Dear Xenia, To be honest, with limited information available, it is difficult to comment based strictly on Feng Shui concepts/principles or issues with it. In general, for a large bedroom, a sink is acceptable (especially nowadays, many modern homes have an attached bathroom but in addition, these larger homes with larger bathrooms have a wash or powder room type of area. In fact, it is very common to find even single storey homes with the bedroom at the frontage area of the home. Try to make the home as comfortable as possible for yourself and family members! Usually, for an old home, a fresh coat of paint, would be nice to refresh the home. And avoid too much …

Dear Anon, 1. In my country, I do encounter several old houses such as bangalow houses i.e. over 100 years old that has been transformed into quad or duplex houses. 2. In one such house, it became `sunken' in relation to other developments around it i.e. new buildings next to it on higher raised ground. In this particular house (or quad-units) the house is considered `entrapped' and surrounded by taller more modern buidlings surrounding it. From my personal observations of the house, for the past 5 years: 1. The owner of one particular unit at the ground level (entrapped house) had difficulty trying to find a buyer for it. 2. Progress for the breadwinner was slow and whil…

Dear Donna, In my opinion, when building a new home, the front door is not the only consideration. Serious consideration should also go towards the entire house taking into consideration the external environment, the site and the land. For the main door, it is best or advantages if it is an excellent location for the breadwinner. For other members of the family (even if one owns the plot of land); try to look at locations where it can be excellent or good for them especially in the bedroom area. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Stand at the window(s) to see if the tree trunk slices into the home? If no, this is not a threat to your home. This can be seen as a "commonsense" approach. Often a dead tree is prone to rot / termites (if any). And because of this issue, it can be considered unhealthy. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, You can review my comments on the various options on how to take a compass reading. In particular the difference between a building block, landed property and an apartment:- http://www.geomancy.net/resources/art/art-cecilcompass.htm Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Dragana, Please see below:- Given this senario, often, when one visits a so called Feng Shui website, they always sell such (commercial) things. The only difference I find between the Mandarin ducks vs the three legged toad is that: perhaps, the pair of mandarin ducks appeal more to westerners. While many Chinese: in Singapore, many of the lower (middle) income Chinese e.g. living in three or four room flats have such a three legged toad. All these are fool hardy, given that the money goes into the pocket of the seller. Frankly, should treat all these as decoration. If one likes say a painting, it can be pleasing to one's eyes. In fact, most of the material …

Hi Anon, Anonymous wrote: If you have small creekback of your house or source of water feature in front of your house.Does itmakes any difference which way water flow isgood orbad? Yes, the flow of any water feature is important. This is why there is the shapes and form concept about Water Courses. See this link for some details:- URL: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-wcourse.htm For example, even if you put an external water feature, it is good if the flow of the water is flowing into the house rather than outside of the house. Water flow out of the house means your wealth leaking out, while a water flow into the house means wealth flowing into the house.…

Dear Anon, Thank you for your layout plan. 1. Based on Shapes and Form FS (without consideration to other Schools), in my opinion, I would prefer bedroom 1, which is above the laundry area as opposed to bedroom 2, above the kitchen. 2. Attached please find the layout plan: house.jpg which shows the preferred position of the bed in bedroom 1 and 2. Marked by a rectanglar in RED and in BLUE. Depending on the window position, the head of bed if possible is preferred not to rest against a window. 3. I have marked the centrepoint of the home. Even if you are just renting a bedroom, you can take a compass reading of the house and check the `Eight House' of your room to see whet…

Dear Anon, Please see below:- Congratulations on your new home! In general, it is always prudent to look at `weaknessess' if any of a new home. Prior to making enhancements. This is usually the key success factor. Try to make sure that your main entrance door is protected. (Usually, there is no threats to the main entrance). But, there is no harm doing a `preventive audit'. Such as looking out of the main door and from all windows of the home. Check for poison arrows e.g. lamp posting slicing thru the main door or window(s) or other threats. Is there a direct path of `air flow' from the main door directly out at the opposite end? As mentioned, there is really no …

Hi, I need help with my fame/reputation gua, please. It is in the kitchen, so there is water, water, water. Furthermore, there is 12 inch high mirroring above the burners (good) and above all the counters below the cabinetry (bad). The mirroring also frames the window directly above the sink, about 2-3 inches wide up the sides. The mirroring continues up to the refrigerator. The entire kitchen is white ? cabinets, formica counter tops, ceramic floor. The walls are painted a light green. The kitchen is part of an open space room. You enter my house into career which then ends abruptly on the right (south) with a closet, and then two staircases: one going up and one going …

Dear Jen, If this is just a small plant and a one-time activity, it’s fine to do. Unless it’s something that will go on for a long time—which it isn’t. I think you should go ahead. Some people suggest putting a piece of metal between this area and your home, but I don’t think it’s needed. As long as you do it yourself, it’s OK. Don’t bring in bulldozers, that wouldn’t be good. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Hi, For sleeping position, of course it would be ideal if you can sleep in the direction of the good direction. But sometimes you can't. So most of the time as long as the bedroom sector is suitable for you, you already getting luck from a suitable sector. In addition, the shape and form placement of the bed is sometimes more important than the sleeping sector. The only time you can try to get everything done right is when you first renovate the room as only then do you have the luxuary of setting things right. Anyway, since you cannot do anything here, then what you can do is try to fix up or correct other flaws so as to compensate for this problem. Remember, that there …

Dear Anon, I can understand your concern. But, are you "buying" the business or studying in the institute. To be honest, when taking a course, most of us depend more on our "study / examination technique" than from the school in which we are considering studying in. Most of the questions that you had posed requires an on-site audit to determine e.g. the suitability of facade facilities and design(s). What is equally more important is the type of course that you are considering, which has an impact on your keeness, future earnings and a satisfactory career. Cheers! Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Kian Yuk, kian yuk wrote: we live in a house facing northeast(kun house), but all of us having the same Gua 9 opposing with our house. we do not know what to do or how to recognise auspicious and inauspicous directions of the house. Unfortunately, for a unsuitable house there is very little you can do to correct the suitability unless you can change your main door or facing direction. Usually, if the house falls under death or disaster for both person or at least for the breadwinner, the long term solution is to move out to a more suitable house, otherwise it is very difficult for you to enjoy the full amount of luck from the house. I know that moving out is the ha…

Dear Diane, Diane Price wrote: can you please advise me on what to do? We are in a south facing home which is bad for me, a west person, but, good for my husband, an east person. Any suggestions on what I can do to make this home suitable for both of us? I have searched for a front door cure, but, have had no luck. Thanks very much for your advise, Diane First question that you should be asking is, are you the breadwinner or your husband? A house must fit the breadwinner. This way the house will bring luck to the breadwinner who provides for the entire family. It is quite difficult to get a house that will fit family members. So the rest of the family members just need …

Dear Madan, If the Flying Stars are ok at this sector; since the person is a weak metal person; it is best to harmonize the room to this person's element. Thus, for a weak metal person, the best element to help him/her is "earth" element (yellow, cream or beige). This is the best "boost" as earth helps to fuel or increase weak metal. Another element that is favourable to this person is `metal' which is white or gold. Therefore, as you had mentioned if this sector is balanced and if there are no bad #5 or #2 earth stars here, then the best colour for the bedroom is cream or beige i.e. on the walls. And we can also harmonise this room by adding metal e.g. white or `gold' c…

Dear Linda, Generally, a rifle is a form of sha qi. So generally, it isn't advisable to hang a rifle. Even if you wish to display a rifle, it would be better that it is kept inside a glass display where the rifle barrel at least inside the glass display. It will definately make more sense to have a picture or a flower ornament rather than to hang a rifle. Hope that helps. Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research

Dear Avinash, Please refer to the attachment - file: layouta.gif You should take a compass reading at location A (looking at) point B. Once you determine the compass direction from A to B, you can then input the direction on a copy of a layout plan. With a protractor, you should then align it to the compass direction. For example, under layoutb.gif, if the main door is at 0 degrees, then you can add in the other compass directions. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Zan, For many years now, usually, you should be able to purchase the 2005 Chinese alamanac during the Chinese 7th Lunar month. Since this is often the time, the publication comes out of Hong Kong to Singapore. (Usually, you should be able to buy this 2005 alamanac from middle of August 2004 onwards. And once it is out, you can easily buy it from any HDB neighbourhood incense shop). If you can wait until then, no issue. Alternatively, you can check out our Auspicious date service:- http://www.geomancy.net/products/po-dates/po-dates.htm Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Frankly, this has not much to do with the need to place a symbolic object to "neutralise it". But rather, this issue has more to do with the "Commonsense approach" to Feng Shui. This is because, most of the time, it was felt that chances of a fire occuring in a home -- the most likely occurence could be from the kitchen. And since fire and heat travel upwards, this is our main concern. But in modern times, I would rather "invest" in having smoke detector(s) -- if you have not one already fitted than the bottle gourd. Here, there is a good chance that (touch-wood) in the event of a fire -- the smoke detector would go off and warn us. But the bottle gourd …

Dear Users, We are pleased to inform you that we have completed our website updates to the entire Report, Course and Book Management. We have tightly integrated all three sites under the universal management system. As our site is getting larger and larger, we have to upgrade our various management screens so that they conform to a particular standard making it easier to access and navigate between them. 1. We have extended the interactive help menu to all areas of the Universal Management to serve as a guide for you in the navigation as well as the generations of reports. This would supercede the default status which is often blocked especially for the IE browsers. 2. We…
