Feng Shui: How to Calculate a Lucky Number?

Featured Replies

Dear Cecil,
Can you please advise on these 2 problems:
1.
The shop I want to lease for my business has 2 numbers for its address. 28 and 30...I don't know if I am correct..but when I add these numbers up I get 4 as the final number.
2.
Also, one of the carpark entrance into the shopping complex faces directly to the left of the shop and leads underground to a parking area underneath the shop.
Thank you for your replies,
Angelica.

Unless one is of a Cantonese dialect where 4 is considered an inauspicious number; overall, in my opinion, it should be OK.

In Feng Shui for business, this may not necessarily be inauspicious. Especially if your main entrance is not directly affected.
Properly placement of signages or the frontage here may be an added bonus.
If the complex is an existing one, find out more what happened to the previous tenant.
As mentioned above, it depends on various factors and site investigations.
If you have a layout of the shop with the complex layout, feel free to post it to this forum so that I can help u look at it.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

In Feng Shui, calculating a lucky number often involves using your birth date to find your personal number. For instance, if you were born on March 14, 1990, you would add the digits of your birthdate (3 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 27), and then reduce it to a single digit (2 + 7 = 9). The number 9 would be considered your lucky number. This number can guide you in choosing auspicious dates and making decisions aligned with your personal energy.

In my view, this idea really leans more toward a form of Numerology rather than traditional Feng Shui. Also, some people use the Gua number as a starting point for figuring out their lucky numbers. In Numerology, there are many different “formulas” people follow.

You can pretty much use any method you can think of. And in Mathematics, for example, you can look at things like Odd or Even numbers, or even simple outcomes like Heads or Tails. This basically means that most formulas end up giving a binary result, labeling something as either Auspicious or Inauspicious.

"The main idea is that many numerology formulas often end up giving a fairly even mix of positive and negative results, showing a kind of duality in how they can be read. This helps highlight the natural complexity and uncertainty that comes with interpreting numerology." - Master Cecil Lee, Geomancy.net

There are Many Formulas in Numerology. Which to use?

Here are some common numerology formulas or systems that tend to produce a built‑in duality (roughly balanced “good” vs. “bad” outcomes), which is why interpretations can vary so much.

Examples of numerology formulas that show duality:

1. Odd/Even number interpretations
Some systems label odd numbers as “dynamic” or “yang” and even numbers as “stable” or “yin.” Neither category is purely good or bad, so the interpretation depends on context, often creating mixed outcomes.

2. Digit‑sum (Reduction to a single number)
Many systems reduce a number by summing its digits until a single digit remains. Each digit (1–9) is assigned traits, but all digits have both positive and negative aspects. For example, “4” can mean stability (positive) or rigidity (negative).

3. Life Path Number (Pythagorean numerology)
This formula, based on birthdate reduction, assigns each number both strengths and challenges. For example, a Life Path 5 might represent freedom and adaptability (positive) but also impulsiveness or inconsistency (negative).

4. Kua / Gua Number (Eight Mansions)
Each Gua number has “good” and “bad” directions or elements associated with it. People with the same Gua may have different results depending on interpretation, showing duality in outcomes.

5. Name Numerology (Chaldean or Pythagorean)
Letters are converted into numbers and summed. The resulting number is interpreted as having both beneficial and challenging qualities, depending on the aspect being analyzed (personality, destiny, etc.).

6. I Ching hexagram number associations
Some numerology traditions link numbers to I Ching hexagrams. Each hexagram has both auspicious and inauspicious interpretations depending on changing lines or context.

7. Lucky/Unlucky” Day or Address Calculations
Many methods reduce dates or addresses to a single digit and then map them to auspicious or inauspicious categories. Because the distribution of digits is uniform, “good vs. bad” often ends up balanced.

However, I shall not go deeper into any specific system or show how a single number can produce both positive and negative interpretations depending on the formula.

"No single method can really be considered better than the rest, and this shows how our own biases can influence how we judge different approaches. However, in the field of Metaphysics, many people tend to lean toward methods such as the I Ching hexagram or the Kua or Gua numbering systems or Lucky or unlucky days. This also reminds us that looking at things from multiple angles is important when evaluating any method." Master Cecil Lee, Geomancy.net

Why is Numerology so popular?

panicbutton.thumb.png.b4bcda66cab5ed700785f50d9a58502c.png

"Numerology’s appeal often comes from the way it gives people a sense of hope and comfort, much like the excitement of playing the lottery. It offers a reassuring way to look at life. This interest really reflects a deeper human need for meaning and reassurance in a world that can feel uncertain." - Master Cecil Lee, Geomancy.net

It's amazing how Feng Shui uses birthdates to find personal lucky numbers. This method connects your life energy to a specific number. Help guide decisions and choose an auspicious day and provide a more harmonious and balanced perspective on life...

For me this works, 3 out of 10 times it worked.

Hi, In Feng Shui, a lucky number is often calculated using your birth date. By adding all the digits of your date of birth and reducing the total to a single digit, you get your personal lucky number. This number is believed to reflect your energy and can help in choosing auspicious dates and making positive life decisions.
