kyra
I have been told that by placing a mirror reflecting the stove would bring luck. But after reading Lillian Too's book, I am confused because she says a mirror in the kitchen is bad luck. Please advise.
Staff Cecil Lee Posted August 26, 2001 Staff Share Posted August 26, 2001 Dear Kyra, 1. In my view, when we are uncertain whether a piece of advice will be effective, it is wise to refrain from placing the object in that particular location. 2. This aligns with the commonsense principles of Feng Shui. 3. For instance, many of us have encountered the notion that having a bedroom situated above a kitchen is considered 'inauspicious.' The reasoning behind this is based on common sense. In the event of a fire in the kitchen, smoke and flames rise, which would be unfavorable, especially if a fire were to occur there. 4. Likewise, if we position a mirror, such as one made of glass or silicone, near a heat source, the glass may not withstand the heat and could shatter into fragments. 5. Even worse, if an explosion occurs in the kitchen, such as from a gas leak, the glass could break and turn into dangerous projectiles. 6. Alternatively, one might opt for stainless steel panels that possess some reflective properties similar to a mirror in this context. 7. One reason some Feng Shui practitioners advise placing a mirror facing a stove is that, if the stove area is deemed AUSPICIOUS, they believe it can reflect and double the good fortune from that area. However, this approach can be risky, as it may also reflect and amplify bad luck. 8. Sector Feng Shui, or Feng Shui based on broad generalizations, can often lack personalization for the individual. Such generalizations are akin to stating that my career sector is in the North and my romance sector is in the Southwest. 9. It is intriguing to consider the analogy of three men in an office who are drawn to an attractive colleague. 10. All three men are aware that the Southwest corresponds to the romance sector, and authors of Feng Shui literature suggest that one can enhance this sector. 11. What transpired was that Male 1 placed 12 roses on his Southwest office desk. Male 2 noticed this and attempted to surpass his competitor by placing 24 roses on his own Southwest desk. Male 3, feeling envious, sought to outdo both of them. 12. He decided to place 99 roses on his SW office desk. Warmest Regards, Cecil Quote On 8/24/2001 12:16:00 AM, Anonymous wrote: I have been told that by placing a mirror reflecting the stove would bring luck. Staff Cecil Lee Posted August 28, 2019 Staff Share Posted August 28, 2019 Question: Hi Cecil, u mentioned that that wall perpendicular to the stove should not be reflective. If tampered glass with white backing ok? Reply: Actually what I mentioned is that it is acceptable. Just don't later some smart alec comes to your home and says that it is no good to have a mirror reflecting on the stove. Where this implies that the house has two stoves. And the fear is that the male can have two wifes. If you are not bothered by this.. then no issue at all. Thus this is not a problem. Client: Haha.. Okok.. Noted.. Not mirror reflection.. Just glass reflection.. Reply: Look at it this way... better for the husband right.. LOL Reply: not about wealth loss extra... about flower of romance... Client: Haha.. Dun let my wife see this P.S. Nowadays, there are some who claim that it is inauspicious to have a piece of glass backing for a stove. Some claim that the glass piece is highly reflective. Thus symbolise the home having two stoves. Thus this implies that the male breadwinner can now afford to have two wives or a mistress and a wife. If the wife is a pretty scared person, on hearing this might feel very uncomfortable. Then the advice to the wife is to avoid installing the glass panel. Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 2, 2019 Staff Share Posted November 2, 2019 Not Feng Shui. Based on the concept of : "Consider the Reflection"... There is a school of thought that says that it is good to place a mirror at eye level on a kitchen cabinet. How this works? Accordingly, based on common sense, whenever someone wants to grab a packet of tidbits; will first have to see themselves in the mirror. And it was felt that the person would then be more conscious of their figure.. and less likely to fetch that tidbit....
Staff Cecil Lee Posted December 4, 2019 Staff Share Posted December 4, 2019 In general, where possible, avoid as much blue as possible in the kitchen. Thus even if a glass backing for the stove is used, try to avoid blue tinted glass.
