Dear Yang Ming,

1. Typically, in a small island such as Singapore, one finds oneself surrounded by the ocean on all sides.

2. Depending on your geographical position, the manner in which the sun warms the land mass (which becomes hotter) compared to the sea, along with variations in high and low pressure, can lead to air moving from the land to the sea and vice versa.

3. Consequently, air-catchment may enter from either side of the residence.

4. Nevertheless, if a series of windows or the main entrance is closed, air cannot flow inward from one side of the window to the opposite side.

5. If air consistently enters from only one section of the house, particularly in a newly constructed home, it may suggest that the air is being drawn in, for instance, from the building's profile into that specific area.

6. In fact, it would be preferable if the situation were reversed, allowing air to enter from either the main entrance or the windows at the front. This is illustrated in the attached diagram.

7. Overall, the primary concern arises when an excessive number of garments are hung to dry or items such as mops or cleaning tools are placed at the service balcony, especially since air flows from this area into the home.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
