Staff Cecil Lee Posted May 29, 2013 Staff Share Posted May 29, 2013 Common sense and concealed gas pipes in the kitchen Many executive condominiums and other condos are connected to a piped gas supply. For cosmetic reasons, some developments have gas pipes hidden within the plastered walls. There was an incident where a contractor drilled into a wall while installing kitchen cabinets, which caused a gas leak throughout the entire apartment. This important warning was found on the notice board at Park Green @ Rivervale Link. Be cautious of concealed gas pipes during renovation: 1. Ensure concealed gas pipes are not damaged. 2. Identify the location of concealed gas pipes using your home's gas pipe layout plan or a metal detector. 3. Any work on gas pipes should be performed by a licensed gas service worker. 4. Ask City Gas to temporarily cut off the gas supply during your renovations. 5. Damaging a gas pipe can cause a dangerous gas leak.
