The main purpose of Feng Shui is to deflect beneificial qi (or air movement) to allow it to meander and circulate within the house.
Often a Shapes and Form practitioner will `mentally' look at this flow. And it would be good that such qi or air can slower meander within or circulate within the confines of corners especially in the living dining (since most houses have both `connected' together).
It is an advantage that qi can (especially) if a partition added, help to `move' qi thru the centre flux towards other rooms (for a rectangular layout) and vice versa.
The best solution therefore is:
1. To use a screen or partition which should preferably cover at least up to the door height or higher towards the ceiling.
2. It has to be `air-tight' and not pigeon holes that allow air to leak.
3. This partition should not have a shoe rack store at it's base.
4. It should preferably be of an auspicious dimension proportionate to the size of the living room.
5. It should be position such that it can `properly' subdivide say the living room into a distinct rectangle and if the dining room is also in this area, both the living and dining room; after the placement of the partition - can be seen as two distinct rectangles. Since the rectange shape is particularly good for an `L' shaped living cum dining room.
CAUTION:
6. Avoid placing the partition too close to the main door. If so, it is symbolic of having a `burden' or a mountain at the main entrance area. Where one just enters the house, `hits one's head' against a wall.
7. Avoid half a screen where when one enters thru the main door, half side is a screen, the other half is a void. If such a partition is used, and if the partition is within 1 metre (approximately 3 feet) of the door, it should preferably be full width as the door.
8. In such a situation, it is preferred that part of the upper half is made of glass, to allow light (or light qi or natural light) to flow thru it. Else often because of the partition, the main door / entrance area can become too dark.
6. The last resort is to close the side of the window / balcony sliding door so that qi cannot flow directly out of the main door. But here, there is still some leak or a factor of -5 to -10 negative marks for the house/apartment Feng Shui.
Thus if say the overall house Feng Shui marks is 58 marks out of 100, deduct say 10 marks and the house Feng Shui now becomes 48 marks or a failing mark.
This type of leak combined with other leaks in the house can contribute to finance leak. At the best is - often one cannot save a single cent to always having negative cash flow.
Anything else, even the use of a symbolic hulu or bottle gourd is often considered as a sugar coated pill remedy.
This `sugar coated' pill remedy is what I often call "Man Luck" or "Human Luck" - "Feng Shui". To make the person feel good that's all that the leak is supposely fixed.
But, come 6 months or 1 year later, if one finds no result, it is like the concept of `Tom' robbing `Dic' to pay `Paul'.
Often, if one reads messages in a forum, by such Man Luck practitioners, one thus often hear of messages posted: " I tried what you had asked e.g. buying gold for my wealth corner" but did not work? Have I done it right?
And often, the Man Luck practitione will take advantage of this situation and say, please contact me or make an appointment for me to do another audit for you.
We can often use `Man Luck' as an excuse, some of the time, but, this is not the correct approach.QuoteAnd, my sleeping position

It is "nice-to-have" a sleeping position that faces West. But if one cannot do so, than, try to see if we are sleeping in one of our auspicious sectors.
If this is not possible, then don't try to squeeze out anymore of the Eight House Theory.
It is meant to let us have a flavour. (Full Stop).
This is why I often, request new users to know the Purpose of each concept, their strengths and weakness.
Let us not ponder over something which it is near impossible to change. If one owns or even lease this house for some period, the only RESORT in applying this theory is to move out.
Impossible to do so? Then, (Full Stop with the Eight House). Try to bring up our luck in other areas. For example, try to harmonize the room or house colours to our ba zi and each family member's ba zi.
Let's not cry over it. This is often our Key failure. We can hope and dream. But, this is not effective.

Dear Emily,
1. The Five element concept has what is known as the binding element.
2. For example even if say two person who seems incompatible e.g. Strong Water vs Strong Water, there is always a binding element can help bind both.
In the above example, the binding element for a Strong Water vs Strong Water person is = wood.
3. Therefore, when doing renovations especially in the couple's bedroom, the binding element is wood (brown or green).
4. There is a free report under http://www.geomancy-online.com known as " Comparison Report. This report can help find the binding element based on examples such as the above.
5. In fact, what is mentioned and many, many other concerns we have today is infact thought out by our forefathers.
6. The destructive cycle results in what is also known as "wealth production"
6.1 Some clashes, can alternatively result in wealth.
6.2 For example, a Strong Water's person's wealth is Fire element (especially if the partner is a Strong Fire.
6.3 Although this looks like a `bad clash' but under the Five Elements concept, for example, a husband who is a Strong Water has a wife that is his wealth element (fire). And good for his career.
7. Under Ba Zi, there is what is known as a double and triple combination `clash'.
7.1 Some of these clashes are very favourable. For example, a person could have been considered a weak water person:
7.2 And in his ba zi chart, he has favourable "clashes". For example, his chart has some heavenly and earthly branch that can help his `weak water' example his chart has earth that produces metal that aids his weak water.
7.3 In this very rough analysis, because of this combination, instead of being a weak water, he now becomes a Strong Water person.
7.4 Being strong, allowed him to take advantage of `fire' element which is his wealth element.
8. Given this rough example, I hope one can better understand that like Yin and Yang, clashes can be good or bad.
9. In fact, many of the questions that we modern humans have asked, has been explored deeply by the ancient Chinese.
10. And there should not be any surprises nor someone coming up with modern answers to this.
11. Search hard enough and almost all questions can be answered.

Frankly, too many ba gua mirror is an overkill.
As mentioned in the earlier e-mail, sometimes, many of us like to hear `nice' things.
Often, these are more of Ren Cai or man or human luck. It may make us feel good (perhaps a short while) but when it does not work - who do we blame?
This is why, many Feng Shui practitioners are often act more like `counsellors' than Feng Shui practitioners.
Often, this is a psychological thing. For example, often after every of my audit, the client (Chinese) would ask : where is my `wealth corner'.
I can understand that it would certainly make one feel nice to have such a corner or that such a corner existed. And some practitioners even go so far as advise their clients to place e.g. coins or daily place coins at `X' marks the spot.
For the truly rich, they don't have time to do this. Furthermore, for the rich, every since inch of their house is lavishly decorated either quality furniture or selected decorative pieces. And even their bathroom accessories may be gold / gold plated.
Therefore, how true is the maxim: the poor gets poorer ...

The key success factor here are:
1. Feng Shui or Earth Luck
It is best to harmonize the bedroom to suit one's Ba Zi.
For a married couple then go for the `binding' element (Do a SEARCH in this forum for the term: binding )
2. What is Metal element:
Metal element is white or gold. On a personal level, this can be the clothing or object e.g. some gold items e.g. jewellery or a chain.

1. It is difficult to give a general comment as to whether firstly:
1.1. A perceived threat is truly a threat
1.2 Even if it is a threat: often such a threat cannot be neutralised unless that specific threat e.g. is torn down.
In all my messages, I often do not want to give false hope. It is akin to giving the party a sugar coated pill. It may perhaps sounds good but often in-effective. Especially for things like `penetrating' and other types of sha qi.
1.3 Frankly, it is therefore, very difficult here to pose a few lines of questions and a standard `stereo' type answer appears.
2. Overall, such specific case demands a full audit to access the situation both external and internal as well as how well the family members (in particular) the breadwinner `fit' the home.

1. It is best not to let the fish tank face the main door i.e. when one opens the main door, try not to have it face this door.
2. The most effective (Key sucess factor) is to use the Flying Star Feng Shui. A good location is where there is e.g. #7 small metal x 2 (metal element) or #6 big metal.
Under the Five Elements Concept, metal supports water. And thus, it is advantages for a water position.
3. For those who are staying in an apartment: one actually (should) have already virtual water (clear space). And often water position is not necessary.

3. Why not do a search for NE or devil's gate - instead of posting the question below? I am sure, you can get the answers.

1. From past experience, usually if the toilet is exactly at the centrepoint, this is already one handicap of the home.
2. From what you had described; the toilet does not seem to be located at the centrepoint. Which seems promisingly OK.
3. However, usually it takes two or more major handicaps in the house to bring down the Feng Shui of a house. Often, these are finance/career related problems and subsequently cumulate to other problems e.g. heath, marriage etc...
4. I always emphasise that the `saving' factor is the external shapes and forms of the house and for the interior: good shapes and forms.
5. Often, simple things like qi flowing from the main entrance directly out in a straight line is a leak. So is a toilet next to the main door. And a combination of these factors will bring down the Feng Shui especially when one stays in this house for more than 1 year. And will continously become worse-off.

It boils down to the following:-
1. Please note that `24 Ba Zhi Feng Shui Direction ' is not the correct term.
2. As Ba Zi or Pillars of Destiny or Eight Characters cannot be used in conjunction with the above statement.
3. Instead, if the above term is used, then Ba Zi should be replaced by Xuan Kong Feng Shui or Flying Star Feng Shui or known as `24 directions/mountains Flying Star (Xuan Kong) Feng Shui.
4. I like to re-inforce the point that questions that you have posted can be answered by the three step-approach.
Step 1: What is the purpose? Of Flying Star FS. What is the purpose of Eight House.
Here, knowing this one can easily find out Flying Star vs Eight House.
Step 2: What are it's strengths (Flying Star vs Eight House)
Step 3: What are it's weakness (Eight House).
5. In fact, if one does a SEARCH in this forum, one can easily find the anwers. And this question is nothing new.
6. Therefore, I suggest that you do make use of the past resources in this forum to find out the exact reasons. CLUE: There are already at least 300 questions related to this in the free advise forum.

BA GUA MIRROR WAR
Unfortunately, this is a lose-lose situation.
It would have been best if (earlier) you did not place a convex ba gua mirror. By doing so, it would be a `natural thing' for your neighbour to place another mirror to deflect your mirror.
In fact, now it is the opposite situation: instead of (you) first putting up a Ba gua mirror, now your convex is now instead used to deflect the ba gua.
Anyway, as mentioned earlier, this is a lose-lose situation on both sides.
Perhaps, at a later stage, (since) you were the first to place it up, see if u can swallow your pride and speak to the neighbour to see if both sides can remove it. (If you can).

If one is applying Feng Shui, the basis of choosing colours to paint is based on one's ba zi (favourable) and if the house is owned by husband/wife, then especially for the bedroom and living room area, the binding element plus which sector the room is at can affect the consideration for the colours.QuoteMay I know what information

1. If it is aimed at the main door then, since this is quite an imposing threat: a ba gua mirror can help.
2. If it is aimed thru windows: if it is not seen it no longer becomes a threat.
3. Otherwse, if the threat (as described) is such an imposing threat on your surrounding, such as the pincer like shape building, and if one has stayed in especially for 2 or more years and find relatively no progress e.g. in finance or career, then honestly, this is a structural thing and in the long term, it would be good to consider selling it away.
4. In the meantime, facing such a threat, one can help to boost up the interior e.g. by matching the home especially colour scheme with one's ba zi. This is not the best decision thou. And look into the shapes and forms.
5. For external factors, we cannot simply use an eraser to erase the building. It will still be there (always) unless it has been demolised - which is never the case.

Dear All,
It is a common practise for some Chinese to place a red banner above their main door.
The banner (please see a sample in the attached upload) can often have auspicious wordings or simply a plan red banner with tassels at each end.
Red symbolises prosperity for the Chinese.
In Singapore, nowadays, roughly 1 or 2 out of 10 households hand either a red banner and/or two red lanterns on each side of the main door - for luck.
Often, depending on sunlight filtering into the house, some households may change it either yearly or (half-yearly) depending on it's condition.
But for sure, before each Lunar New Year, the old one removed and a new banner will surely adorn above the main door - to start a new and prosperous new year.

Further to what I had mentioned:
1. Usually, the cure applied to a Flying Star sector is to neutralise it.
2. As you have correctly mentioned, a bedroom should be harmonised to the bread winner.
3. For example, if one is a a Strong Water person, make sure that the Flying Star sector is in balance.
If the Flying Star sector is out of balance e.g. #5 with #2 and #3, then it is preferred to use a metal cure. This metal cure is used to try to neutralise the bad sector. And often, it is not meant to affect say a Strong Water person.
But, if a sector has too much metal e.g. #6 and #7 with say #8 and year star is only #2 or #3 etc... Since there is already a #6 (big metal) - one should not introduce further metal `cure'. As there is no need for additional metal.
If this is the case, this additional metal may spill over to a person with e.g. Strong Water element.
Therefore, there is a difference between trying to balance a bad Flying Star sector and an over-kill of adding too much other elements even metal element. We should therefore not overeat Feng Shui.
For a strong Water person, after we had taken care of the Flying Star imbalance if any at a sector, we can also look at how to harmonise the room to this person.
Ideally since this is a strong water person, the best element to help him/her is to use wood to absorb his strong water.
But again, if this is at East (Period 7) most of the time there may be bad earth #5. And as mentioned in an earlier message:
Wood helps fuel Fire which helps fuel Earth.
If we inadvertently paint this room e.g. light green (wood) and add red curtains, we would instead help fuel more bad #2.
In such a situtation, even if wood (green/brown) is favourable to this person; we either remove the Fire element or have not choice but to paint it in a neutral (white) metal element colour.

13. Wood is OK if we do not add Fire element in the equation else the equation becomes:
Wood -> Fire -> Earth
and in turn, more wood wood fuel more fire and create more earth. If the earth happens to be real bad #5 and #2 these are misfortune/sickness stars.
14. Furthermore, wood itself have two bad wood elements #3 and #4 and chances are, they may fly into a specific sector at some time be it in a specific month/day/hour/minute.

18. Often, when something can be used as a cure, we often see the commercial side of it. And someone would be clever to exploit it without - looking at the circumstances.
19. For example, if it is mentioned that a wooden wind chime can be used in Feng Shui for a specific purpose, it may in the next few months be exploited as another " Feng Shui " cure all.
20. Metal is most of the time, therefore, a better bet, given such a large audience listening into the forum. And if possible, miscommunication should be reduced.

Please take it down immeidately!
This is because of the combination of #6 (big or strong metal) with #8 (water star).
This #6 already fuels #8 or metal produces #8. By adding your additional 6 coins, this becomes a vicious cycle of creating more water. Or as you have found out, can lead to `water related' problems.
Perhaps, can you describe what elements are already in your room:
a. wardrope colour
b. wall colour
c. often used bed sheet colour
d. curtain colour.
Currently the 6 coins can be detrimental because effectively, you most likely have a three combination flow where:
Metal -> Water -> Wood
and when you add 6 metal again, this is another continous cycle of:-
Metal -> Water -> Wood
(white/gold) -> (blue/black/gray) -> green/brown
In such a special circumstances especially since there is a #8 (water in the middle), try not to further fuel Water with metal.
If this is not a period 7 house and not at East or South, another method to smoothen the flow is to add all five elements:
Add earth (yellow/beige/cream) and fire (pink purple or red) to give this a full five element productive flow of:-
metal -> water -> wood -> fire -> earth
But doing so, avoid fueling addition metal into this equation else there will be an imbalance and this would create a imbalance of too much water which will fuel wood.

1. The large tree outside is still considered a threat to your main door. See if you can use a ba gua mirror above the main door to deflect it.
2. Water position:
2.1 I do hope that the water position is not on the same wall as the stove. As this is inauspicious.
2.2 In addition, if you are a weak fire or a strong water person, then it is considered very unfavourable to have a water position inside your home.
2.3 If the current water position location has bad stars such as #3 or #4 (both bad wood stars) or a combination;
2.4 Then under the productive sequence of Five elements concept: Water helps wood (in this case bad wood).
2.5 It is not ideal to for the two toilets but this can be considered a minor handicap - not major thou.
2.6 The front door opens thru a narrow passage and ultimately goes straight out towards the living room area.
3. Leak zone
Please refer to markings `A', `B', `C', `D', `E' and `F' on the attached layout plan.
There is a leak zone from B to C. Although, if there is a closed window or a wall at B, some leak will occur along the B to C range.
This will often result in financial (leak).
Depending on where the windows are, if the windows are between markings E to F, this is the best. But if there are windows along B, C or D, then it is best to open those at C to D (provided this is not a wall).

In general, a ba gua or ba gua mirror should not be used inside a home. It is used facing out of a home.
Try to check out a set of resources that I had posted last year under Photo Tours of Interest (with pictures).
Under this link one can find the various types of Ba Gua mirror(s).
Some have a Kirin figure, while some have a set of door gods on it.
In many of such instances, the Ba Gua mirror is used for two reasons:
1. to ward-off evil and or
