Here we call it old school. 1970's style. Common in the past. So long as the REAR of the house is higher than this sunken area, is fine or okay in Feng Shui.

you immediately nailed the situation, master. This sunken will be convenient if wanted as filling up is necessity. Increase the elevation of the property a bit from the road.
