  1. Dear All,
    1. Attached please find another sample of the pie-chart method.
    2. Under this example, one can clearly see each sector is `labelled' showing the sector of influence.
    3. Overall, I personally prefer to apply the `pie-chart' method over the 9-grid method.
    4. For example, one can even prepare a pie-chart frame and print it on a transparency. And this transparency can be placed on-top of say an A4 sized layout plan. - Very effective!
    Warmest Regards,
    Cecil

  2. Dear Kelvin,
    1. There are two methods:-
The `9-grid' that you had mentioned or a `pie-chart' method.
    2. For your case, it is much easier to apply the pie-chart method.
    3. In the attached illustration:
3.1 At the East cardinal compass direction, the sector for the pie-chart at East (E) should be as shown:
Where blue coloured X to Z is = (equal) to Z to Y. And the exact compass direction at East (E) is at the mid-point of the pie.
    Warmest Regards,

  3. Dear Anon,
Can I clarify the following points:
    1. The neighbour's mirror - facing your property: Is there perhaps a lone tree growing in your compound that seems to slice thru the window or second floor of your neighbour? Or alternatively, is there a private street lamp within your compound that slices into the second floor window of your neighbour?
    2. When you stand at the main entrance, looking outside; can you see the mirror?

    Dear Master Cecil:
    Thank you for your concern
about my problem with my next
    door neighbor's mirror.
The mirror is "at most" 7.5
inches in width and 3 inches
    in length with flat surface.
    My next door neighbor leans
    this mirror against their
    second floor window, which
faces the right hand side of
my house. I am able to see
this mirror when I walk out of
    my house. Their second floor
window is at least 5 metres
(more than 17 feet) away from
    the side of my house.
    To answer your questions. No,
there is no altar in my house
    and there is no poison arrow;
    i.e. an arrow-head signage or
    main door with arrow-head
grille gate, coming out of my
    house or aiming towards my
    neighbor.
My next door neighbor is a
    less educated household in our
    housing community known for
    violating all kinds of rules
    and regulations. I am on
    "no-speaking" term with them.
Is this mirror a threat to the
    Feng Shui of my house?
    Would a convex mirror be
    useful to disperse the effect
    of this flat surface mirror?
Of course, if I put a convex
    mirror anywhere outside of my
house, my mirror would be at
least 5 metres away from their
    house (the same as their
mirror is at least 5 metres
    away from my house).
Does the size of a flat
    surface or a convex mirror
matter in the context of Feng
    Shui?

  4. Dear All,

Several correspondence between 5/14/2002 to 5/22/2002.
In the above correspondence, I had attached some illustrative sketches on cul de sac and possible `cures'.

  5. Dear Emily,
    1. If you have a sketch, feel free to upload to the forum for confirmation.
    2. Often, this is not a major issue since most (former 3-room flats) have their toilets at the `back' of the house) - Usually one attached to the master and the second toilet sharing the same wall and close-by.
    3. 4 sets of such toilets does not necessary mean that it is inauspicious.
    4. Often, the benefit of the older HDB flats are that it is mostly rectangular - a good shapes and form. As well as the exterior of he building is a `stable' earth element shape.

  7. Dear Ceci,
Yes, nowadays, many of such clocks such as the Seiko, Citizen, Hosenki brands use a plastic decorative pendulum that is spray painted `gold'.
Given that some of these makes sound, Ipersonally feel that these type of `pendulum' clocks and the slient ones that makes noice are not really appropriate. Can consider them as decorative items. For the `cuckoo type' of clock; more is need to understand if they can help especially to neutralise bad yellow earth #5 or a combintions of it with other bad earth.

  9. Dear Anon,
Yes, very often it is very sad to learn that one has to borrow money to do it up for the sake of " Feng Shui ".
Nowadays, Feng Shui in it's name sake has come to a very sad state of affairs.
Often, these people, simply don't care about others; other than to make a quick buck.
Nowadays, majority of FS practitioners are only concerned within the 4 walls of a house or apartment.
In fact, Feng Shui is not just about the interior, alone. For example, if the exterior form is not favourable, no amount of enhancement within the house can do wonders.
    1. If our house / apartment is like a mini car; no matter how, it cannot seat say 6 adults. If so, we have to buy an MPV.
    2. As practitioners, we also have to put ourselves in the shoes of the owners.
    3. More importantly, first look out for `leaks' both external and interior.
    4. Personally, I totally agree with you that it does not make sense to spent so much.
The attach caricature, tells it all about borrowing...

  10. Dear All,
    1. Symbollically, it is not favourable to have stripes that run vertically towards the main entrance door. It is like two lines slicing towards the main door.
    2. Since this is uncommon, and there are not many cases to fall back on i.e. to confirm that it is inauspicious; why not be on the safe side?
    3. To find out whether the number of steps is auspicious or inauspicious, please do a SEARCH in this forum for " stairs ".

  12. Dear Anon,
Further to what I had mentioned, please see attached example.
Do take note that it is not necessary for SOME homes to use screens.
And the attach picture should be considered a general example or broad example.
    1. Purple line - manipulation of qi flow (or symbolic qi flow towards the centrepoint or the heart of the house.
    2. Red - proposed location of screen. Please take note that ideally, the screen should hug or be around the same level as one side of the corridor as shown by a straight blue line.
    3. Here, a half height glass panel is acceptable since, it can help to difuse light towards the main door area.
    4. Since the master bedroom door is at the end of the corridor, the screen should not be seen to cut into the master bedroom door.
    5. Please refer to attached examples:
    5.1 File: general-placementscreen.gif
This file shows a generally acceptable position for the screen.
    5.2 File: general-placementscreen1.gif
This file shows an example where the screen should not be placed. As it is symbolic of slicing into the master bedroom door.

install a divider but have the
    following queries:

It is good to be of full length. But if this is not practical ($$$) or not possible, then at least, it should be up to the height of the level of the main door.

    Quote
    2) Can it have open shelves?

Yes; it can have open shelves on one side for display. But at the lower half, if it is a cabinet, avoid placing shoes here.

    Quote
    3) Can I use half glass?

Yes, half glass is often used especially if the main door is furthest away from light source.
Another important point is that a proper location should be chosen. For example, try to make the living room and dining room into two separate "entities". Avoid it `slicing' into a bedroom door - especially if it is placed exactly at the middle of a corridor.
Try to, where possible `hug' a wall or level to the wall closest to the dining area. Or if the living room is quite large, then, it can hug the level of the corridor wall closes to it.

A good example is the " Finding a Good House Report " at http://www.geomancy-online.com
    It looks into three dimensions:-
    1. A 360 degree overview of the Flying Star or Xuan Kong Feng Shui at every main entrance of each of the 24 directions (mountains).
    2. In addition, the Eight House directions is also compared with Para 1 and Para 3.
    3. Personal Ba Zi of the breadwinner i.e. element and strength in relation to direction of the main entrance.
    4. Overall, the best house is one where all 3 (Para 1, 2 and 3) are favourable to the breadwinner.
    5. If this is not possible, then at least, Para 2 and 3 are suitable or mildly suitable.
    6. Often, for Para 1, it can still be cured i.e. Xuan Kong Feng Shui - bad influences can be neutralised.

  15. Dear Anon,
    1. If we look at the foundation or basics, even sites like Geomancy.net applys the five elements concept to the website.
    2. For example, the main page or home page of this site is designed to fit our Ba Zi.
    3. Even the logos are tailored to our ba zi.
    4. Geomancy University's logo is also based on the combination of Metal with water combination.
    5. Our Free resources or learning resources are in Green or wood element to symbolise growth.
    6. In fact there are many more examples, even within this website. Colour schemes are also blended to harmonise with the various Five elements - element combination.
    7. Although, this is not a proven area - of use, since the internet is relatively new; there is relatively NO HARM trying to experiment or apply the Five elements concept.
    8. This website has been on since 1996, and we have been designing our logos, pages etc... since then based on the Five elements concept.
    9. Therefore, there is really nothing new nor a secret. That, Five elements are or has been used here or may be used by other websites.
    10. Looking back, overall, we have been quite successful. But here, it is difficult to place it on Five Elements or other reasons.
    11. If one looks carefully, on the productive sequence of the five elements concept, the colours starting from Metal (white / gold), next Water (blue, black or gray) and Wood (green or brown) - quite closely resemble an interior decorator's harmonising colour schemes.
For example white often go with blue.
Earth tones, often goes with red pink or purple etc...

  16. Dear Utpal,
    1. Although, a `solid' or actual pyramid can be used, it is often not practical to do so.
    2. This is because, the pointed tip of the pyramid is not exactly ideal -- if it is facing locations like the sofa or seating location.
    3. A crystal pyramid can be used if it has light or light shines below it (upwards). light represents - fire.
    4. Actually a simplier solution is that if you need to introduce the Fire elment, why not e.g. use red / pink coloured curtains or walls painted pink / red or purple.
    5. However, as you have only looked at your home based on just the Gua, there can be a possible double edged sword if Fire element is wrongly introduced:-
5.1 It is unfavourable if you are a weak water or Strong fire person.
5.2 Under Flying Star Feng Shui, there are say #5 and #2 (strong BAD earth elements)
Under the productive sequence, introducing Fire, may inadvertently fuel more bad earth.
And there is additional probability that a sector may also have bad wood elements such as #3 and #4. If there are and incombination of #5 and #2, adding Fire element can help bridge this bad wood and earth gap. And cause more problems:
Wood (bad wood) -> introduce Fire element -> fuels additional Earth (bad earth)
    A recipie for disaster!

  17. Dear Anon,
    1. If you can try to provide a sketch.
    2. Firstly, a screen is not just about blocking qi (although) it is one of the reasons.
    3. There are two other reasons:
    FIRST:-
A.1 For an `L' shaped living cum dining room, it will give each rooms additional rectangular form.
A.2. Even if the living cum dining room is elongated, it will also try to make it `more rectangluar' i.e. two rectangles.
    SECOND:-
A.2. If properly positioned, it can help to further `meander' qi or seem to encourage to flow towards the centrepoint and often on to the `other side' which is often the bedrooms and vice versa.
I am very concerned about your statement below:-

    Quote
    You have said repeatedly that
    Qi flows straight from the
    main entrance through a
    hallway out of the sliding
glass doors in the back of the
    house is a major leakage.

I like to clarify that what I had mentioned cannot be taken as a blanket cover for all homes to use screens.
It has to be based on individual homes. As no two homes are alike.
If in doubt, please sent in a sketch of one's home to confirm.
The reason for saying so is:
In your `fix' you used a screen. If the main door area is already dim. And if the screen cuts out further light to the main door; sometimes it may not be favourable to do so.
Sometimes, panel glass can be used to allow light to flow towards the main door area. At times, if the screen is placed wrongly, it would seem as a knife `cutting' into the room door(s).
The maxim is often true: " Too much knowledge is (or maybe) a dangerous thing.

    1. Auto-suggestion
If we were to scold a donkey "stupid", the animal would not have this thought. But if we were to scold a child, often enough that he/she is "stupid" one day, the child may take on this unfortunate circumstances.

    Sub: ?2003Five Yellow?-
    Furniture Moving- Seeking
    Precautions
    After going through the
    information in
    www.geomancy.net , I
    understand that, the five (#5)
    yellow resides in the South
East sector in 2003, and this
    is the most inauspicious
sector of the year, and hence
    one should. avoid doing any
    renovations or earth digging
    activities or have entrance in
    that area.
But, what if I move furniture
"for once"? Is it safe? Or
will I welcome the wrath of
    the Misfortune Star
    "Five Yellow"?

The key to understanding the Grand Duke is:-
    1. Do not touch him.
Therefore, in particular the wall, it is best to avoid - touching him. For example, repainting this wall.
    2. Do not disturb him.
Here; for example if the garden is just outside this location, it is best not to dig earth. Or in the interior of the house, at this sector, not to hack wall or floor tiles. Or do substantial drilling at this spot.
    3. Otherwise, moving furniture or couch or sofa, can still be done. For example, two reasonable adults should be able to move the furniture.
    4. If not, go to any of the handy fix or D.I.Y. store and purchase `friction' free e.g. circular leg supports that allows one to slide the furniture effortlessly.
    5. We should not be or try not to be too worried about being at the location of the Grand Duke or do any other normal activity at his area other than those mentioned under Para 1 and 2.
    6. The rest of your information is too much for me to digest. Please see the guideline under " Samples that were not replied to ".

    Context:-
Self a KUA No:9 person, who
lives in a South 2/3 facing
    apartment, have Flying Stars :
    9 Mountain Star-4 Yearly Base
    Star-5 Water Star, with House
Natal Base Star 5, in the East
    sector of my apartment. Last
    year (2002), in order to
    neutralize the imbalance in
this sector, I had placed a
    salt water cure and a
    grandfather chiming clock at
this location, and as of date
    the salt water has dried-up,
but the 6 coins are left, and
    I have judiciously not filled
the Jar this year, as ?5
    Yellow? as flown to
    South-East, which happens to
    be my balcony.
    The Issue:
I have decided to sleep with
    my head pointing towards
    South, as it is more
    auspicious than the East Sheng
Chi direction for me, as the
    South direction has the
    auspicious one star this year
2003. Hence I want to turn the
    East pointing bed-head in the
East sector of my apartment to
    South pointing bed head
    direction (although partly
    under window).
    The Problem:
Although my bed is in the East
    sector (fortunately not in the
    South East sector) of my
    apartment this year, it is
    unfortunately located in the
South East Corner of the room
in the East sector. As this
room is small enough to move
the bed to any of the other
    sectors of the room, given
pathways to balcony etc, I am
    left with the option of
    turning my bed furniture at
the South East sector of this
room in the East by 180
    degrees. Off-course, I will
    move the grandfather chiming
clock, also to the South East
    sector of this East located
room, but I plan not to
    disturb the dried up salt
water cure jar (i.e. leave it
as it is in the present
    location).
    Questions:
    1)Can I safely bring about
    the above illustrated change?
    2)Should I have to consult
    Tong Shu for an auspicious
    date and time for effecting
    the change in direction?
    3)Should I observe any other
    rituals?
    4)Should I also hang a 6 rod
wind chime, in the SE sector
of my bedroom? (Even though it
may land up near my head rest,
it may not chime as there will
be no wind flow, unless until
I manually tap it every day.
But then I have a grandfather
    chiming clock, near that
    location)
    Note:- The Small Ta-Chi South
East sector in the East room,
is said to have the following
    Flying Stars: 1 Mountain Star-
    5 Yearly Base Star-4 Facing
Star, and 6 Natal Base Star.
    Hope, I have given sufficient
    information.` Looking forward
    towards your kind advise. Many
    thanks in advance.
    Janna.

  21. Dear Dominique,
A good foundation is always to try and seek the reasoning.
The Chinese I-Ching coin can be analysed as followings:-
    1. The outer circle (of the coin)
    Circle represents metal element
    2. Colour of the coin
The colour of the coin looks metallic i.e. copper coin. (metal element)
    3. What is the square hole?
If one looks carefully at the productive sequence: Square represents Earth element.
    What so good about this?
Since square represents Earth, under the productive sequence: Earth supports or fuel Metal. Thus symbolically strengthening the Metal element.
    4. Why use 6? (6 coins)
Number 6 represents BIG or STRONG metal.
    5. Why use Red string?
Red represents fire. Under the destructive sequence of the Five elements concept; Fire CONTROLS Metal.
    6. Thus, since we are using a STRONG metal cure, it is best to seek a balance by say introducing some Fire element such as a red string.
    7. The amount of red string should be sufficient to hold all the six coins. Thus, it should be ridiciously OVER-USED. So long as it can hold all the 6 coins - where the 6 coins can all be seen strung together it is fine.
    8. There is thus no such thing as the number of treads, the thickness, whether there is a tassle or not. All these does not matter. But it would be bad to use red to cover nearly all the surface area of the coins. Like this, might as well spray paint the coins a funny all red. (This is thus not acceptable).
    9. My personal advise is: to have a solid grounding of all concepts. Once, this is achieved, together with continous learning, every authentic traditional Feng Shui use or cure can be " authenticated " or explained clearly.
    10. This is what makes the difference between Authentic Traditional Feng Shui and other `unknown' practices that cannot be authenticated. For example, many Man or Human luck practitioners cannot truly `provide' proof that a certain corner is our wealth corner.
Especially to the effect of asking us to place a piggy bank. It might appeal to `fools' but we must all be discerning about it. Therefore, if anyone says this, do challenge them. If this cannot be answered, it is evident that all these are not Feng Shui but - `make us feel good' i.e. Man or Human luck components. But again, it will not be for long.
The closest to finding wealth sector, is to use Flying Star Feng Shui - to properly activate water positions especially if there are e.g. #7 or #6 or mountain stars (for luck) at certain locations under specific conditions.
    Warmest Regards,
    Cecil

  22. Dear Dominique,
If one is using the count based on Flying Star Feng Shui:-
    1. The maximum count is Number 9. Or we call this 9 purple.
    2. The other way of using these numbers are the 81 interpretations based on the combinations of 9 leading to 81 interpretations.
    3. Flying Star numbers is also used in house numbers or apartment house numbers. One can check out the free report: House Number for apartments or Flying Star (Xuan Kong vertical Flying Star charts). Go to http://www.geomancy-online.com
    4. Feng Shui is about earth luck.
    5. There is another Chinese divinity method called I-Ching or Yi-Ching.
In fact, it was recorded fact that the following discoveries were based on it:
5.1 Computer binary number was invented based on this hexagram.
5.2 Gnome or human map was discovered based on it. Etc...
Even Confucious, the Chinese sage, said that if he had another 50 years, he would like to devote to understanding it.
This link has a flavour of what the Chinese divinity method I-Ching is about:-
    http://sg.geomancy.net/resources/fst/fst-iching-intro.htm
It is also known as " The Oracle ".
    6. This is another evidence that:-
6.1 If one is interested, it is best to know what is the purpose of the concept; it's strengths and weakness.
6.2 What other methods cannot provide, we should see if other methods can be used. For example, if we do ask the right questions or form them correctly, we can use the I-Ching method to give "an answer".

  23. Dear Ken,
    Please see below:-
-- Extract from a recent e-mail on auspicious measurements --
    Further to what I had mentioned;
For the surface area of your `Feng Shui friendly' tables or for anyone wanting to manufacture Feng Shui friendly tables can use this explanation:-
(One Feng Shui foot is nearly equal to an imperial foot. One Feng Shui foot is roughly equal to 43 cms.)
Description of tables with multiples of 17 inches (lenght x width):-
    THE MAGICAL 17 INCH FACTOR
"One Feng Shui foot was derived from the side of a square, where the length of the diagonal of a square is the square root of two. In the West, this is known as the `magic square'.
Thus multiples of 17 inches will translate to several square foot of the optimium auspicious width. "
    -- End of extract --
    1. Ideally, the minimum length of your screen should be 17 inches or multiples of 17 inches or approximately multiples of 43cms.
    2. Usually, if the main door is too close to the screen; for example 1 to 1 1/2 metre distance, it is best to use a full screen that can cover the entire door.
This is because, it is not auspicious to open to half a `wall' (symbolic half-screen) and face a void. Here, the main door is considered out-of-balance.
For public housing flats, (this is not made known) but in the past, the government had the HDB (housing development board) flat Feng Shuied and if one checks the dimensions of the door and it's outer-frame, these are auspicious measurements. Thus, a screen following the measurement of the door or door with the outer frame are auspicious.
In your case, since the main door is quite a distance from the screen, YES, you can use `half' the measurement or the best is to go for 43 cm or multiples of 43 cm for your screen.
    Warmest Regards,
    Cecil

    - Which is better: "control"
or "weaken" the bad stars ?

Each has it's merits and demerits.
Frankly, there is no ONE right or wrong answer to this.
    For example, if a room has bad #5 or #2. Since these are bad earth elements;
Under the Five element concept, seemingly: Wood can be used to crush or destroy bad earth i.e. control it.
But this can be a double edged sword if: Fire is introduced say in the room. As a result; the introduced WOOD, would help fuel FIRE which will inturn fuel more bad earth.
Given this; it would be in such a situation - better to use Metal. Since it can help to weaken Earth.
Thus, on a more cautious side, I would say, METAL is a better choice.

    - The living room is where
you relax to watch tv and
    listen to music...but is it
consider yin or yang area ??

This is not as important as:
    1. How much natural light filters into this area?
    2. If there is no natural light (quite dark); one can compensate it by turning on artificial light.
Frankly, this is not a major issue here. Although it sounds interesting to `bark-up' this tree; this is not the main concern in Feng Shui.

    - Does one compare the
    interaction of the Mountain
and Water stars or do you
    place more emphasis on
    Mountain star if the location
    is a bedroom ?

If one is proficient with Shapes and Forms, frankly, one do not really need to rely on Flying Star or numerology of it in Feng Shui.
This is because " Water stars " or activiating it is as easy as making sure that at the frontage e.g. main door or living room or balcony area, there is clear space.
However, for mountain stars (if found), under Flying Star, it can only be activated at the `back' or a solid wall or a symbolic wall or support.
As much as we like to wishfully activate a mountain star - it would be silly to activate it at the main door. For example, isn't it silly to place a rock above the main door?
Commonsense tells us that law of gravity can effectively bring down this rock dropping it on someone's head - if they are unlucky enough.
Similarly, why place a mountain to block our water (clear space) at the front? Symbolically, it is like giving ourselves `difficulty' each time we step into the house.
Therefore, mountain star(s) can be activated only on set conditions. And even if it is found at the frontage - it is fool hardy to activate it.

    GRAND DUKE
I saw your reply to one of the

However, if I am moving to a
    resale flat and
    need to repaint the whole
house ie. all the walls, then
    what happens? Am I
    disturbing the Grand Duke?
Is'nt it funny to leave one
    wall unpainted?

    1. Frankly, this is not an issue.
    2. When one takes over a new house/apartment, one has not being considered as moved-in yet.
    3. Yes, it is very unrealistic to leave a wall or flooring untouched. It is very impractical - and seems `silly' to do so:)
    4. This is why another key sucess factor in Feng Shui is the selection of auspicious dates.
    5. The two most important dates are:-
    5.1. Selecting a good date for start-of-renovations.
    5.2. Selecting a date for move-in.
    6. After selecting an auspicious date for start-of-renovations, the contractor can start work even at the Tai Sui location.

    MAIN ENTRANCE DOOR
I found that my main entrance
    door is facing Northwest which
    is an
    unauspicious direction for all
of our 3 members of the
    family. However,
    directions of other rooms are
    suitable.
So do I say this house is
    suitable for us or not?

    1. The key to understanding this is to look at it from this point of view:-
    2. Especially for the breadwinner; if a house / apartment is unsuitable; and depending on the degree of unsuitability i.e. death or disaster or irritation or spook; it is akin to having a `fractured arm' when first moved-in.
    3. If one also has te toilet at the centrepoint and toilet next to the main door; it is akin to having a leg amputated when first moved-in.
    4. Usually, these are known as `leaks'. The more the leaks, the more or higher the probability that it may lead usually first towards finance problems.
    5. Therefore, if one has such a home, it is more evident to avoid - ADDITIONAL leaks.
    6. Going forward; often, problems arise because of one or more such leaks.

    Cecil
