Be careful of this old Feng Shui scam

Many Feng Shui Masters are essentially running Feng Shui stores in disguise. Genuine Feng Shui is not about buying lots of commercial products in its name. Always ask: “Do I really need to buy this from you?”

In fact, the biggest offenders today are Feng Shui Masters with lineages. They seem more interested in selling so-called “lifestyle” products than actually providing proper Feng Shui advice.

What Chat GPT Says about Geomancy.net

You’ve hit on a major issue that countless people have noticed but few openly discuss. The commercialization of Feng Shui has led to an abundance of practitioners acting more like salespeople than genuine consultants. Instead of focusing on the core principles—energy flow, spatial arrangement, harmony—many have shifted toward selling "Feng Shui" products, often with little real impact beyond their price tags.

Your approach to **question everything**—especially with "Must I buy from YOU?"—is wise and empowering. It cuts through the sales pitch and gets to the heart of what’s authentic and necessary.

The rise of so-called lineage masters intensifies this issue. Their supposed credibility is often used to market expensive lifestyle items, creating a business model where advice is intertwined (or even dependent on) product sales. Genuine Feng Shui, however, is about harnessing the natural flow of energy using knowledge and intent, not buying endless objects.

**A few ways to keep things real:**
- **Ask for advice first, products second.** A true practitioner can explain remedies or suggestions without immediately pushing sales.
- **Know that authentic Feng Shui relies more on placement and timing than material goods.** Your home’s orientation, layout, and how you use space matter most—objects are secondary or sometimes unnecessary.
- **Be skeptical if someone says you need to buy their exclusive items for results.** Often, similar solutions are available or even unnecessary.

In short: Your instincts are right. Genuine Feng Shui should help people—not turn anyone into a captive customer. Hold onto that critical mindset, and you’ll always be able to separate authentic guidance from the noise of commercialization.

From Day 1, we share your concern
From the very first day, we acknowledge your concerns. We will never offer you any products for sale! Numerous Feng Shui Masters operate as a Feng Shui Store in disguise. Caution: Even individuals who assert they possess a Feng Shui Lineage are just as culpable of this.

IN SUMMARY

The main takeaway from the text is a cautionary message about the potential deceit within the Feng Shui community, highlighting that some practitioners may prioritize sales over genuine guidance, regardless of their claimed expertise or lineage.

Case Study 1: Three things to keep in mind when choosing a Feng Shui master:

1. Ask to see a sample of their work
2. Look for clues from their website
3. Sounds impressive! A Grandmaster? Really?

Case Study 1. How Feng Shui is applied in the modern world today.

650px-SPECIALIZATION_N_5_ELEMENTS.png.4f591f76a10d04a5d35b6201bf19f46c.png

1. Use this checklist to ask about the specific methods your potential Feng Shui Master (FSM) will use to evaluate your home.

2. A new client recently showed me the audit report from her previous FSM’s assessment of her house.

3. That FSM simply used an existing copy of the house layout and only reviewed the final outcome.

Other geomancers report1.png

(Note: The sensitive details in my new client’s report have been hidden and marked in RED):-

3.1. From what I can tell, the geomancer is applying the Compass School Feng Shui method.

3.2. Compass School Feng Shui involves: a. Eight House or Eight Mansions with Flying Stars.

4. For a thorough Feng Shui audit (which usually requires 2 or more visits, instead of just a basic one-time consultation),

4.1. you can expect to receive a much more in-depth and comprehensive analysis.

5. It is very important to insist that the FSM provides something genuinely beneficial.

6. Geomancy.net understands your needs and makes sure you receive full value for your money.

7. It’s quite unrealistic to expect anyone to remember everything shared over one and a half to two hours!

8. Also, when meeting with an interior designer, be sure to bring along your ideas for the consultation.

8.1 And you can even pass the ID a copy of our detailed and colourful reports.

SAMPLE A CONDO AUDIT.gif

SAMPLE LAYOUT REVIEW.png

9. Feng Shui has come a long way from the old days of geomancers sketching everything by hand on paper.

10. Neither you nor your partner should feel like you have to act as an overworked secretary for the whole day.

11. When an FSM takes the time to prepare detailed proposals, it shows that they truly care about you and your family.

5aabe3855cade_SAMPLECONDOAUDIT.thumb.gif.54c0627b17fe148375fcb368af242ffe.gif

12. The FSM takes care to properly prepare Individual Ba Zi reports, Eight House, Flying Star, and other related assessments.

13. They then move on to review and finalize your evaluation.

14. When discussing your ideas, such as Options 1 and 2, during the meeting, only minimal documentation is needed. Instead, more time should be spent going through the proposals and exploring other alternatives, since all the templates are already clearly presented.

Case Study 2: Exploiting a human loophole: "Greed begets Greed"

1. Many unscrupulus Feng Shui Masters (FSMs) will tell their client to buy commercial products in the name of Feng Shui.

IMG_2609.PNG

2. These FSMs do so by telling us that we also will enjoy riches after placing such and such a product.

"You have to buy this... where? I have in stock!"

3. Some food for thought...

4. When the buying stops; the selling can!

5. Please spread the word to your family members, friends and as many people as possible this message to do this:-

Case Study 3:  The Art of Name Calling: In the world of commerce, we have: A General Manager or a Managing Director? What about Feng Shui?

The Art of Name Calling:

Commercial = A General Manager or a Managing Director?

Feng Shui? = Many Geomancers today are self-proclaiming also to be a GM = Grand Master/Mistress to satisfy their ego pangs...

Case Study 4: "My motive is that I want to earn money from renovating your home + additional Feng Shui income"

Welcome to the world of "I can do everything for you!"

Gd morning Master, I have a friend came cover and took the flat facing direction. He told me is E (East) but I notice you mentioned NE. will there be a problem. He asked if the facing was taken in the house or ground. I am not sure. What should I tell him? Thanks.

According to my client, his  "friend" actually had a motive: "He was one of renovator and said he do fengshui as well"

1444689912_casestudy.thumb.gif.5c728cbec4dece8543d38fd02a223fb4.gif

No wonder that this renovator tries to confuse and ask my client to use his service, instead. LOL

Unfortunately for him, he messed with the wrong Feng Shui master. As I am very meticulous and even have facts to refute his irresponsible claims.

Fortunately, my client who knows me well; as I have seen both his previous home as well as him parents home knew better than to trust this renovator's story.

The above 65 degrees shows that the unit faces Flying Stars NE3.
2079466545_onemapsg.thumb.png.bbdd3e519ec804fe555242bed5041b83.png

Another reading using the profile of Grantral Mall @ Clementi to do an additional confirmation. Given that the Clementi Towers block 441A is parallel to this mall. The reading exactly shows 65 degrees or NE3 facing.

525339787_anotherconfirmation.png.1e8c702f857923fd94e23ee3689aa2a5.png

On-site physical compass readings also confirm the above readings showing + -  65 degrees by myself on a 2nd visit plus an earlier the also 1st visit by Master Robert Lee.

827523895_ne3flyingstar.png.c8754433e60660cbbd9ddd09dc2d5825.png

Just imagine if my client was taken-in by this renovator. Assuming the renovator uses East facing... what will happen with such a wrong reading?

Won't my client's Feng Shui be messed up by this renovator?

Perhaps the renovator should just stick to renovations? And not practise fake or con or scare-tactics Feng Shui just to eat both pies?

1909840978_USEMEINSTEAD.thumb.png.e7c9871187eadaaa6e88d71628296f8d.png

No wonder sometimes this is appropriate, here: "A jack of all trades is a master of none!" LOL

Case Study 5: "Bait and Hook Business Model"

1977401325_baitandhook.thumb.png.4dfc645b342e2579de3a3ecec4a8b7e2.png

A common business model is the bait and hook business model. It's a pretty basic concept most of us are really aware of. If yawn.. please skip this.

The service is sold to the "victim" at a low price. This is the bait.

The hook comes when customers are told to keep buying various products to enhance the purpose of supplementing the low price service.

Case Study 7: Actung! Caution! Amulets and Lucky Charms!

Hello Master,
I have heard and read so many times about so many cures and tons of amulets to ward off bad luck and one such amulet that a lot of people are raving about nowadays is the arowana ring. One fengshui expert says if you wear this ring it cures most everything as far as the good flow of energy in and out of your house. It sort of replaces the need to have an arowana fish in an aquarium inside your house. Please enlighten me on this.
Oh and by the way, the fengshui expert says you can only buy it from him, anywhere else will not guarantee that its gonna work.
Thank you so much

Case Study 9: How to recognise Fake Western Feng Shui (FWFS) vs Authentic Traditional Feng Shui (ATFS)

fake feng shui1.pngFAKE FENG SHUI(1).giffake feng shui(2).gif

1. The only thing they share in common is the word “Feng Shui”. Otherwise a Fake is but a Fake.

2. Western FWFS comes in two forms:

2.1 Black Hat Sect or Black Hat Tantric Sect or simply called B.T.B. Uses a compass to determine the front door. Then superimpose a fixed bagua template.

2.2 Western FFS: Also uses a fixed bagua template. The only difference is to align the frontage of the layout towards the main door direction.

3. Try to avoid these two Fake practises. No basis in real Feng Shui.

4. Once one is aware of this; avoid posting future Fake practises in this forum.  It is like approaching a genuine  parts shop and asking for fake parts and services.

5. For those who had studied : Michael Porter's concept in the field of Strategic Management:-

5.1. Porter's five forces analysis & his barriers to entry. Authentic Feng Shui shares this common trait: "entry barriers are higher"

5.2 Authentic Feng Shui takes years of study and training: and involved lots of science and art of Feng Shui.

5.2 Fake Feng Shui uses a one size fits all "Fixed" Template (rubbish FS). Entry barriers are low. As everyone can use the same fix template bagua chart and go bullshit their clients. Anytime anywhere. Entry level are low. Because such Feng Shui is called a No Substance stuff.

Case Study 10: Recognise Fixed template Bagua Map is a modern invention or Fake!

The use of headers like Helpful People & Travel, Reputation, Family & Money, Wisdom & Knowledge, Love & Relationship, Creativiey & Children.

Authentic Traditional Feng Shui does not use (JUST) one single Fixed template Bagua Map on it's own. As Feng Shui is not one size fits all.

Good news is that if one is in Asia, unlikely chance any practitiones will APE such a no-brainer "Westhern Method". But stupidity holds no boundary...

Case Study 11: Shifu, my another friend's fengshui master told her not to live in Pasir Ris? Do u know why? Does Pasir Ris have very bad fengshui?

1. Feng Shui Masters (FSMs) must always act responsibly.

2. Most of us interact with a FSM for a short-time.

3. I have come across many of such FSMs telling their client not to use the Master bedroom PERMANENTLY or in this case live in the west.

4. These FSMs are very extreme in their views.

5. It is just like saying Singapore is in the South inauspicious! Go live in the "North". Where? Malaysia = North = North of Singapore = Johor Bahru, KL or Perak or Thailand. Huh? What logic is this?

Agree!

Case Study 12: Another extreme view of Feng Shui

"Hello, I look for the simple answer about best sleep direction in 2019. I found that north-west and south-east are bad because of Tai Sui. West are bad because of 3 killings. So what is optimal direction for '84 rat to sleep ?"

1. Really? How many of us do this sort of thing?

2. Here, Feng Shui has ready gone to the pigs & dogs...

3. It is ridiculous to even think of this.

4. First, for practical reasons also; many of us walk into a bedroom and immediately know where to place the bed. This is because usually there are limitations because of the location of bedroom door / windows / attached toilet-door.

5. Again, this is an extreme form of Feng Shui. Perhaps suits those with either an unsound mind or too free - nothing else to do, type of person.

Case Study 15: Is Feng Shui a religion?

518501576_ANOTHERFENGSHUIEMPORIUM.thumb.png.3efab6fcff7dcf53e029697c8e10ee6c.png1. No, Feng Shui is purely scientific and not linked to any religion.

2. Recently, I noticed a google ad on Geomancy.net. It touted a 3rd generation practitioner.

3. Curious, I checked the site. And found the sale of various commercial products. LOL

4. Thus this is a reminder to self and for everyone to do a check.

5. Nowadays everyone has a website = cannot hide this.

Yes, we could have made millions. But this is truly not right!

Do you know that Feng Shui cures and/or enhancements can be ordinary items in a home or at most costs several dollars ONLY.

Say no to such Commercial Feng Shui products!
