I am a newbie to Feng Shui who have been learning it mostly through Lillian Too's books. I discovered Geomancy-Online recently and am very interested about all the services rendered here. This is the most organized and informative Feng Shui site I have seen. I have also noticed that the administrators (both Cecil and Robert) reply promptly to users' questions. I wish this site "live long and prosper."
Question 1:
As I am a Kua 3 (Female of 1970), according to my 8-House chart, my Prosperity is SOUTH. I have also heard that the FIVE YELLOWS is also located at the SOUTH this year. Therefore, should I or should I not
i. enhance the SOUTH
ii. sit facing SOUTH
Question 2:
Does the 8-house chart applicable at all times? Or will one get a different one after a certain period of time?
Question 3:
Could the 8-house chart be applied to all floors of a say double-story house?
Thank you very much.
Rose

Thank you for your well wishes:)
Question 1:
As I am a Kua 3 (Female of 1970), according to my 8-House chart, my
Prosperity is SOUTH. I have also heard that the FIVE YELLOWS is also

Although the Five yellow is at the South this year, you should consider this
a general statement e.g. written by an author for `everyone'. However, if
you go `deeper' into the Flying Star theory, the `deeper' the analysis, the
more accurate it is.

An accurate Flying Star chart should ideally take into account a few key things:
1. The birth chart of the house.
2. Your personal kua number.
3. The exact direction of the main entrance (in 15-degree increments).

So, in my view, if something is so general that it can be applied to everyone without considering a personalized Flying Star chart—at the very least the house’s birth chart and its precise facing direction—then I wouldn’t consider that reading truly accurate for everyone.

Question 2:
Does the 8-house chart applicable at all times? Or will one get a different
one after a certain period of time?

Yes. Unlike the general Flying Star chart, your personal Kua number applies all the time. As you may have noticed, it’s customized for each person from Kua 1 to 8, and it never changes over time.

Ideally, you can think of the Eight House Theory as your own personalized guide to your good and bad locations. The only thing it doesn’t factor in is the house’s birth chart, but even so, it remains a simple yet powerful method. Personally, I’ve found the Eight House Theory to be very accurate, and many users here have benefited from it.

Right now, there are a few mailing lists where people don’t believe in this theory. These tend to be practitioners trained in Western-style Traditional Feng Shui, especially those who focus on Xuan Kong or Flying Star.

1. I feel that what they often overlook is that the Eight House Theory is designed mainly for understanding your personal directions and whether a home suits you.
2. Some of them modify the Eight House Theory by mixing it with Flying Star, which makes it extremely unstable. An example is in Derek Walter’s handbook, where he combines Eight House with Flying Star.
3. Some Western schools try to use the elements from the Eight House Theory for cures, but later realize they conflict with Flying Star or Xuan Kong. This approach isn’t correct. The Eight House Theory should stand on its own without being altered.

This is part of the reason why some Western-style Traditional Feng Shui practitioners speak against the Eight House Theory.

At Geomancy.net, we do extensive research and explore all areas of Feng Shui. One unfortunate thing is that, because much of the Internet is influenced by Western-trained practitioners, the voices of Traditional Feng Shui Masters—especially those who don’t speak English—are not heard as often.

This is why we try our best to stay objective. Believe me, I own more than 400 Feng Shui books, and every book written in Mandarin uses the Eight House Theory. So if Western practitioners speak strongly against it, you can see that there might be some bias, especially since Western schools had an early advantage by teaching Feng Shui in English. When you look closely, it feels as though they continue promoting their own views and labeling Eight House as second-rate, while presenting Xuan Kong or Flying Star as something only professionals should use.

We’re not trying to start any conflict here. Instead, I hope you can take some time to think about what I’ve shared. If you read Chinese, try picking up books written in Mandarin. If the Eight House Theory (not Eight Aspirations) were truly second-rate, why would so many Mandarin-speaking authors and Masters rely on it so strongly? It does make you wonder.

This misunderstanding is exactly why, at Geomancy.net, we aim to show you both sides. We stay flexible and strive to bring you quality Feng Shui using the best techniques from many specialties, including Shapes and Form, Pillars of Destiny, Xuan Kong, and of course, the Eight House Theory.

The most exciting part is that within the next five to ten years, Geomancy-U.com will have one of the largest groups of thoughtful Feng Shui graduates whose skills are valued by everyone. Our hope is that after completing our courses, our students will not be narrow-minded, but well-versed in all areas of Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology.
