Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 18, 2010 Staff Share Posted November 18, 2010 Dear Anon & Emily, 1. Certainly, this is one of the most debated topics in Feng Shui. 2. To help address this issue, I want to cover several key points so that by the end, everyone has a clearer understanding. 3. It’s important to understand concepts such as: 3.1 Facing and sitting directions 3.2 The "Mouth of the House" 4. These two concepts are closely related. 5. In most cases, the main entrance of a landed property is considered the "mouth of the house" because it faces the frontage. This is usually the door we first see and enter when approaching the home from the road. 6. However, some landed properties have their main entrance located on the side of the house. For example, after entering the property, the main door may be situated on the side. If a row of houses shares this same side entrance, or if the main door directly faces another property nearby, it's better not to use this door as the main entrance. Instead, it’s recommended to identify the true frontage of the home. This is similar to certain apartments we may have visited or lived in. 7. The entrance to the house is important in Feng Shui, as it is believed to be the point where positive energy, or Qi, enters and influences the overall atmosphere inside. 8. On a piece of land, the main entrance is often called the "mouth of the house." However, it’s the combination of the main entrance and features like windows at the front that help determine the facing direction. 9. The facing direction is the way from which most air, or Qi, enters the house. You can think of it like sitting in a convertible—with the air flowing towards your face. This main flow of Qi helps us identify the facing direction, which is the central idea behind facing and the mouth of the house. 10. Once you determine the facing direction, it’s easy to identify the sitting direction, as it is directly opposite the facing direction. Continued under Part II... Warmest Regards, Cecil +++ Summary The concepts of "facing and sitting directions" and the "mouth of the house" are central in Feng Shui, determining how positive energy (Qi) flows into a home, with the main entrance playing a crucial role in identifying these directions for optimal harmony. Key Takeaways - The main entrance, often called the "mouth of the house," is key to how Qi enters and influences the home's atmosphere. - Correctly identifying the true frontage is important, especially if the main door is on the side or faces another property closely. - The facing direction is where most Qi enters, and once established, the sitting direction is directly opposite. - These concepts are closely connected and fundamental to proper Feng Shui practice. However, if for Condo/HDB flats, the facing of the house could be different from the main door most of the time. In such circumstances, the main facing of the house is used rather than the main door. Mr Lee, could you please verify the correctness of my understanding, whether what I've written above is correct? I've been sourcing for a condominium and is also quite confused on whether the main door or thefront (windows of living and master bedroom) is used to match against the good direction from the Eight House Report generated from this website. For example, the Eight House chart shows that South is a good facing for me, so should I be looking out for a unit that sits on North and faces south (such that majority of the living room windows ( looks out towards north)
