Common sense and laying of parquet flooring

Parquet flooring in a home should be laid similar to this arrangement:-

Avoid laying parquet flooring similar to this "zebra crossing" method:-

This is because if the parquet flooring is worn down; such a pattern may cause splinters ..

Shows signs of wear and tear.

Worse if it soft and tender feet may be "scratched" against such "zebra crossing" laid panels.

Same for blocks of parquet tiles if they are laid in the same manner.
