Generally, salt lamps are made from salt crystal rocks. Generally, it is not really a feng shui item or product. Just a decorative form of lighting feature. No issue in general to use it.

In terms of best feng shui location, it is related more towards crystal. Under the feng shui, areas where there is auspicious mountain star (ie star 8/9/1 for period 8 houses, or 7/8/9 for period 7 houses), should benefit from having some form of mountain star feature. Typically a crystal or mountain picure.
