Dear Laurelle, I agree that there can be `contradictions' in the application of Feng Shui. Should we place plants in the home? Even if one's element is for example an Earth person. We should also look at the external environment i.e. `threats'. `Threats' is an important component in how we apply Feng Shui. For example, if there is a threat to the main entrance... we try to neutralise it by using an element that destroys it. In the home, we should try to `cure' or neutralise `threats' or imbalances in the various sectors. This can be independent of our personal element. For example, if a cure required `wood' element or plants, we can still introduce it into the home. Even …

Dear BND, Most of the time, as an individual we want our individual apratment accessed. In such a situation, the front door is the door of your individual unit. (NOT the main entrance of the building). Usually, when the front door of the main building is being accessed, this is often done by a Feng Shui practitioner for the building owner. Warmest Regards, Cecil

When trying to apply feng sui to an apartment/condo, is the front door, the front door of the individual unit, or the front door of the entire unit. Also, I am on the 12th floor of a 21 story building. Is there a significance?

Dear Brenda, I hope you understand that the purpose of this forum is: 1. To clarify doubts or provide an opinion on the various FS practises. 2. To act as a catalyst 3. To help analyse / explain and interpret results. You may if you like to use the Free report under www.geomancy-online.com to generate the Flying Star report. I would not be able to help everyone to do all the mundane things like calculating out where users simply furnish e.g. a Date of birth, and in the next log in, expect all the homework done for them. The purpose of this forum is rather to try to provide quality `answers' if possible using quality time. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Sylvia, 1. It is good to understand the rationale of the East / West group (gua) persons. 2. There are many (many) people in the world where both partners may not be from the same group. And it is very common to find a situation such as yours. 3. In Feng Shui, it is best to use this East/West group or commonly known as Eight House theory to: 3.1 Find out how suitable a house is to the breadwinner. 3.2 Locations where one spent time at. Such as the bedroom. 3.3 Sit facing a good direction ie. placement of table or for studying. 4. Where it comes to element interpretation such as one's house is South therefore, one has a Fire element should be taken `lightly' as it is …

Dear Brenda, 1. In my opinion, Feng Shui based on `sectors' is too general and I feel that it is an unreliable form. 2. The question I often ask myself is: How is it that each and everyone's SW is the marriage and romance corner? It is not possible especially if everyone tries to `enhance the sector. 3. I often quote the situation where there is say only 1 lady and three men have made much effort to enhance their SW. For example, one man placed 1 rose at the SW. While the second male placed 12 roses at SW. The third person places 100 roses at SW. 4. Does it mean that the one that enhances that sector the `most' eventually "gets" the lady? What if they all wait and as a r…

Dear Brenda, The Flying Star School of Feng Shui (Compass School) Feng Shui uses numerology such as #1 to #9. #2 is associated with Sickness #5 is associated with Misfortune Both #2 and #5 represents the EARTH element. And yes, since both are Earth elements, #2 and #5 is associated with Yellow colour (or Earth element). Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Brenda, Usually, the specific sector is looked at before, providing comments i.e. particularly using Flying Star to check on the elements at that sector with the hope that it is balanced. Paying `homage' to a sector i.e. North = career may not be the right thing to do. However, in my opinion, you can at best take it as interior decor for your home i.e. feel nice with the 3 plants at that area? Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Julia, Frankly, there is not much one can enhance in a small apartment. Where possible, try to make it as `cosy' as possible depending on the one's needs. Needs depend on:- Whether the apartment is used as a `haven' to return to after busy work schedule or used partially for sleep and study. The major principle of Yin and Yang can be applied in the room. Such as making the room more Yin (for good night rest) or semi-yin and yang (for study/relaxation or sleep). Please see below:- Realistically speaking, not much one can do here. It is good to close the bathroom door when not in use. If there is the luxury of a side table; one can place a lamp on it to serve a…

Dear Joann, 1. You may not aware that part of the netiquette is not to use all CAPITAL letters. This is like `Shouting'. 2. To use the SEARCH feature; do not type in a whole string of words such as " WHICH WAY SHOULD MY FRONT DOOR FACE ". For basic or advanced Search, do not type in a whole sentence. But rather type specific key words. 3. To find out the direction your front door should face, please look thru some of the following references first:- http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm and how to use the Eight House theory:- http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house1.htm or use the Free online tools at:- http://www.geomancy-online.com 4. When you mentioned `What direction …

Dear Brenda, Generally, it should not pose any problems with the light yellow comforter. (Especially if or there are no #5 or #2 in the sector). Perhaps, you can monitor the situation i.e. for any health related problems or sickness. (Within 1 month of using it) If there is, none of the above, it is fine. If there is, try to avoid using it or place 6 i-ching coins tied with red string and hang it above the bed. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Miss Quiss, 1. Not all situations are the same as it also depends on the layout of the house especially since you mentioned that there is an `east' wall immediately backing the fish tank. 2. If you have placed the fish tank for quite some time i.e. more than 3 months without any effect i.e. particularly sickness for the spouse; and/or finance keepings going out. If one does not face difficulties as mentioned under Para 2, this is fine. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Brenda, Frankly, my new house is also peach (or rather cream coloured). I find it quite a chore to have it repainted to my favourite colour - netural white. So long as these colours are bright - creating more a yang (bright) look, it is still acceptable. As to whether to place 6 coins, in my opinion, there is no harm to do so. On the other hand, I would rather, check to see if any family members have frequent bouts of sickness. If so, it would be better to place the 6 coins in the same room for family members that frequently get ill. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Brenda, Frankly, sometimes it is difficult to change the interior of the house especially the plumbing i.e. relocation of say the kitchen sink. We may have to live with such a situation. I believe that there is nothing more, in Feng Shui that we can do here. Other than, shift it away and make clear space. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Karen, 1. Red tile roof or clay coloured roof tile is a common preferred choice. 2. For painting the entire house, it is always best to paint the walls white or alternatively pastel shades of any other colour be it beige or cream - which are acceptable. 3. This is because, other than white or off-white; cream or beige or shades of it is often the choice of colour of architects and interior designers. So long as the colour(s) are light or pastel shades (making the wall bright) this should be acceptable. Here, the idea is (other than the bedroom) is to make the house `bright' rather than dark. 4. Another reason is that, if there is an imbalance at a particular sector,…

Dear Josephine, Perhaps, it is too early to say whether for sure there are any problems since you only slept one night away from your bedroom. It is good to try further as there may also be other unrelated reasons... Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Wasis, For info, there may be deviations in interpretation by many practitioners on this issue: 1. Fire element? Some FS practitioners may view it as a Fire element: 1.1. Some consider, electricity i.e. using the PC (chiefly thru electricity or circuit boards i.e. memory, cpu and hardware as Fire element. Where fire = electricity. 1.2 If the business is related to software production, and thru the end result the `package': A marketing or sales personnel, who markets the product can be considered under the Fire element. Or hopefully under the Fire element (with the hope) that the product can be successful i.e. `fiery' sales or preference for activity. 2. Water element…

Dear Veraa, 1. In my opinion, it is not adviseable to place any objects (if possible) at the centre-point area of the home especially if it is a fish tank. 2. In your case, it would not be auspicious to see three shadows of knives as (in my opinion) it represents Sha Qi. 3. As for the effect of the three containers, if it is already placed there, you should monitor the situation closely especially for the next month to three months (as the effect would be felt if any during this time). Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Brenda, In my opinion, flower prints including leaves are acceptable on comforters and sheets. In fact, quite alot of bed sheets/spreads do use the flower/leaf theme. Unlike: 1. Actual plants where; when it grows, a more create yang environment. 2. Actual water, creates too yin i.e. fish tank in the bedroom or a picture of a rushing water-fall or `choppy' seas / waterfall. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, In my opinion, there are no perfect `EXCELLENT' house. If one finds that overall the house is comfortable and nice, go ahead and purchase it especially if the external shapes and form is good. If all family members feel nice with the house, chances are; it would be good/acceptable. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Tom, 1. From what I understand, rubber trees was originally imported into Singapore botanic gardens. 2. Later on, because of the significance of latex, rubber trees were grown particularly in West Malaysia where the sap is `milked' and carefully made into latex sheets. These sheets are very smelly. 3. When I was young, I remembered my grandparent (mother's side) own a rubber plantation and I particularly liked `playing' with the seeds.. where, one rubs it on a surface e.g. tile and it heats up and feels warm to the touch. 4. Rubber trees can grow particularly tall and I believe what you mentioned is only a plant. If it is planted in a pot, the tree would not grow lar…

Dear Diane, 1.In my opinion, kei loons and especially a pair of lions are usually decorative items. 2. In many parts of China, one can see a huge pair of lions outside the entrances of large buildings. 3. In my opinion, there is nothing really magical in them other than they give an imposing `confidence' to the building(s). 4. In Singapore, a pair of lions (large ones) are very popular also. For example, one can see a pair of lion statues outside the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Singapore. At the main entrance of Ngee Ann City (mega) city. Many temples also have the lion statues "standing guard". 5. In my opinion, kei loons are more commonly placed in homes or above the p…

Dear Anon, Another area, you can look at or minimise miscarriages is to check whether there is a #5 (misfortune) especially in your bedroom. You can generate the free flying star report and check if #5 is in the bedroom where you are staying in. (In a more advanced level the 81 combinations of the two stars may give a clue as to the type of problems which may be associated with miscarriage) If so, #5 or #2 (sickness) should be appropriately neutralised. Warmest Regards, Cecil
