Period 5 house or 8?

Hello, we have recently moved into a home which was built in 1952 making it a Period 5 house, however, our neighbour just told us that the previous owners had put a new roof on the house approx. 8 years ago. They replaced the roof on the house and just part of the garage (which is attached to the house). Does this change the period of our house? Thanks for your reply.

Dear Anon,

In addition, how does the interior look like? Did the previous owner also did any renovations within the home?

Usually, by removing the roof, the home would often be a candidate of change to a new period. But since it was done 8 years ago, your home is most likely a Period 7 home (1984 to 2003) instead of a Period 8 home.

A home is considered as under Period 8 if the reno was done on or after 2004.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Thank you for your quick reply. There were no renovations made besides the roof. I appear to have the mountain & water star in the North to be both 7 (7-7-3 combination) with a 9 annual! I want to be very cautious with remedies as this is also the main kitchen eating area (we intend on tearing down this house next year & rebuilding, therefore I would prefer to not do any major renovations at this time). Can you advise on which cure I should be placing?

P.S. Yes, we have had 2 robberies already since moving in.

Thank You

Hi Master Cecil,

Happy CNY to you. Wish you all the best in this year of rooster. In relation to the period 5 or 7 house, I have read websites and heard that if one moves into an establishedhouse during Period 8, Period 8 flying chart should be used, irrespective of when the house was built or last renovated. Is thiscorrect ?

Thanks.

Dear Alex,

1. Actually, what it means is that for example: if one has a new home completed on or before 2004; but had only moved-in after 2004, then we can consider it as a Period 8 home.

2. Thus, it is not like someone else had moved-out of the home especially if it was built prior to 2004 and when we move it, it does not mean that the home is now a Period 8 home. This "old" home is still considered a period 7 or 6 .... etc.. home.

3. Therefore, it applies to homes that had being completed prior to 2004 and no one had yet stayed in it. And when we purchase and stay in it from 2004 onwards, we can than consider it a Period 8 home. Butit is not a period8 home under Para 2, above.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
