.

Another long-time resident, 63-year-old Ms. Malavinsh, who has lived in the estate for 26 years, recalled that the deceased moved in about a decade ago. Over the span of ten years, she had only crossed paths with him three times. “I have never seen him go out to buy groceries or run errands,” she added.

Hoarded Items Delayed Entry.

The discovery was made after Ms. Malavinish initially mistook the foul odour for a dead rodent and contacted the town council. When the stench worsened and persisted, she alerted the police.

It is understood that the deceased had accumulated a significant amount of hoarded items inside the flat. The excessive clutter reportedly created a physical barricade,
