  1. Dear Master Cecil: I plan to have a stone patio in the back of my house. The back of my house is in the SW and West direction. And this patio would fall on the dividing line between the SW and West, i.e. a portion of the patio is in the SW and another portion is in the West. Is "stone" the proper material for the patio? Is the direction suitable for a patio? Please advise. Thank you. Regards, Anon
  2. Dear Master Cecil: I have read the web page at cecilcompass.htm, which is very helpful in determining the direction of a house. I need your expertise in analyzing the unique situation of my house. 1. Interior Feng Shui Qi of my house, which is a landed property: From the center point of the house, the frontage of my living room is in the NE direction and the middle point of my front door falls exactly on the dividing line between NE and East (I know how to use a compass and a protractor to get an exact reading). I am indecisive to tell whether I have a NE house or a East house. For your information, my living room is on the front side of my house. Only one side of the living room has windows. The windows are again at the front side of my house. 2. Exterior Feng Shui Qi of my House including the Plot of Land: My house faces the round circle part of a cul-de-sac. Your instruction says that the facing of the house should take from standing at the Main Gate of my house looking outwards to the "road". In my situation, I should look outward to the cul-de-sac? Or I should look outward to the road that comes to the cul-de-sac? 3. My four good sectors and four bad sectors are influenced by the interior Qi or the exterior Qi? Which Qi has the dominant impact? Thanks for your guidance. Regards, Anon
  3. Dear Master Cecil: I have seen your suggestion of several ways to determine the direction of a house: 1. the direction of the living room situates in a house. 2.1. the direction that a compass tells while standing at the center point (crossing point of the two diagonal lines of the rectangular) of the house and facing the middle point of the front entrance. 2.2 determine the direction at the front entrance if there are difficulties to get a measurement with the option 2.1 (for example, there are walls or a pillar at the center point). Which method is the traditional, standard, and preferred method of determining the direction of a house? Regards, Anon
  4. Dear Master Cecil: There is a "dead tree" -- no leave, only ugly tree branches, in my neighbor's back yard. There is no fence or anything that separates my neighbor's yard and my yard. In addition, the dead tree is almost at the property line and looks like situating in my back yard due to the layout of our properties and dwells. Is the dead tree inauspicious to me? What should I do to it? Thanks in advance for your advice. Regards, Anon
  5. Dear Master Cecil: Please advise if "metal cuts wood" apply to the following situation: A house faces the circle of a cul-de-sac (metal), and there is a medium-sized tree in line with the main entrance. It is bad that the tree slices into the main entrance. Nonetheless, does metal cuts wood in this situation? Or I completely mess up with the ideas and the above situation is "bad" + "bad"? Regards, Anon
  6. Dear Master Cecil: Some major Qi leakages have been mentioned repeatedly and discussed over and over in this Forum. Yet, several minor Qi leakages can be added up and become something major. I have no idea about those minor leakages. Would you kindly give several typical examples? Thanks for your time and guidance. Regards, Anon
  7. Dear Master Cecil: Is it bad "Feng Shui" to have a lake in the "back" of a house in addition to flooding concerns? Traditionally, we like to have something higher; such as a hill or high trees in the back of a house. I do have a lake in the back. Should I consider to move out? Thanks in advance. Regards, Anon
  8. Dear Master Cecil: I understand that it is fatal to have toilet at the door or at the centerpoint of a house. I also saw that it is inauspicious to have toilet beyond the main entrance. Would you kindly clarify 1. "toilet": It means toilet bowl or "the room that has a toilet bowl in it", i.e. bathroom. 2. "beyond main entrance": does it mean an area in the house that is in alignment with the range of the entrance door (entire width of the front door)? I am asking this question is because I have a bathroom, which is neither at the ceterpoint of the house nor at the main entrance. However, portion of that bathroom; primarily the walking area of that bathroom falls in the range of my front door. Nonetheless, the toilet bowl, wash basin, etc. are off the range of the front door. I am unable to judge how bad the location of this bathroom is and need your advice. Best Regards, Anon
  9. Dear Master Cecil: There is an element (metal, wood, water, fire, or earth) in each direction of a house. And there are matching colors to each element. If we plant flowers in the yard around the house, is it necessary to match the colors of the flowers to those elements? For example, plant red flowers in the south and blue flowers in the north? With Best Regards, Anon
  10. Dear Master Cecil: I have read your previous posts regarding crystals. According to you advices, it is of no use to hang crystals where there is no light; for example, in the south or north directions. And we should keep crystals clean for the light to shine through. Are there locations where hanging crystal are harmful? Why some people suggest to hang crystals in the NE and SW directions? Is it because the NE and SW are front and back devil gates? If you could kindly explain? Regards, Anon
  11. Dear Master Cecil: I have been posting this problem for several days. To answer your questions: 1. Standing at the main entrance of my house looking outside, I am "able to" see the mirror that my neighbor places outside and this mirror faces my house. My neighbor leans this mirror against their second floor window facing my house. It is an "at most" 7.5 inches in width and 3 inches in length flat surface mirror. The mirror is at least 5 meters (17 feet) away from the right hand side of my house. 2. There is absolutely no tree, no lamp post, no whatever other kinds of post, no poison arrow in my property. Nothing in my property slices into my neighbor's house or their windows. No poison arrow, etc. in my property that point at my neighbor's house. Absolutely NONE. I know the consequences of having trees, posts, etc. at wrong locations. Therefore, I do not want any of those things in my property. It is all clear in my property. 3. There are two one-story high trees at the side of my neighbor's house. Those trees are in "THEIR PROPERTY" (not MINE). Those two trees look like slicing into the right hand side of my house. Fortunately, I do not have any window at that side of my house. 4. I am in the USA. I am a Chinese. My neighbor's household consists of a Portugese husband, a white American wife, their children, ...... My neighbor is known for violating all kinds of rules and regulations in our housing community. They dig around their house every year. They places trash cans, mirros, etc. outside their house as they like. What should I do? Is a convex mirror that disperses those treats a solution? Does the sized of a mirror matter? What is the distance in terms of meters/feet that makes the effectiveness of a mirror go away? Please help me. I am dying for an answer. Thanks a million. Regards, Anon
  12. Dear Master Cecil: I live in a "full" round circle cul-de-sac. 1. the road for this cul-de-sac is at the left hand side of my house. 2. my house is not angled to the cul-de-sac and the main entrance of my house faces this cul-de-sac. 3. my house has red "natural brick" front. 4. my front door is of metal material and the color of my front door is red. In your view, does my house get lots of "sha qi"? Are there ways to neutralize this "sha qi"? I am listening to your opinions. Thanks. Regards, Anon
  13. Dear Master Cecil: Thank you for your concern about my problem with my next door neighbor's mirror. The mirror is "at most" 7.5 inches in width and 3 inches in length with flat surface. My next door neighbor leans this mirror against their second floor window, which faces the right hand side of my house. I am able to see this mirror when I walk out of my house. Their second floor window is at least 5 metres (more than 17 feet) away from the side of my house. To answer your questions. No, there is no altar in my house and there is no poison arrow; i.e. an arrow-head signage or main door with arrow-head grille gate, coming out of my house or aiming towards my neighbor. My next door neighbor is a less educated household in our housing community known for violating all kinds of rules and regulations. I am on "no-speaking" term with them. Is this mirror a threat to the Feng Shui of my house? Would a convex mirror be useful to disperse the effect of this flat surface mirror? Of course, if I put a convex mirror anywhere outside of my house, my mirror would be at least 5 metres away from their house (the same as their mirror is at least 5 metres away from my house). Does the size of a flat surface or a convex mirror matter in the context of Feng Shui? Warmest Regards, Anon
  14. Dear Master Cecil: I am very troubled at the moment. My next door neighbor puts a mirror outside and facing my house. It is an ordinary flat surface mirror. It is NOT a convex or concave or ba gua mirror. First, does this mirror pose a threat to the Feng Shui of my house? Second, what should I do if this mirror is a threat? Do I use a convex mirror to disperse it? Please help and provide advice. Thank you very much. Regards, Anon
  15. Dear Master Cecil: You have said repeatedly that Qi flows straight from the main entrance through a hallway out of the sliding glass doors in the back of the house is a major leakage. I have used a piece of fabric (no holes) and made a drapery like screen that is at least as high as the front door and at least as wide as the front door. In addition, there is no space between the floor and lower edge of the screen. I put this screen at the end of the hallway. Standing at the entrance of the house, one is unable to see the glass doors in the back even the front door is fully opened. I have also made a drapery that covers the sliding glass doors in the back of the house. Does what I did block the leakage of Qi? Thanks. Regards, Anon
  16. Dear Master Cecil: I was told that it is bad for a house being much higher than neighboring houses. Does it apply to commercial buildings? Do you have comments on the World Trade Center twin towers, New York, USA, that collapsed about one and half years ago? Is it bad Feng Shui to re-build the World Trade Center at the site where close to three thousands people died and most of their remains could not be recovered? Regards, Anon
  17. Dear Master Cecil: I am the owner of the house in City A. I have a job in City B. And I rent a house and live in City B. I do not have permanent plan in City B; therefore, I rent a house there, although I spent 99% of the year in City B. I go home in City A for a visit for at most four weeks per year. My "earth luck" is determined by the Feng Shui of my permanent home, where I spend less than one month per year, in City A or by the Feng Shui of my rental home, where I spend most time of the year, in City B? Regards, Anon
  18. Dear Master Cecil: Are bathtub/shower stall and toilet considered to be water positions in a house? Is it bad to have bathtub/shower stall in the south? According to the eight house chart, south is where "fire" is and water destroys fire. Regards, Anon
  19. Dear Master Cecil: What is the correct design of a Ba Gua and its color? I am asking this question because there are too many variations of Feng Shui tools on the market these days. For example, I just browsed the internet to look for Feng Shui products. Some online shops sell 3 metal rod, 4 metal rod, 5 metal rod, and 8 metal rod wind chimes. The missing one happens to be the correct one, i.e. the 6 metal rod wind chime. Those shops also string up three I-Ching coins, 4 I-Ching coins, 9 I-Ching coins, and 6 stringed up I- Ching coins are unavailable. As a buyer, it is very easy to unintentionally purchase the wrong Feng-Shui products. I have another question. Exactly one day ago, I got your consensus to hang my 8 metal rod wind chime in the NE corner. A member of this Forum immediately wrote something like: "do not hang wind chime in the NE corner outside the house because the NE is the devil gate". I do not know I should keep my wind chime there or take it down. Please advise. Warmest Regards, Jen
  20. Dear Master Cecil: Just read your comments on the inauspicious toilet locations in a house. I quickly reviewed the layout plans of all models in the housing development in which I live. In this housing subdivision, every house is a two stories dwelling plus a basement and a car garage. All the floor plans show that there is a half bath (a bathroom without bath tub/shower) on the first floor, and this half bath falls in the center grid (if I divide the housing area into 9 equal grids) for every housing model. Because the center grid is much bigger than the area of the bathroom, the toilet bowl (and the bathroom) does not happen to be at the "center point" (I mean the crossing point of two diagonal lines drawn from the four corners of the housing area) for all houses. I wonder if there is cure for this situation. Because there are at least 3 other bathrooms than "this half bath on the first floor" in every house, should we seal this toilet bowl? Or seal the door of this half bathroom? Or hang a Ba Gua in this half bathroom? Or ...... can be corrected by certain method? Please help. Thanks in advance. Regards, Anon
  21. Dear Master Cecil: Can Ba Gua correct "forms and shapes" problems of a house? Is Ba Gua a much effective cure than crystals and metals? I am told by a Feng Shui master not to use Ba Gua because it blocks both negative energy (sha chi) and positive energy all together. What is the real function of Ba Gua? And how and where to use Ba Gua properly? Thank you for your advice in advance. Warm Regards, Jen
  22. Dear Master Cecil: I "did not" spend money to buy this 8 metal rod wind chime; therefore, please do not think that I have it because "8" sounds like "prosperity" in Cantonese. I think the North East is a good direction to hang this 8 metal rod wind chime. Please comment on my reasoning: #8 is weak earth and NE is earth. Earth creates metal. If there are problems in my NE corner to be cured, metal is the right recipe. If there isn't any problem in my NE corner, this wind chime does not do any harm and I enjoy its metallic sound. Please let me know if I am on the right track. Thanks. Warm Regards, Jen
  23. Dear Master Cecil: Why does "strong"; for example, strong water and strong earth, always seem to be disastrous. In contrast, weak water and weak earth do not seem to have much effect on anything? Regards, Jen
  24. Dear Master Cecil: In accordance with what I have read so far, wind chimes are used to either disperse bad single/multiple #5, #2 or enhance the positive effects if they are hanged in the wealth sector. Therefore, wind chimes do not seem to be those commercial products. In fact, wind chimes have Feng Shui meaning. Does the constant metal sound in the wealth sector really help? Regards, Anon
  25. Dear Master Cecil: From Feng Shui point of view, are gem trees "man luck" items? Or they can enhance positive "Chi" in the house? With Warm Regards, Jen
