mirrors in the kitchen

Dear Kyra,
1. In my opinion, usually if we are not too sure if an advise will or will not work; it would be prudent to avoid placing the object in the location.
2. Under the commonsense approach to Feng Shui.
3. For example, some of us have read that it would be `inauspicious' to have a bedroom above a kitchen. The rationale here is commonsense. In the even that there is a fire outbreak in the kitchen; smoke and fire travels upwards and it would not be favourable thus (in the event that there) may be a fire in the kitchen.
4. Similarly, if we were to place a mirror e.g. made of glass/silicone close to heat, the glass may not take the heat and could break and broken into pieces.
5. Worse, if there is an explosion in the kitchen e.g. gas leaks etc... glass in the kitchen can shatter and become flying missles.
6. Of-course, one may instead use stainless steel panels that could have `some' reflective qualities of a mirror here.
7. One rationale for some FS practitioners giving advise to placing a mirror facing a stove is that; for them; IF the stove area is considered AUSPICIOUS; some FS practitioners may consider it good as one can BOUNCE BACK TWICE THE GOOD LUCK from such mirrors.
However, this can be a two-edged sword and could invariably bounce back twice the BAD luck.
8. Sector Feng Shui or Feng Shui based on general statements can be quite general as it has not being personalised for an individual. Such statements are like telling everyone that my career sector is at the North. My romance sector is at SW.
9. It is interesting to note the analogy; where there are three guys in an office. They are attracted to this attractive colleague.
10. All three males have read that South-West = the romance sector. And Feng Shui book authors suggest that one CAN enhance your Romance sector.
11. What happen was that person Male 1 placed 12 roses on his SW office table. Male 2, saw that and try to outdo his rival by placing 24 roses on his SW office table. Male 3, became jealous and wanted to outdo all three.
12. He placed 99 roses at the SW of not only his office table but at his home.
It could be that as three of them became complacent; that is instead of geniuinely pursuing this lady colleage, they simply only depend on such enhancements.
13. Instead, a prince charming from out of the blue or someone she may have met in say a Disco, was able to woo her.
14. The biggest person to gain is the florist shop and none of the 3 males had got the girl!
15. This is thus the fallacy of `sector' Feng Shui where it is too general to be said to be applicable to everyone.
16. If everyone also assumes that North = Career, does it mean that everyone, enhance their North sector? What if 100,000 people, 1 million enhance this sector? Statistically, it is not possible that all 100,000 people or 1 million people get promoted at the same time. In the real world, there is no such thing as everyone getting promotion in the same office.
17. Many firms adopt a bell curve and `force' their managers to appraise staff from excellent, good, average etc... If one gives every staff high ratings; he/she could then be viewed as being too lenient in their rating and their rating could perhaps being moderated by their higher superiors.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Please advise.

Question: Hi Cecil, u mentioned that that wall perpendicular to the stove should not be reflective. If tampered glass with white backing ok?

Reply: Actually what I mentioned is that it is acceptable. Just don't later some smart alec comes to your home and says that it is no good to have a mirror reflecting on the stove.

Where this implies that the house has two stoves. And the fear is that the male can have two wifes.

If you are not bothered by this.. then no issue at all. Thus this is not a problem.

Client: Haha.. Okok.. Noted..  Not mirror reflection.. Just glass reflection..

Reply: Look at it this way... better for the husband right.. LOL

Reply: not about wealth loss extra... about flower of romance...

Client: Haha.. Dun let my wife see this

P.S. Nowadays, there are some who claim that it is inauspicious to have a piece of glass backing for a stove.

Some claim that the glass piece is highly reflective. Thus symbolise the home having two stoves. Thus this implies that the male breadwinner can now afford to have two wives or a mistress and a wife.

If the wife is a pretty scared person, on hearing this might feel very uncomfortable. Then the advice to the wife is to avoid installing the glass panel.

Not Feng Shui. Based on the concept of : "Consider the Reflection"...

There is a school of thought that says that it is good to place a mirror at eye level on a kitchen cabinet.

How this works?

Accordingly, based on common sense, whenever someone wants to grab a packet of tidbits; will first have to see themselves in the mirror.

And it was felt that the person would then be more conscious of their figure.. and less likely to fetch that tidbit....
