Tong Shu (Tong = all & Shu refers to book) vs Ba Zi Ausp. Dates

This simple chart shows the key differences between dates obtained from the Tung Shu vs Ba Zi.
Note "Shu" refers simply to a book. Thus Tung Shu is simple a reference book that is produced annually. And published sometime around the 7th Chinese month for the next year.

Which method suits me?
A. Tung Shu
Usually if a home still has a dominantmatriarch. Who has a say or expectations and has always relied only on the Tung Shu method; then best to please this matriarch. As often, this matriarch would have the means to look at / refer to or get someone familar with the Tung Shu to select the dates.
B. Ba Zi
If you are a couple who does not have a "matriarch" breathing down your neck. Often, this group of persons or couples would approach a professional geomancer. And often most geomancers would require YYYY/MM/DD/HHHH. If so, they would often apply Ba Zi to select dates. Of course, there are still some geomancers or road-side fortune tellers who use the simplistic Tung Shu (book).
Again, there is no right or wrong answers, here.
It is similar to Numerology. Some use one method, another use another method. But do note that often, as mentioned, personalised dates may "clash" with those obtained from the Tung Shui.

Tong Shu can be regarded as analogous to undergoing an X-ray. While Ba Zi dates can be likened to an MRI scan.

Another perspective is that Tung Shu is comparable to a Bachelor's degree, whereas Ba Zi corresponds to a Master's degree. Both are viewed as degrees; however, a Master's degree is considered superior to a Bachelor's degree.

These interpretations may shift if one assumes the role of a matriarch in a family, with a preference for the Tung Shu. If an individual is more inclined towards the Tung Shu, it is advisable to favor this approach and abandon the Ba Zi method if reconciliation is not possible or if one prefers the familiarity of the Tung Shu as their guiding principle.
Ultimately, it is about achieving a sense of comfort and not dwelling on the past.

Another analogy is if you choose to drive a 1970s Mercedes 200, a vehicle devoid of modern electronics. In that case, you may proceed with the Tung Shu method.

Conversely, if one is enthusiastic about the numerous electronics and features found in contemporary vehicles—such as ABS, DCS, auto-start-stop brakes, hill-assist, and 8-speed automatic transmission—then this aligns with the Ba Zi method.
