wasis
Dear Cecil,I'd like to ask you some questions regarding kitchen & stove:1. Is it allowed to have a water tank above a kitchen (but not above the stove)?2. I have been told to have a stove with solid backing. May I consider plywood as solid backing?3. You say stove is not allowed to be in front of a wash basin. What if the stove faces East & the wash basin faces West but they are not opposite directly?4. Is it allowed to have a toilet (with its own toilet door) inside a kitchen? Please take a look at the picture.5. While cooking, which hand-swing is preferable: to the left/right side of the house or to the back side of the house?6. Is it allowed to have a balcony above a kitchen?7. Is it allowed to have a door (to the balcony) above a stove? Thanks in advance.Regards,Wasis----- Original Message -----From: Newsgroups: geomancynet.moderated.discuss.free-adviceSent: Monday, October 27, 2003 3:53 PMSubject: Kitchen stove location Quote Dear Lola,1. Just take note that one Feng Shui School of Thought finds it highlyunfavourable for the kitchen to be at NE. In addition, the stove is at NE.2. This School of thought suggests that the kitchen, should not be at theNorthand NE sectors of a home. It has more the concept of cold winds blowingfromthe North. And, thus, this affects a stove situated at the North and NE.3. However, I personally find this argument to be not exactly applicabletoevery geographical locations.4. The idea behind Para 2 is because, it may be hard to cook IF - therehighwinds blowing into the kitchen from openings close to this. Here, if oneis notaffected by the winds, then this is not a major issue.5. The idea is also equivalent of the "commonsense approach" to Feng Shuiinthat a stove should not be placed with it's back at a window area.6. The next more critical point emphasised by nearly every FS practitionerisbased on the Yin and Yang concept. Here, it is not ideal for the stove tobejust next to the water position.7. Another major consideration is that a stove must not sit below a beamor awater pipe. If water pipe is to be run below the stove, it must not passthestove within 6 inches distance. Where possible, the pipe should run in a Ushape design away from the stove.8. Since both of you are of the same Gua (Kua) then, it is good for thestoveto be facing your favourable direction.9. Some Feng Shui practitioners recommend the stove (fire) face the Eastor SE(wood locations). And alternatively facing south as opposed to north.Sincenorth is the water position. But, here, I find that this may not bepracticalin many instances. Since some of these positions are inauspicious e.g. thestove facing the back toilet bowl/wash basin etc...10. Under my last point, it is important that the stove does not face thetoilet entrance e.g. facing the toilet bowl, wash basin or shower of thebacktoilet.>I understand that by>placing it on the NE walls the>"oven mouth" is facing SE and>both these directions being>bad directions for us should>give us good chi ... is this>correct ???11. As mentioned, there are many different interpretations of the positionofthe stove.12. Some FS practitioners feel that it should be placed facing a baddirectionto burn away bad qi. While others feel that it should be in a goodlocation toenhance qi.13. I have already listed, the major considerations regarding the stove. Andthe above statement above under Para 12 - can have different meanings todifferent people and practitioners.14. What matters most is to look at the total kitchen in relation to Shapes andForms - Feng Shui first, then look out for the above points ofconsiderations.Warmest Regards,Cecil
Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 12, 2003 Staff Share Posted November 12, 2003 Dear Wasis,Part I of reply:-Based on your kitchen layout, the most optimal stove position is at locations : Marking A or B.For marking A, the only major issue is that there is a window. Quote 2. I have been told to have astove with solid backing. MayI consider plywood as solidbacking? Yes, this can be used. But, under commonsense approach to Feng Shui, in case of a fire, plywood is a combustable object and may cause more damage in a real fire.In the above example, Marking B is more practical, since a stove a marking A will cause the window to be closed - no air.Warmest Regards,CecilP.S. wasis
Dear Cecil,Please see below: Quote Part I of reply:-Where is the Part II? :)Based on your kitchen layout, the most optimal stove position is atlocations : Marking A or B.For marking A, the only major issue is that there is a window. The position of the window is above head-level. Perhaps the bottom edge ofthe windows is 2 meters from the floor. However, I am afraid the stove willface the balcony door on the second floor indirectly (both are parallel).>2. I have been told to have a>stove with solid backing. May>I consider plywood as solid>backing?Yes, this can be used. But, under commonsense approach to Feng Shui, incase of a fire, plywood is a combustable object and may cause moredamage in a real fire. What kind material do you suggest for temporary condition? My main concern is that the toilet is inside the kitchen. So I want to make some change.Under new arrangement (as attached), the kitchen has its own room and thetoilet is not inside the kitchen anymore. Please give some comment about it. Quote In the above example, Marking B is more practical, since a stove a markingA will cause the window to be closed - no air. However Marking B will make the stove facing North. Is it good? Coz I heardnorth facing stove means excessive spending. And I guess the position is inSouth East sector considering the size of the house is 5 meter wide x 18meter long. Thanks in advance.Regards,Wasis
