  1. Hello. In many western homes, the stove top and the oven are separate. Must both be facing in a favorable direction according to the house trigram? Thank you for your consideration of this question. Best wishes, Oliv
  2. Hello. I've read that the front of a stove where the oven door is located should face a favorable direction based on the trigram of a house and should sit in an unfavorable direction. For a Xun house (315 degrees facing NW), there doesn't seem to be any really good directions. F1 = N, F2 = E, F3 = S, F4 = SE, H1 = NW, H2 = W, H3 = SW, H4 = NE. The only ways the stove can be placed (based on the particular floor plan for this Xun house) is sitting NE (H4) facing SW (H3); sitting SW(H3)facing NE (H4); siting NW (H1) facing SE(F4). Which is the most favorable choice? Also, is there any objection to placing a stove in acenter island in a kitchen? Thank you for any help. Oliv
  3. Thank you for replying. You are very generous with your information. I misspoke in my original post....I wrote that the back of the house would look to the view in the NE. That should be NW. Do you have graduates from your courses who live in the US who I could contact to have them look at the site? I live in the NW portion of North Carolina. OR could information such as a house layout, topography map, site map and other peritinent information be supplied to you for further evaluation? From what I know from my studies and from what you have mentioned, I am 98% sure that this site and house plan are good for us, but since we hope this is the last home we live in (for many more years ), I'd like to be totally sure. Best Wishes, Oliv (Tigger's Mom)
  4. Thank you for replying. Your answer satisifed me and has given me more understanding. It also raised another question in my mind. You mentioned that activity and sunlight can play a part in determining sitting and facing. I can think of an example where the activity and sunlight were actually on one of the sides of the house.....front door (and house) are facing West and there is a road sloping from the right side of the house to the left if you are looking at thefront door. But as you approach the house from the upper portion of the road, you see the Southwest/South/Southeast side BEFORE you see the front of the house. It is the sunny side; the kitchen, dining and office are located on that side where there is much activity; and there is a side door leading into the kitchen from the driveway where cars are parked. Would the Southwest/South/Southeast sunny side with most activity be the "mouth" of the house even though it is not what would be considered the "front" of the house? If there had not been a side door there, would the SW/S/SE side be or not be the "mouth" of the house? Thank you. O. Sullivan
  5. Hi. Generally speaking, if a piece of land upon which a house sits slopes from the front of the house to the back of the house enough that the house has a basement that is only visable from the back, would you say that it is probable that the front of the house is the facing or sitting side? I realise that there may be exceptions and many other factors to consider, but if you would answer this question from merely a general perspective, I would be most appreciative. Thank you. O. Sullivan
  6. Hi. I'm new to this forum but not new to Traditional Chinese Feng Shui, however I'd call myself a beginner. I have a basic question that I think I know the answer to, but would really like a second opinion. I'm looking at buying a lot to build a house on. My husband and I both have Kan birthdays. Since this house would be built in the current 8 period, I believe the best direction for the house to face is the NW between 307.5 and 322.5 degrees....Xun. (Please correct me if I am wrong on this point.) The lot we are currently looking at is located in what, years ago, was open grazing land in a mountainous area. The lotslopes moderately steeply from the road at the upper side which is in the SE. About half way down the slope there are a grove of trees where the land is still sloping but not quite as much, then (still sloping downward) it opens, or could open if a few trees were cut or topped, to a long range mountain and valley view. Absolutely gorgeous! If the house is located closer to the upper SE part of the lot with the front of the house and the front door looking toward the SE and the back of the house looking toward the NE, which side would be considered FACING? I am inclined to say that because the land slopes fairly steeply that the side of the house looking to the NW view side would be Facing and the upper side looking to the SE where the front door would be located is actually Sitting. Please, a second opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tigger's Mom
