Mirror opposite to a bedroom door

Featured Replies

Dear Cecil,
A mirror in my anterroom oposites my bedroom door. The problem is that I have no other place to move the mirror in the anterroom. How can I improve this situation or should I take out the mirror at all?
Thank you.

Dear Ingrida,

In most cases, I personally feel that it is not advisable to have a mirror facing the bedroom door, for two reasons:

1. A mirror may be a double-edged sword. Without proper investigation, we do not know whether it is placed in a good, bad, or inauspicious sector. If it is an inauspicious sector, it is believed that the mirror can reflect and double the bad luck.

2. This is also based on a common belief. When we ask most Feng Shui practitioners, the consistent answer is that it is bad to have a mirror facing any part of the bed. It is believed that when a person sleeps, his spirit leaves the body.

What about a mirror facing the bedroom door? It may or may not be true, but if our spirit sees its own reflection, the idea is that it may get a shock.

In my personal opinion, it is safer, if possible, to remove the mirror, mainly because of the concern in point 1 that it may not be an auspicious sector.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil

The author advises against placing a mirror facing the bedroom door, citing Feng Shui beliefs that mirrors can amplify bad luck in inauspicious areas and may disturb the spirit during sleep, recommending removal as a precaution.

Key Takeaways

- Mirrors are seen as a “double-edged sword” in Feng Shui: they can potentially double bad luck if placed in an inauspicious sector.
- Many Feng Shui practitioners believe mirrors should not face the bed at all.
- A traditional belief holds that a sleeping person’s spirit leaves the body and could be startled by seeing its reflection in a mirror.
- Due to these concerns, the author personally recommends removing mirrors facing the bedroom door whenever possible.
