Dear Ceci, Yes, nowadays, many of such clocks such as the Seiko, Citizen, Hosenki brands use a plastic decorative pendulum that is spray painted `gold'. Given that some of these makes sound, Ipersonally feel that these type of `pendulum' clocks and the slient ones that makes noice are not really appropriate. Can consider them as decorative items. Dear Anon, Yes, very often it is very sad to learn that one has to borrow money to do it up for the sake of " Feng Shui ". Nowadays, Feng Shui in it's name sake has come to a very sad state of affairs. Often, these people, simply don't care about others; other than to make a quick buck. Nowadays, majority of FS practitioners are only concerned within the 4 walls of a house or apartment. In fact, Feng Shui is not just about the interior, alone. For example, if the exterior form is not favourable, no amount of enhancement within the house can do wonders. 1. If our house / apartment is like a mini car; no matter how, it cannot seat say 6 adults. If so, we have to buy an MPV. 2. As practitioners, we also have to put ourselves in the shoes of the owners. 3. More importantly, first look out for `leaks' both external and interior. 4. Dear All, 1. Symbollically, it is not favourable to have stripes that run vertically towards the main entrance door. It is like two lines slicing towards the main door. 2. Since this is uncommon, and there are not many cases to fall back on i.e. to confirm that it is inauspicious; why not be on the safe side? 3. Dear Anon, Yes, a flat mirror with appropriate dimensions are often placed on the advice of temple priests. If your door is within 1 to 2 metres away from your neighour's this can be a threat to your home. Do try to estimate the size of the mirror. Often it is 8 inches by x inches. Sometimes, it can be very large i.e. 17 inches by 17 inches (43cm by 43cm). Please check: 1. Do you have an altar? If so, is it currently facing outwards of your main door. Such that when one steps into your home, (main door) it is in full view? 2. Is there any poison arrow coming from your home. For example an arrow-head signage or main door with arrow-head grille gate? 3. Any perceived poison arrow coming from your unit `aimed' towards your neighbours? 4. And the attach picture should be considered a general example or broad example. 1. Purple line - manipulation of qi flow (or symbolic qi flow towards the centrepoint or the heart of the house. 2. Red - proposed location of screen. Please take note that ideally, the screen should hug or be around the same level as one side of the corridor as shown by a straight blue line. 3. Here, a half height glass panel is acceptable since, it can help to difuse light towards the main door area. 4. Since the master bedroom door is at the end of the corridor, the screen should not be seen to cut into the master bedroom door. 5. Dear Anon, Please see below:- It is good to be of full length. But if this is not practical ($$$) or not possible, then at least, it should be up to the height of the level of the main door. Yes; it can have open shelves on one side for display. But at the lower half, if it is a cabinet, avoid placing shoes here. Yes, half glass is often used especially if the main door is furthest away from light source. Another important point is that a proper location should be chosen. For example, try to make the living room and dining room into two separate "entities". Avoid it `slicing' into a bedroom door - especially if it is placed exactly at the middle of a corridor. Try to, where possible `hug' a wall or level to the wall closest to the dining area. Or if the living room is quite large, then, it can hug the level of the corridor wall closes to it. Dear Utpal, 1. Although, a `solid' or actual pyramid can be used, it is often not practical to do so. 2. This is because, the pointed tip of the pyramid is not exactly ideal -- if it is facing locations like the sofa or seating location. 3. A crystal pyramid can be used if it has light or light shines below it (upwards). light represents - fire. 4. Actually a simplier solution is that if you need to introduce the Fire elment, why not e.g. use red / pink coloured curtains or walls painted pink / red or purple. 5. However, as you have only looked at your home based on just the Gua, there can be a possible double edged sword if Fire element is wrongly introduced:- 5.1 It is unfavourable if you are a weak water or Strong fire person. 5.2 Under Flying Star Feng Shui, there are say #5 and #2 (strong BAD earth elements) Under the productive sequence, introducing Fire, may inadvertently fuel more bad earth. And there is additional probability that a sector may also have bad wood elements such as #3 and #4. If there are and incombination of #5 and #2, adding Fire element can help bridge this bad wood and earth gap. Dear Anon, 1. If you can try to provide a sketch. 2. Firstly, a screen is not just about blocking qi (although) it is one of the reasons. 3. There are two other reasons: FIRST:- A.1 For an `L' shaped living cum dining room, it will give each rooms additional rectangular form. A.2. Even if the living cum dining room is elongated, it will also try to make it `more rectangluar' i.e. two rectangles. SECOND:- A.2. If properly positioned, it can help to further `meander' qi or seem to encourage to flow towards the centrepoint and often on to the `other side' which is often the bedrooms and vice versa. I am very concerned about your statement below:- I like to clarify that what I had mentioned cannot be taken as a blanket cover for all homes to use screens. It has to be based on individual homes. As no two homes are alike. If in doubt, please sent in a sketch of one's home to confirm. The reason for saying so is: In your `fix' you used a screen. If the main door area is already dim. And if the screen cuts out further light to the main door; sometimes it may not be favourable to do so. Sometimes, panel glass can be used to allow light to flow towards the main door area. At times, if the screen is placed wrongly, it would seem as a knife `cutting' into the room door(s). The maxim is often true: " Too much knowledge is (or maybe) a dangerous thing. For example, repainting this wall. 2. Do not disturb him. Here; for example if the garden is just outside this location, it is best not to dig earth. Or in the interior of the house, at this sector, not to hack wall or floor tiles. Or do substantial drilling at this spot. 3. Otherwise, moving furniture or couch or sofa, can still be done. For example, two reasonable adults should be able to move the furniture. 4. If not, go to any of the handy fix or D.I.Y. store and purchase `friction' free e.g. circular leg supports that allows one to slide the furniture effortlessly. 5. We should not be or try not to be too worried about being at the location of the Grand Duke or do any other normal activity at his area other than those mentioned under Para 1 and 2. 6. Dear Dominique, A good foundation is always to try and seek the reasoning. The Chinese I-Ching coin can be analysed as followings:- 1. The outer circle (of the coin) Circle represents metal element 2. Colour of the coin The colour of the coin looks metallic i.e. copper coin. (metal element) 3. What is the square hole? If one looks carefully at the productive sequence: Square represents Earth element. What so good about this? Since square represents Earth, under the productive sequence: Earth supports or fuel Metal. Thus symbolically strengthening the Metal element. 4. Why use 6? (6 coins) Number 6 represents BIG or STRONG metal. 5. Why use Red string? Red represents fire. Under the destructive sequence of the Five elements concept; Fire CONTROLS Metal. 6. Thus, since we are using a STRONG metal cure, it is best to seek a balance by say introducing some Fire element such as a red string. 7. The amount of red string should be sufficient to hold all the six coins. Thus, it should be ridiciously OVER-USED. So long as it can hold all the 6 coins - where the 6 coins can all be seen strung together it is fine. 8. There is thus no such thing as the number of treads, the thickness, whether there is a tassle or not. All these does not matter. But it would be bad to use red to cover nearly all the surface area of the coins. Like this, might as well spray paint the coins a funny all red. (This is thus not acceptable). 9. My personal advise is: to have a solid grounding of all concepts. Once, this is achieved, together with continous learning, every authentic traditional Feng Shui use or cure can be " authenticated " or explained clearly. 10. This is what makes the difference between Authentic Traditional Feng Shui and other `unknown' practices that cannot be authenticated. For example, many Man or Human luck practitioners cannot truly `provide' proof that a certain corner is our wealth corner. Especially to the effect of asking us to place a piggy bank. It might appeal to `fools' but we must all be discerning about it. Therefore, if anyone says this, do challenge them. If this cannot be answered, it is evident that all these are not Feng Shui but - `make us feel good' i.e. Man or Human luck components. But again, it will not be for long. The closest to finding wealth sector, is to use Flying Star Feng Shui - to properly activate water positions especially if there are e.g. #7 or #6 or mountain stars (for luck) at certain locations under specific conditions. One Feng Shui foot is roughly equal to 43 cms.) Description of tables with multiples of 17 inches (lenght x width):- THE MAGICAL 17 INCH FACTOR "One Feng Shui foot was derived from the side of a square, where the length of the diagonal of a square is the square root of two. In the West, this is known as the `magic square'. Thus multiples of 17 inches will translate to several square foot of the optimium auspicious width. " -- End of extract -- 1. Ideally, the minimum length of your screen should be 17 inches or multiples of 17 inches or approximately multiples of 43cms. 2. Usually, if the main door is too close to the screen; for example 1 to 1 1/2 metre distance, it is best to use a full screen that can cover the entire door. This is because, it is not auspicious to open to half a `wall' (symbolic half-screen) and face a void. Here, the main door is considered out-of-balance. For public housing flats, (this is not made known) but in the past, the government had the HDB (housing development board) flat Feng Shuied and if one checks the dimensions of the door and it's outer-frame, these are auspicious measurements. Thus, a screen following the measurement of the door or door with the outer frame are auspicious. In your case, since the main door is quite a distance from the screen, YES, you can use `half' the measurement or the best is to go for 43 cm or multiples of 43 cm for your screen. For example, if a room has bad #5 or #2. Since these are bad earth elements; Under the Five element concept, seemingly: Wood can be used to crush or destroy bad earth i.e. control it. But this can be a double edged sword if: Fire is introduced say in the room. As a result; the introduced WOOD, would help fuel FIRE which will inturn fuel more bad earth. Given this; it would be in such a situation - better to use Metal. Since it can help to weaken Earth. Thus, on a more cautious side, I would say, METAL is a better choice. This is not as important as: 1. How much natural light filters into this area? 2. If there is no natural light (quite dark); one can compensate it by turning on artificial light. Frankly, this is not a major issue here. Although it sounds interesting to `bark-up' this tree; this is not the main concern in Feng Shui. If one is proficient with Shapes and Forms, frankly, one do not really need to rely on Flying Star or numerology of it in Feng Shui. This is because " Water stars " or activiating it is as easy as making sure that at the frontage e.g. main door or living room or balcony area, there is clear space. However, for mountain stars (if found), under Flying Star, it can only be activated at the `back' or a solid wall or a symbolic wall or support. As much as we like to wishfully activate a mountain star - it would be silly to activate it at the main door. For example, isn't it silly to place a rock above the main door? Commonsense tells us that law of gravity can effectively bring down this rock dropping it on someone's head - if they are unlucky enough. Similarly, why place a mountain to block our water (clear space) at the front? Symbolically, it is like giving ourselves `difficulty' each time we step into the house. Yes, it is very unrealistic to leave a wall or flooring untouched. It is very impractical - and seems `silly' to do so:) 4. This is why another key sucess factor in Feng Shui is the selection of auspicious dates. 5. The two most important dates are:- 5.1. Selecting a good date for start-of-renovations. 5.2. Selecting a date for move-in. 6. After selecting an auspicious date for start-of-renovations, the contractor can start work even at the Tai Sui location. 1. The key to understanding this is to look at it from this point of view:- 2. Especially for the breadwinner; if a house / apartment is unsuitable; and depending on the degree of unsuitability i.e. death or disaster or irritation or spook; it is akin to having a `fractured arm' when first moved-in. 3. If one also has te toilet at the centrepoint and toilet next to the main door; it is akin to having a leg amputated when first moved-in. 4. Usually, these are known as `leaks'. The more the leaks, the more or higher the probability that it may lead usually first towards finance problems. 5. Often, the shareholder is an `influential' shareholder. 3. To be honest, we do get many corporate heads especially the Chairman / CEO / MD who requests to look at the designs submitted by the concept artists or Marketing head. 4. And without much funfare and with much secrecy, the birth chart of e.g. the Chairman is looked at to see if the logo harmonies with them. 4.1 It is with these influential parties that make a request - that it is transparent to the rest of the rest of the shareholders. 4.2 Ultimately, we say " they call the shots ". I know of many Chinese bosses and many stakeholders of companies often go by this not so visible route. 4.3 Likewise, we often meet the bosses in the evening after most or all their staff had left or on a Sunday or Saturday to analysis the sitting positions. Further to what I had mentioned, for most homes especially flats and apartments, the key success in analysing a home is to find the centrepoint. For those who are more inclined towards Shapes and Forms:- Try to imagine the centrepoint as the `heart' of the house. Often taking reading from the centrepoint is the better solution because: we are trying to encourage Qi flow from the main door or even balcony down towards this centrepoint or flux - much like a train station exchange where qi (invisible) air moves towards the rest of the house especially the bedrooms etc... and vice versa. For those who are more inclined towards mathematics - applying Flying Star Feng Shui (Xuan Kong Feng Shui): This same method is used - and more importantly, it is translated to numbers where these people can easily understand these numbers. Dear Guest, 1. Please take a look at the attached file: flux.gif 2. Potentially, there is a leak from the main door to the windows & vice versa. Even if you do not open the main door often, this is considered a wealth leak. 3. The advantage (please see the red line) is to use a screen that covers the entire main door. 3.1 This screen should be at least up to the height of the main door and `air-tight' i.e. it does not have pigeon holes. It can be a rattan screen that allows some air - still ok. 3.2 What is the purpose of the screen? Two main purpose:- 1. It will help to make the living/dining into two `smaller' rectangle shape. Note: Rectangle shape is a good form or multiples of rectangle shape or symbolic multiple shapes are ideal in a home. 2. If we imagine the `flux' or centrepoint of your house, what we want to do is to have air that can flux or meander from the living room area to towards this flux into other rooms. 3. The key success in a home is to see Qi flow that can constantly move around freely and clearing stagnat qi within the house. 4. And imagine this: if one lives on an island or even a land mass, there is always water positions especially the sea. If one studies geography, one can imagine that in the day time, the sun heats the land mass, while the sea is cooler. And air constantly from from land to the sea and vice versa. 5. Depending on the house, in the day time sometimes air can blow in from e.g. the living room balcony / bedroom while at night it may come from the opposite direction. 6. We should take advantage of air to circulate freely in the home. 7. An alternative, for the rich, is to turn on air con all round. This circulates the air. 8. It is the constant moving of air or qi that is indeed the invisible `key sucess factor' and can significantly bring up the `luck' of a home. 9. Missing Corners 9.1 Given your layout plan, try instead to concentrate on allowing free movement or air from the living/dining via the centre to the bedrooms and vice versa. 9.2 Mirrors are a double edged sword. If placed at wrong locations especially for a period 7 house i.e. at the East wall and South wall - this is not ideal. As one may inadvertently create twice the `bad luck'. 9.3 Based on your layout, and looking at the flux, I do not see the missing corners as a real concern. 9.4 In fact, if your window is the casement type i.e. that has a window that swings outwards, this is advantages and it can collect more air (qi) into a comfortable and airy house. As oppose to a sliding window, which often, one has one panel that cannot be opened. 9.5 The good thing about your layout is the compensating factor of the windows at the missing corner - as opposed to a solid wall.
