  1. Hi ISylvia, Thanks for sharing the information. The site has 2 servers: the main one and a secondary backup & mail server. Sometimes, the main server for some reason or other needs to reset. When it does so; our secondary backup server kicks-in. The backup server forum messages and database is only updated at predetermined period. Thus, messages found on the backup server is seen to be not-updated at all. As such, you may have logged in when the main server is "down" for a short-while and thus, it may seem that the forum messages are not updated. Once the main server goes on-line again; it will "return" to the norm. Hence, it is not an issue. Appreciate very much! Thanks for letting us know. But, it should not be an issue. I am posting this so other users will know why this happens. Warmest Regards Robert Lee
  2. Dear Users, Over the past couple of weeks, have noticed very sluggish performance for the web server and requiring a reboot very frequently. This usually happens for windows server after numerous windows patches and re-patches.And it has been about 2 years since we last did a major server upgrade. So it was time to upgrade the server to refresh the server configuration and also to take advantage of latest server specs. Our website is now powered by Dual Processor Quad Core Westmere 2.4Ghz (16 x CPUs). This is a monster server. One of this monster server is equal to two of our old Harpertown servers. In addition, there will be another server upgraded to be our backup and fall back server. This will be worked on next month. Plus, I also plan to have some software upgrades for some of our key components forum and other sites. Hope you enjoy a faster and smoother website access Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research
  3. Dear Anon, Anonymous wrote: Am thinking of using your service for the chinese name analysis and change but just wondering if your report at the end will give me just 1 recommended name to adopt or a choice of a few names? Our name analysis will do a ba zi review, then analyse the top name strokes for your surname. We will attempt to work out at least 5 top name stroke groups that is suitable to your ba zi. Depending on the character strokes for each group, we will attempt to match out all the names (if possible have good meaning or at least sound nice). All in all we normally will produce about 20-30 names in total for you to see which ones you like. After you eliminate names you cannot use and find the one you like, we will advise you which of the names is most suitable by considering the character shape, character meaning and overall name stroke grouping. Anonymous wrote: Will you also be explaining the rationale behind the recommended name to be changed to in terms of my ba zi/favourable elements? You will see all the details in our analysis. Anything that you do not understand you can simply contact me to clarify your doubts. In general, we usually find choosing a good name is good for a child, since the child will use the name the most during his childhood and school days. Once a person reach adulthood or a certain again. A name change won't likely bring too much of a benefit, so often not recommended unless absolutely necessary. 4. Dear Jen, Jen E. wrote: hello I am wondering on my analysis it states luck will not be on my side till I am 58 . my favourable elements are wood and fire...yet the period that turns into luck for me is water and metal ? so why is this lucky for me?? Firstly, you need to know that the free report only determines your 10-year Big Luck Flow. 10-yearly big luck if with you means that things will tend to be smoother for you, if 10-yearly big luck is not with you it means you have to work even harder for success. In your case, it only shows me that you are an average person (not one of those born with silver spoon very fortunate type person). Your luck is such that you have to work hard early in your life and enjoy life later. That is about all. There is also a 5-yearly medium luck and yearly small luck. Even where 10-yearly big luck is not with you, you can still have 5-yearly or yearly small luck that may favour you from time to time. This is why your luck can swing up and down for every period. Even in good or bad luck period, you can still enjoy some good years depending on whether the year is good for you. This portion does not show which year you is actually good or bad. Secondly, the free report basically determines your basic element. Which in this case is Weak Fire. As a weak fire your favourable element is generally wood/fire element. But what kind of weak Fire are you? Are you weak because you lack both wood and fire. Or are you weak because you lack more wood than fire. Or are you weak because you simply have too much of your unfavourable earth/metal. This portion is determined by the Breakdown of Five Element which is only available in the ba zi premium, as this portion is extremely important in a ba zi analysis. If you lack more Wood, this means Wood is your most favourable followed by Fire element. If you are weak because there is too much Earth/Metal, that usually means your other elements like Water/Wood/Fire may be lacking in general. So even though Water which is an unfavourable to weak fire, may still be good for you if say Water element percentage is 0%. In your case, I checked that you are weak fire because of too much Earth and Metal. Water and Wood is actually quite lacking. So that means that Wood is your most favourable element followed by Fire element. Once you have sufficient of Wood and Fire element, some Water is good for you also even though it is by default your unfavourable element. The ideal is to have 20% of each element. Each element will help to balance out the other elements. So it you need the right proportion of each of the five element in order to balance up your chart. So even if an element is your unfavourable, but if you lack too much of it, it will still create unbalance. So if you do a detailed ba zi analysis, you will find that Wood and fire is your favourable element, but at the same time some Water even though is it your unfavourable element is also good for you. However, as water is still your unfavourable element, you still need to make sure you have sufficient of Wood and Fire before it benefits you. Otherwise, adding water without wood/fire will only weaken you further. So that is probably why some periods which is water actually benefits you as you simply lack it completely which is partially what created the unbalance in your ba zi chart. 5. Dear users, Recently couple of users have feedback that the forum posting does not work properly for other non-Internet Explorer browsers (especially replying to an existing post). This was because the original forum posting was from the original forum software which mainly designed the editing feature just for Internet Explorer support, with limited support for other browsers. We understand that many users now use Firefox or other non-Internet Explorer browsers. So we had worked to find a compatible forum post editing component that will work in most major browsers. (i.e. Firefox/Netscape, Opera, Apple Safari, even Google Chrome.) I am glad to say for now that I the latest forum post, has been tested to work with most of the major browsers:- Internet Explorer Firefox or any mozilla compatible Opera Apple Safari Browser Google Chrome The dynamic editing features for the current version may vary from browsers to browsers, but the most fundamental typing, editing and posting will 100% work fine. However, the two major browsers (Internet Explorer and Firefox) will be able to utilise the full editing features. I have gotten the more powerful license version which promises to be able to all the latest browsers. However, I found it a little slow especially for Internet Explorer and too heavily loaded with graphics. So for time being, am checking with the developer to see if he could fix it and get a it to be less graphic intensive so that it would load faster. The developer has told me that an even newer version that is much faster is on its way. So will be looking out for it. Once I tested it, will update it for all to use. Meanwhile, the current edition should work fine for now. I have also tweaked the posting page to be much more easier and to hide away unnecessary features (such as original post box will only show for replying or editing messages, some added help instructions to guide users etc). So now you no longer need to stick to Internet Explorer browser and still be able to enjoy participating in our forum Hope you find the upgrade useful! 6. Dear Anon, Anonymous wrote: I've used your free auspicious dates report to find a suitable date for moving house. I've attached the report. I'm thinking of 3 Apr 09 which is auspicious for both my husband (1st person) & me (2nd person). However, under the column for clashes, the report shows "yin-shen" & "shen-yin" for my husband. I'm not sure what this means & how does it affect the "auspiciousness" of this day. Appreciate your advice, thanks in advance. The column for clashes will usually show most of the minor clashes or harms that is found between the day and your chart. Usually any major clashes will appear in the main date column. Generally, what is important is for the clash column are:- 1st line represents clash (in red text), 2nd line represents harm (in red text), 3rd line represents punishment (in black text) 4th line represents self punishment (in black text) So 3rd Apr, contains a minor clash (yin-shen) and a minor punishment (shen-yin) for the 1st person. As your ba zi pillars is checked against the day, it is very common to have some pillars that will contains clashes/harms etc. So we normally use this column to check against another auspicious date. Between the two which has the least clash or harm to determine which is the best. For example, if there are two dates that are considered auspicious and very auspicious range, the date that has as little clash/harm is deemed the better of the two. Dates that are classified as Auspicious/Very Auspicious will often be better than Average/Inauspicious/Very Inauspicious. So choose the dates by the Auspicious/Very Auspicious, then followed by the dates with as little clash/harm within the clash column. In any case, these are minor clashes / harms which won't impact the dates too much if the date is already considered suitable for you. As the report does a very detailed analysis, it is very hard to find a date that has absolutely no clashes at all. The more important one to avoid is for example 27 Mar 2009 (Fri) there is a Heavenly Stem (HS) Bad Element with 2nd person, and Earthly Branch Clash and a punishment with the Ox Year. So basically, that is how you should use it. Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research
  7. Quote: I'm not saying that my Zi wei chart is good but it looks like it's still better than looking at my Bazi chart The two concepts are totally different. Ba Zi can reveal your given luck. While Zi Wei Dou Shu Chart is more towards relationship/compatibility analysis/Love related analysis. Often we find the Zi Wei Dou Shu less useful, because the relationship analysis is also affected by your human luck. So the analysis we find is more used as a for "fun" analysis rather than being practical. So they are for different purpose. Quote: Anyway, I guess I cant question the Heaven luck which is pour upon me. I just want to ask about the terms "Wealth luck against you" and "Luck against you": Actually, the main point here is luck is against you. When it mentioned the Wealth luck against you. That period is considered a wealth period for you. A wealth period is often a period where your self element destroys that element period. For a weak person, this period is by default inauspicious as a weak person is not strong enough to control or take advantage of his wealth period. However, if you strengthen your weak element, you can actually benfit from it. For a strong person, this period automatically because a good period for him. That is why a Strong character person, often have this added advantage comapred to a weak character person. So between Luck against you and Wealth Luck against you. Wealth Luck against you is considered a mixed blessing period. You can still benefit from it if you make your weak element strong enough. So between the two I would consider Luck Against you as more inauspicious than Wealth Luck Against you. Wealth luck Against you can still turned in your favour if you make your weak element strong enough to control the wealth. Hope that helps. 8. Anonymous wrote: Hi, I purchased the Bazi premium and am very pleased with it! I have the wood dragon on my pillar of life, what would that signify. In general, you have to look at that pillar in relation to your other ba zi charts. Otherwise, on it's own it does not have any meaning. I checked your account and ba zi report. So far you are a weak Water person. The Life pillar is Wood and Earth element. Wood exhaust your water and Earth destroy your Water. So both are not really favouring you. In additional, there is a self punishment chen, which indicate some internal struggle or conflict. So what this means is that the life pillar isn't so favourable to you. As life pillar is another area to check whether your life is considered a person born with good fortune or a less fortunate chart. This would indicate a chart which is considered a less fortunate chart (ie not born with a silver spoon). And there may be some challenges you may need to over come. As there is a determination deity, it would mean that as long as you are willing to work hard, you can overcome most of your obstacles. On the plus or possitive side, your life chart is blessed with intelligence deity which means that as long as you use your wit, you maybe able to turn the obstacles into opportunities. Furthermore, there is an Arts star which denotes, creativity. Hope that helps. Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research
  9. This is one of the many variations practised by some modern practitioner. For example, a Water person, Fire is the wealth element So for your case if you are a Wood person, then Earth element is your wealth element. Thanks. birthday: january 12, 1978 / 02:05 p.m mail (man) Frankly, depending on whether the ba zi report is done in lunar or solar calendar as well as the detail and depth of the analysis. Different masters even using the same concept can give different birth element strength. I have written a detailed article about the various ba zi difference in this link:- URL: http://bazifaq.geomancy.net As far as our website is concern, you will be determined as weak yang Wood Snake. As our free report isn't crippled in anyway, the analysis takes into full consideration all the necessary combinations / clashes and percentage of your element strength before coming to this result. This means that even if you get us to do a paid analysis, you will still be a weak yang Wood Snake. Only difference is the free report does not reveal to you the exact percentage. If you read the bazifaq link above, you will see there are many examples where we show you how our free report we determine the element strength, through mathematical formula. Just that we do not show you the ba zi percentage breakdown in the free report. http://online.geomancy.net/public/code/html-fs-self-free?pay=0&tpl=chart_true_element&username=&gender=1&day=12&month=01&year=1978&hour=8 Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research
  12. Dear Anon, Anonymous wrote: could you please clarify me following reading. Does it mean, that I'll have bad luck practically my whole life? The free report only shows you big 10-yearly luck. A person's luckcan be further divided into 10-yearly/5-yearly/yearly/6-monthly/monthly/daily luck. Of which the 3 more important luck we like to call as:- Big 10-yearly luck Medium 5-yearly luck Small Yearly Luck So the free report only shows you your big luck and basically tells me that your chart is an average day to day person chart where you have to work even harder on your ownfor your success as big luck is not your side. However, even where big luck is against you, there will still be 5-yearly/yearly luck that favours you from time to time. But of course those medium and small luck won't be as good ashaving big luck on your side. Those with good fortune of having big luck with them most of the time are charts we consider as a born with extreme good fortune. So as far as this analysis is consdered, you do not belong to that group. That is about all. Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research

  14. Dear Users, It has been a busy year for us in 2008. There has been many changes made to the website. Some changes should be noticed by users, while some are backend changes that may not be so easily noticed by users. We usually like to keep a record of changes to be added to our milestones. 1) One of the most popular changes would be the release of an updatedDaily Chinese Horoscope & Ba Zi Forecast:- URL: http://daily.geomancy.net We noticed many users bookmarking this forecast for your daily use 2) With the Daily Forecast, we also introduced an updated Yearly Forecast Layout for 2009 and upto 2013:- URL: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/yearly-forecast/yearly-forecast.htm Again, we noticed that users were extremely pleased with the improved layout and highly detailed breakdown for all the different horoscope 3) With the introduction of the forecast, we had also made backend improves to the many advanced reports (which is not accessable through our online member reports). We do have some improvements planned for the Ba Zi Premium users in time to come. So look out for more on this in future updates. 4) We even launched a new wiki.geomancy.net feature to make it easy for Cecil to collate all the useful resources into one single area. URL: http://wiki.geomancy.net 5) Due to so many postings on the forum since 1996, we found that our default search sometimes cannot find the right resources asit sorts more by the date of the post. As such, we had replaced it with the Google SiteSearch which we find able to find the correct site resources that you are looking for. This is possible because our website is extensively indexed by Google, and that makes finding the correct resources easier with the powerful search algorithm. 6) Access to our member area and personalised report area is now enabled torequire SSL encryption security. This is to provide additional security and privacy to our members. Although, this feature was already available many years back. We did not enforce it as the report generate especially for complex report would slow downsignificantly. However, due to our recent dual harpertown server upgrade last year, we found that the reports would not slow down as much as it did in the past.As such, decided to enforcemake SSLlogin a requirement for all member area. URL: https://www.geomancy.net/members/members-login/members-login-secure.htm 7) eNETS Credit Card Payment Gateway since Nov 2008, need to be upgraded. We had been working on it and the new and improved gateway should be made available by end Jan 2009. The live transaction is scheduled to be ready on 19 Jan 2009 but it will take us a few days to test and make sure the integration is 100% ready before we enable it back to users to make use. For the time being, users could still make payment via paypal.com our alternative payment gateway. 8) Server Date and Time has been changed to GMT +0800 (Singapore Time), rather than the default US server time. This is so that we no longer need to apply GMT time changes to any of our online reports. Also, this will make forum/email date and time correspond more correctly to our local time, rather than to the local time of where our server is hosted. 9) Recently, we have been using Firefox/Google Chrome/Safari browser much more than we normally do. As we were using these alternative browsers, we detected some html page formatting differences when viewed in these browsers. As I see these formatting differences, I try to fix them so that they will be viewed as correctly as it would be when you use the Internet Explorer. 10) We also constantly upgrade our server software. This is to ensure we have the latest server technology to make sure the website can support the latest technology. We also constantly make sure our website is optimised properly so that it takes a little time for the server to generate the page. This will ensure that server can handle lots of traffic at any single moment. So far wehave yet to see the server slow down even with the increased traffic. Although we have not posted much website announcements. There has been quite a lot of enhancements made overthe year. These are just some of the milestone upgrades that we want to keep track for the year. Wishing all users a Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year! Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research

Dear Aloysius, Aloysius C. wrote: Whatlevel of % impact does the annual analysis for zodiacs (Chinese Horoscope Predictions)has on an individual as having some though that there are millions of people born under the same zodiac animal. Could they be having the same fate. General, yearly forecast on chinese horoscope are always general. Basic horoscope forecast will normally contain 12 horoscope signs. You can go deeper into the analysis if you combine it with your ba zi. Such as our yearly horoscope which combines the horoscope and ba zi together. So this means that within each horoscope sign, there can be further division into weak/strong plus the five different elements. So this will be at least slightly better than basic horoscope. http://www.geomancy.net/resources/yearly-forecast/fortunes-2009.htm If you want a detailed personalised one, then it has to be a personalised horoscope or ba zi based on your date and time of birth. Your personalised horoscope/ba zi will be more accurate than general yearly forecast. So you normally should just use the yearly horoscope just as a basic guide. 19. Dear Anon, What this means is that:- 1) Your favourable elements are:- a) Fire (4%) b) Earth (4%) Both are equally lacking, so both are good for you. 2) Your unfavourable elements are:- Wood (45%) - Too much so much reduce or avoid Water (45%) - Too much so much reduce or avoid Metal (0%) - Although, this is your unfavourable, but having too little is also no good. So some metal when you have sufficient of Fire+Earth will help you attain perfect harmony of 20% of each element. However, this element is still bad for you, so until you have enough of Fire+Earth, adding metal without Fire+Earth will still weaken you. So basically, you need to first add Fire and Earth which are to strengthen you. After you have sufficient of Fire and Earth, some Metal will help to destory the excess Wood. The goal is to have 20% of each element to be in perfect harmony, so you need some of each element. But not too much or too little. Having too much or too little of one elemene vs another is what caused the unbalanced state. It is impossible to tell how things around you will impact your percentage value. So you just need to follow the advise of adding Fire+Earth first. When you have sufficient of that then some Metal will benefit you. How you do this is for example, say in your career. If you are Sales (Fire). Say your job also handles some Accounting (Metal). Your carer would be Fire+Metal, which will be one way to add the metal while making sure you have sufficient Fire to boost your luck first. Hope that helps. 21. Dear Rachel, Actually, that is not really contradicting at all. The balance of five element is for you to fine tune your favourable and unfavourable elements. You should simply just proritise the favourable elements in to the different percentage. For example, a strong water, favourable arewood (0%) / fire (26%) / earth (5%). This simply means that:- Wood (0%) is the most favourable Earth (5%) is the 2nd most favourable Fire (26%) is the least favourable as there is already more than sufficient. Same goes for the unfavourable element. For example Metal (50%) and Water (5%). Metal (50%) would be most unfavourable (so should avoid) Water (5%) would be the least unfavourable (some water when there is sufficient wood/earth/fire would be good for a perfect harmony) So the balance of the five element is meant for you to determine which element you need more and which you need lesser. Ultimately, your favourable elements will still be good for you. Only that, the element you lack mostmay be more effective then the element you have more than sufficient. Quote: For my son (born 23rd August 2008), it says he's weak wood andfavourable elements arewater and wood, unfavourable elements are fire and metal. However in his Balance of Elements Chart, it says his fire elementis 0% and needs to be increased. His water element is 26% and is Acceptable (Reduce Element). Your son is a weak Wood, so by default if you do not know your five element percentage, water and wood are generally his favourable while fire and metal is his unfavourable element. The ideal is to have exactly 20% of each element to be in perfect harmony. However, in reality, your five element percentage is often unbalanced, with some percentage being more or some being less. This is where the balance of the five elements will help you decide which is the more elements is most favourable or unfavourable for you. As a weak Wood, either water / wood will benefit a weak wood. However, as your son already have 26% water, this means that the element he has sufficient of water. And thus, wood would be likely his more favourable element compared to water. As for the unfavourable, fire and metal will make a weak wood weaker. There will again be one unfavourable which is too much making it the most unfavourable, while the other is your least unfavourable. In this case, your son's fire is 0% which means this is likely the least unfavourable element. Some Fire when you have sufficient wood/water to boost your son'sweak Wood is actually beneficial for him. However, you can only add fire after you have strengthen his weak wood, otherwise, it will make him weaker. Quote: For my eldest daughter (born 19th October 2002), it says she's strong metal and favourable elements are water and fire. Yet in her Balance of Elements Chart, it says her fire element is 21% (Balance)and doesn't need to be increased or reduced. Is Fire still a favourable element for her, then?? Or should she just not have too many red things around her anymore? It says her Wood Element is 0% and needs increasing, so does that mean she should have more wood element stuff around her?? Same goes for your daugther. As s Strong metal, her favourable elements normally are water/fire. There is sufficient fire (21%), so this will make it her least favourable element, while water is likely to be her most favourable element. The percentage will help you determine which elements a person requires more or less. So this means that by default whether you add water or fire, you will strengthen the strong metal. However, the element you lack most will of course be the most effective. Same goes for the unfavourable elements. The element that is too little will mean that adding some will still be good, but only when you have sufficient of your favourable elements. Otherwise, by default your unfavourable elements will still be unfavourable to you. So this means that though fire is still her unfavourable elements, she already have sufficient of it, so adding more fire won't be as effective as adding more water. For a Strong Metal,Wood is her wealth element which will still be her favourable element. Since she lacks 0% this means this is one of the most favourable elements for her. MANY VARIATIONS IN THE SAME CONCEPTS HOW DIFFERENT CALENDAR SYSTEM AFFECTS THE BA ZI CHART B) BA ZI WITH FULL SEASONAL CALENDAR (XIA/H'SIA) A ba zi chart done with Full Seasonal (Xia) Calendar will look like this:- C) BA ZI WITH MIXED LUNAR & SEASONAL (XIA) CALENDAR A ba zi chart done with mixed Lunar & Seasonal (Xia) Calendar will look like this:- Essentially, utilizing either a) Ba Zi with Full Chinese Lunar Calendar or b) Ba Zi with Full Seasonal (Xia) Calendar is considered accurate since they both adhere to a single calendar format for the entire chart. On the other hand, c) Ba Zi with mixed lunar & seasonal Calendar is deemed incorrect. Some websites incorrectly generate the Ba zi with Mixed Lunar Calendar & Seasonal (Xia) Calendar. It is incorrect to mix the calendar formats.. Comparing an Apple to an Orange is not a fair comparison. It is quite challenging to create a chart that displays the day and year in the Lunar calendar while also showing the month in the Seasonal (Xia) Calendar. Geomancy.net adopts the Lunar Calendar and utilizes the Xia Calendar only when it is deemed necessary for specific purposes. However, should you be using the Seasonal (Xia) Calendar for the same date 16 Jan 2009. Using GMT time zone is a bad way to apply the location factor, because GMT time zone only affects the longitude changes. Furthermore, GMT has been simplified so much so it is no longer as accurate as in the past. 4. Our stand on this issue is NOT to add these level of complication to the analysis. Meaning that you should just use your local time (regardless of what country), to analyse the Ba Zi. This is because if you truly understand how the Ba Zi works, the HOUR pillar will not make a major impact in terms of the 10-yearly, 5-yearly, yearly and monthly luck pillars. The hour pillar gives additional pillars available for combinations and clashes, so this can affect the final outcome of a person to be either weak or strong. A day without the hour will give the rough element strength of the day. Only a few hours may result in weak/strong element. Otherwise, not much change will occur. Your luck pillars will not be too badly influenced by the hour impact. Except for minor yearly and chart clash or harms that may occur. But these are minor as your general luck will not alter too much. 5. This is why we can still analyse a person luck fairly well even if you do not provide the hour pillar. Just check out some of the masters who had done case study of famous people, you will noticed that they do it just with the date of birth. They don't even apply any location factor. Ba zi has designed to compensate from the lack of the hour pillar. So with or without the hour of birth, a person's chart can still be charted out. Just that with the hour pillar, your forecast will be more accurate. 6. This is why we find no need to apply location into the Ba Zi. Just use your local time and it should be okay. 7. You must always remember that a Ba Zi is supposed to be a heavenly GIVEN chart of what kind of luck you are supposed to have assuming your environment remains constant. This means it does not consider education, your house (earth luck), people around you, your career etc. However, in real life, how can you expect your environment to be the same all the time. Your luck is always being altered by your house luck, people around you, and your career. Let me give you some example:- 8. Ba Zi is not a tool that can predict all past events with complete accuracy. Instead, it can offer insights into potential challenges, enabling you to enhance your fortune by steering clear of unfavorable periods. Some contemporary practitioners may lead you to believe that Ba Zi can provide precise evaluations of your past and future experiences. However, this contradicts the fundamental purpose of the concept, which is to offer guidance on your innate luck. 9. Our recommendation to you is to simply keep the hour unknown or unchanged as it is not required. Read more from this link:- URL: Born which year and what was the changed time? LOL-:) "Singapore has changed time zones 6 times since 1905. From 1933 to 1941, we moved our clocks forward 20 minutes for daylight savings, but then changed it to 30 minutes. During the Japanese occupation in World War II, our clocks were synced with Tokyo, to become 1 hour and 30 minutes ahead of the previous time zone. The most recent switch was in 1982, when our clocks were synchronised with neighbouring Malaysia." 23. Dear MJ, MJ H. wrote: I bought a Bazi book weeks back and according to it, the birth time after 11pm to 12amis Night Rat Hour (Wan Zi shi). And if the Day is a Yi Wood day, the Hour pillar should beWu Zibut your calculator I utilised gave the time pillar as Bing Zi which is the Early Rat Hour(Zao Zi shi)- 12am to 1 am-for a Yi Wood day. MJ H. wrote: Could you kindly assist in soving the difference? This is one of the many variations in different concepts available in Feng Shui by different practitioner/masters. One chinese hour by default is actually Two (2) western hours. Rat hour happens tovspan between 11-11.59pm and 12am-12.59am. So some modern practitioners, believe it should be broken up into Late Rat and Early Rat. And therefore, they added a modification to the original concept, believing this will solve the late/morning rat. However, we find this to be a flawed concept. The reason is because lets take 14/15 Nov 2008 as an example:- a) 14 Nov 12am-12.59am is already considered the early morning of the 14 Nov. b) 14 Nov 11pm-11.59pm is already considered the late evening of the 14 Nov. c) 15 Nov 12am-12.59am is the early morning of the 15 Nov. d) 15 Nov 11pm-11.59pm is the late evening of the 15 Nov. The confusion here is that when we talk about 11pm-1am, it crosses between b) and c), so the reason why the modern practitioner feels there is a need to break it to early morning and late morning, is because they are refering to b) and c). But don't forget, the day is already a new day for c). The Early / Late Hour is already being considered as you should be refering to a) and b) and c) and d). Meaning the day has to be of the same day. Those that apply this concept, forgot, that the day is already broken up to the early and late zi. So there is really no need to further modify the concept. We must always focus that the Rat hour spans between two dates. But the correct way of assessing that Hour,is the hour represents the time of the day for the same day:- a) 14 Nov 12am-12.59am is already considered the early morning of the 14 Nov. b) 14 Nov 11pm-11.59pm is already considered the late evening of the 14 Nov. If you do it that way, it is exactly the same as what the modern practitioners did of breaking the hour into early or late morning. But they are only applying a 2nd division if you do so. Thus, we find it a very flawed variation in the ba zi concept. Furthermore, by further breaking the hour into Early/Late Rat, instead of having 12 equally divided chinese hours, you now have 11 equally divided chinese hours and 1 chinese hour that is specially broken down into 1/2 a chinese hour. This actually will break the original concept of the ba zi which is based on the 12 earthly branch and 10 heavenly stem. So technically, this is incorrect and will only break the cycle of the 12 hours that ba zi was originally designed for. Thus, it is not recommended to do so. In fact there are a lot of varations for even the same concept. As a newbie to feng shui, you can easily get confused if you do not understand the reason behind it. For this reason, I have recently added a Ba Zi FAQ that hopes to cover most of the common questions about the Ba Zi. URL: http://forum.geomancy.net/phpforum/article.php?bid=2&fid=2&mid=23906&new= Almost, all our concepts that is available on our website has been carefully reviewed. We had also already done a lot of pros and cons evaluations of the various variations in the differentconcepts. Thus, the tools we have on our website is based on best practices and most technically correct. So the tools will work properly together to give the best overall analysis. There is often no need to make any further modification to any results from our website. Warmest Regards Robert Lee GEOMANCY.NET - Center for Applied Feng Shui Research
