Staff Cecil Lee Posted September 29, 2018 Staff Share Posted September 29, 2018 Case Study: I used to have a lovely study room. With full height glass walls. 1. Once upon a time,, this lovely study room is in full view of the living room. And a proud addition to this home. A room fit for a CEO or a CFO of the family. Walking into the living room, one can see the above view. 2. Sadly it was re-converted back into a bedroom. As the family members had expanded through the years. But the rooms still remain the same! Today: A makeshift curtain for privacy = bed and the interior bedroom "mess". 3. For heaven's sake! Think long term before using full glass panels in any rooms. 4. In particular, converting it back from a study into a bedroom again. 5. I always tell my client, even if one wants to have glass walls, often make do with half-walls NOT full walls. 6.1. The reason is simple and based on common sense. 6.2. Human habits often would pile or place things in a study or a room especially on the floor. And a full height glass walls means that one can see directly into that room. 7. Small Talk: Toddler (occupying the study reconverted back into a bedroom): " Mama.. I can't sleep in this bedroom!" Mama: "What's wrong darling?" Toddler: "The lights from the dining & living room is glaring" Mama shouted: "PAPA! Go FIX-IT"... No wonder, today, there is a make-shift curtain ... as seen today... Staff Cecil Lee Posted September 29, 2018 Author Staff Share Posted September 29, 2018 Case Study: Profile of persons who install such glass walls in their study are often Male, first home owners, young and usually below 30's In my opinion, often these are usually first-time owners early to late twenties with no children, yet. Very few if any who are in their mid-30's onwards go for these "aquarium" type of room. Here, when we are outside looking into these rooms, it certainly is like looking into an aquarium. Staff Cecil Lee Posted September 29, 2018 Author Staff Share Posted September 29, 2018 Case Study : Do's and Don'ts of converting a bedroom into a study room with glass walls. 1. Has this to do with Feng Shui? Directly No. It is based more on common sense. 1.1 However, under Symbolism in Feng Shui, do check out why often it is not possible to have a SINGLE piece of glass. Here, the joint-line of two pieces of glass may be a concern.... read on... 2. Ideally, if possible, avoid a full height glass wall from the floor to the ceiling. 3. Try to apply a half-height wall. Ideally, from the floor to the top of the wall is 42". The lowest is 32". 4. Often is the glass wall covers the entire room: common sense says that as a result your Interior Designer and/or contractor may not be able to provide one single piece of glass. 5. Did you see an "X" in the illustration. 6. It is just to highlight that when we are now at this position peering into the study room, the joint-lines of the glass pieces should not split the person's side-provide in-half. 7. Especially for HDB 5 Bedroom type, some are considering building a study in the living room. And often the sofa is placed against the back of this wall. 7.1. In such a situation, try to avoid the "X" or split line directly at the middle of the sofa. Under symbolism, it is like splitting the living room in half. Check whether odd pieces of glass pieces is a better alternative.
