Auspicious date for house moving

Hi Mr Cecil,
For house moving , if we need to take a few days to move all the things into the new house, and if we do not have many choices of auspicious date to choose from ( as the most auspicious date and the next one can be 2 weeks apart) In this case, should we choose the auspicious day to be the day we first move in the first box or the day that we move in the most important things like altar etc or the day that the whole family shift and stay there?

These are some of the considerations:

1. From the perspective of traditional symbolism, the actual “move-in” date is technically the first day you sleep overnight in the new home or apartment.

2. Also, under symbolic practice, placing a set of one’s night clothes on the bed can represent a move-in. For example, in a husband-and-wife situation, each person places a set of nightwear on the bed overnight. This symbolises a “move-in”.

3. Please note that auspicious dates are considered nice-to-have and not a must-have.

4. As long as the chosen day is not very inauspicious or clearly inauspicious, other types of days—such as an average day or a day with mixed blessings—are generally considered acceptable.

5. Simply bringing items or belongings into a home usually does not count as a move-in. For instance, it is very common to order and deliver a fridge, sofa set, or dining set much earlier.

6. Moving in the god is also often not regarded as the actual move-in, because you are only moving in the god.

6.1. In addition, it is better not to move in the god too early. For example, if you move in the god on 10 November,

6.2. but only move in yourself on 11 December, it is considered disrespectful to leave the god alone at the new home. In such a case, you may need to visit the new home on alternate days to light joss sticks, or at least go weekly to change the offerings.

7. A proper move-in is when, on the move-in day, you use the kitchen stove to boil water and/or cook, usually take a bath at the new home, and also sleep there overnight—or follow the symbolic move described in Paragraph 2 above.

8. Therefore, if you only buy outside food and eat it in the new home, this is also not counted as a “move-in”.
