Dear Cecil, Thanks for your reply. I have 2 more questions: 1. What are the most important evil stars? Are both star 2 & 5 we should always watch out? 2. If both living room & dining room are covered by 3 sectors. How can we apply the cure effectively? Will the cure interfere with stars in other sections? Looking forward to your reply. Huu

Dear Elkay, 1. I have `cut-paste' this message which was a recent reply under the forum topic: " Feng Shui for Business ". 2. Feng Shui cannot be seen as a `cure all'. If there are better `tools' or `concepts' e.g. methology in teaching, this would prevail over the use of "Feng Shui". And even give a quantum leap, where Feng Shui cannot fully achieve. It is the same as using specialised tool for a specific activity. For example, if we want to cut an apple in half, we use a knife instead of using another tool such as a screw driver or even a scissor to cut the apple. Thus, using the right tool for the right occassion is a much sensible idea than just simply using the wrong…

Dear Anon, What you mentioned would depend on a person's belief or religious belief and how strong is one's belief. For example, when you mentioned `killing' of animals, and one has strong buddhist beliefs, then one should avoid what you had mentioned below. Even in other religions like Muslims, they also have a ritual for `praying' before slaughtering animals. Muslims only eat food that are certified "Halal" in this manner. Therefore, it depends on how `strong' is your beliefs. Most of the time, nowadays maybe because of convenience, animals are pre slaughtered and we buy them, cleaned and `ready' so this should not be a major issue or concern for us. Some religions bel…

Dear Linda, Thank you for your words of encouragement:) You should exclude the garage if you are doing a Feng Shui assessement using the Compass School theories such as Flying Star and Eight House which subdivides the various sectors. If you have the time to upload a sketch of your house and indicate the location of the garage, I can help you find the centrepoint of the house. If the file is small, e.g. in .jpg (Jpeg format) you can attach it to this conference or for a larger file, attach it to the conference: "Conference for Attaching Layout". In Feng Shui, under the Compass School, the Flying star theory has two modules: 1. The common Flying Star Chart ana…

Dear Major Sono, 1. For a building, usually (majority of the time), its Feng Shui depends on the entire building. If the building has good " Feng Shui ", based on good shapes and forms and a good open space at the front. If this building has been looked at under a Feng Shui perspective, it is said that it good for the tenants. 2. In your case, (the building) of the house if it already has good Feng Shui properties, and if there is already a water position at the frontage, it is usually not necessary for you to have a water position in your office reception area. 3. As I mentioned in the earlier mail, Shapes and Form Feng Shui is equally important for layout placement. Th…

Dear Tracy, In general, spiral staircases are best to be avoided. However, it also depends on the location. As you have briefly mentioned, that it cannot be seen directly... If it is not seen directly from the main entrance, this is a `plus' point. Overall, the spiral staircase has to be looked at in the context of the whole house and its location in relation to the layout plan. And based on situation. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Coal fire facing north wall

Dear Jacqueline, When one tries to apply the Five Elements concept to a sector of a room, ideally, it should be referenced with the Flying Star Theory. This is because, the Flying Star Theory, uses the five elements to analyse each sector and the ultimate aim here is to create a balance at this sector. Thus it does not matter if your coal fire faces north and postulate whether it takes on `fire' etc... Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Major Sono, 1. Yes, in Feng Shui, one has also to rank the importance of the various concepts and theories. 2. In general, without looking into detail, the layout plan viz-a-viz things like the location of the main entrance, toilet locations, it would be good to have the President's office located at a `solid' location protected behind by e.g. walls ... 3. Thus you are not wrong to say that an office or room should be diagional to the main door. In addition, the placement of the table in relation to shapes and form is best. 4. Only after the above is `satisified' then you see if you have the luxury of facing a good location i.e. `nice to have'. But not compulsory. Wa…

Dear Kuah Huang, You can check out this url:- http://my.geomancy.net/mypictures/cgi-bin/imagefolio.cgi?direct=Feng_Shui_Cures/6_coins In Feng Shui cures, the best remedy is to use 6 ancient Chinese coins with square holes in the center. The 6 coins are tied with a red string. It is usually hung on top of the wall or on the curtain as shown in the picture. For the picture, Singapore $1 coins can be used and placed side-by-side in a 3x2 row on a red packet. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Rasika, Under the Compass School of Feng Shui, 1. Eight House Theory: Under this theory, it is good for a breadwinner to have a good orientation of the main door (suited) to him/her. For a building, the best choice is to have it sited in a good site and enjoy firstly good shapes and form. This will be advantages to everyone occupying the building. 2. Flying Star Theory. The direction of the main entrance door will determine the `birth chart' of the house i.e. the birth chart of the house/building is determined based on its main door direction. 3. Thus, if one uses the ordinary compass to take a reading, it should be taken from the centrepoint of the house/building. A…

Dear Rasika, 1. It is best to follow the `method' provided (totally) from a source and not mix e.g. what one reads from a book and `mix' the methods used in other book or website. 2. For example, in this website, the method used is to follow step-by-step instructions under: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house1.htm or use the free computerised Eight House report. In this website, you get a graphical diagram showing all the eight kua directions and each person's intangible force at e.g. North, South, East, West, NE, NW, SE, SW. Based on this website, you should find the centrepoint of the house and use an ordinary compass. Instructions are at http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilco…

Dear Susan, In Chinese culture, many traditional buildings have e.g. lions guarding the main entrance or other `fierce' creatures placed e.g. on a building. Thus, in my opinion, the "Gargoyles" that you had mentioned, served a similar purpose in some `western' buildings. For the Chinese, it is quite common to find a pair of dragons or a dragon "guarding" each side of the roof. However, this is usually found on temple roofs only. Most homes do not use such figurines. In Feng Shui, if it is a `public' building e.g. Chinese Chamber of Commerce Building or other public buildings that has a traditional touch, would usually place two lions on each side of the main entrance. War…

Dear Elena, In the living room, it is ideal to activate water star than mountain star. Water star, as the name suggests implies clear space and thus, ideally, when one stands around the living room one should have a clear view of all areas of the room. Water star (clear space) is the opposite of mountain star. In addition, some people who are not aware, even may try to activate a mountain star at their front door! Here, it is like placing an `obstruction' at the front entrance. Usually, some portions of the living room has either windows or glass panels and large open area (which suits water star). One can still activate mountain star e.g. a painting in the living room e…

Some of us are familiar with the term "K.I.S.S." applied in other areas. K.I.S.S. refers to " Keep it Simple Stupid ". It is worth remembering that the essence of the above sentence can equally be applied effectively to Feng Shui. After all, it is commonsense and many Feng Shui concepts, theories and ideas are borne out of commonsense. Say "K.I.S.S." the next time:) Warmest Regards, Cecil P.S. I sent you all my " KISSes ":))

Dear Melanie, In my opinion, there is really not much one can do in such a situation. Usually, (but may not be feasible) in your case is the use of false ceiling or a poster bed with cloth covers over the top of the bed. Since this option may not be available, hanging a crystal, may make one `feel good' but thats all it can do. In traditional FS, besides this situation, one uses e.g. the Flying Star to analyse and if there are any imbalances, neutralise it to lessen any effects in the sector. If my bedroom door is north facing into the bedroom and the bed head is facing east what can I do to help my husband sleep ! He has chronic sleep problems. His birthstar is 6Wood (born 1958)and mine is 8 Metal(born 1966). Our room is dark and full of dark furniture - at the foot of the bed is a large dresser(West), a window (south) is directly opposite the door, and another window is at the NE corner. We have a house fan that pulls all the cool night air in but I'm wondering if it's activating too much chi through the bedroom for sleeping. Any thoughts, advice or remedy possibilities. Thanks - I'm so glad I found you ! Lydia

Dear Betsie, Do check out this page: http://www.geomancy.net/polls/ And check out this poll: Are you comfortable sleeping facing a TV set (mirror)? A short simple 3 questions survey. I indicated that there is no right or wrong answers to this. Some of us feel perfectly normal with a mirror in the bedroom (e.g. facing the bed) while others may feel uncomfortable. Do check the feedback from other uses on this. Warmest Regards, Cecil
