My main entrance door is in direct line of sight of a window

Recommended Posts

After browsing a couple of feng shui books, I
had a couple of questions. First off, a window
faces my front door. I know that's not good.
So, I guess what I need to do is either place
a crystal or mirror in that area. Maybe like
in the middle, between my door and window?
I know that where my window is, it's the fame
area. And, I heard that I shouldn't place crystals there.
Because crystals represent water. So, maybe
I should place the crystal not too close to
the window area. It doesn't matter how high
or low the crystal is from hanging down the
ceiling, does it?
Next question about the stove... I heard that you should place
mirrors around the stove area. Some say above the stove, some
say to the sides of the stove. Which is better, or try both?
Also, I think my kitchen is in the wealth area...Is this good?
About mirrors in the bedroom. I heard that mirrors are good
in the bedroom. I also heard that a big round
mirror is good over the bed. Is this true?
Does anybody have mirrors in their bedroom?
I also read in Steven Post's book that a chinese
bamboo flute is good for peace and safety, gives
support in difficulties, fights off evil. I was wondering if
anybody had one of these in their house.
I also read in Steven Post's book that it's good to hang TEN
COINS OF CHING DYNASTY in your wealth area. Does anybody have one of these?

Here, like what you correctly mentioned that a window facing your front door
is not auspicious as ch'i will flow from your main door straight out of the
house without allowing it to circulate inside the house.
Frankly, methods like placing a crystal on any location on the window, on a
table infront of the window, hanging the crystal will not work. Such
elements are suppose to enhance a location NOT to stop ch'i from quickly
move in and out of the house.
What you should do instead is to make sure that you have some means of not
letting the ch'i flow out immediately. Here are some of the alternatives:-
Either
1. a partition after your door to allow the ch'i to circulate into the
house or if you stand from the main door entrance looking into the house,
can you immediately see the window? Sometimes, you can use some shelving to
`block' similiar to using a partition.
2. Close the portion of the window that is in the direct line of the main
door.
3. Use `thicker' curtains on the window.
3. Use `blinds' at the windows which are not fully opened but at an angle
which still allow allow air to come in.
Thanks.

Dear Karen,
It is good that you asked this question. A good book would normally mention something and provide a rationale as to why the author says to hang an object such as a crystal.
Perhaps, you may like to re-read the paragraph where you had read this mentioned in the book.
If the author does not provide a rationale explanation as to why he/she says this then, you should discount what he/she is telling you to do.
Whenever we do things even under Feng Shui, there should always be some `rationale' explanation for us to judge for ourselves.
For example, some Feng Shui Masters will recommend that you place 5 crystal hanging lights (does not matter if it is real or immitation) to represent the Five elements at an very auspcious determined after using the Flying Star theory. This is a good `move'.
But if you hire a practioner and he/she ends up auditing your home and brings a suitcase load of Feng Shui wares e.g crystals, bamboo flutes etc... do be `concerned' because they may (I say may because not all FS Masters are like this ... but they can be genuine or want to make some extra money). They may then recommend you to hang this, hang that.
What you should then do is ask him/her for teh rationale for hanging it there! If you know abit about Feng Shui, the FS practioner would be able to explain to you in a concise manner *particularly* using the 5 elements concept else, treat his cures with suspect!
If you are lucky, nothing may go wrong but if not, something unfortunate may happen after this.
Frankly, in Feng Shui books, after having known most of the available theories, a Feng Shui Author may then write repeated materials in a few books.
In fact, we do not need to buy too many books on the `same' subject matter of the same author as either some materials as mentioned earlier are repeated or they may cover `Fast Food' Feng Shui and make it seem that cures and fixes are so easy and everyone can simply hang a crystal here or there; if need be buy a dozen of them and hang it in every room!
For example, I have touched on the Eight Associations or Eight Associate Directions or Life Associations where a few authors who are not specialised in say Pillars of Destiny use magic words like `career' `wealth' to sell their books so easily.
I mentioned in some of the messages that the Eight Associations are considered something we do `spare time'.. ie. after we have done everything necessary and after that, if you still want to enhance... check whether it is still auspicious to do so, and place this object here or there!
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

This is from the book THE MODERN BOOK OF FENG SHUI by Steven Post about crystals: Mutltifactured spherical crystals are used to adjust the direction of chi flow. The crystal ball takes a linear flow and diffuses it in all directions. When the ling or bad karma or the difficult chi hits a crystal ball, you never know that the bad influence has come in or that it has been corrected. Crystals can help improve the effectiveness of your visualization by reflecting spiritual light, sunlight, the light of the deity of your own heart, or simply universal light. Often you may subsitute a wind chime or mirror in place of a crystal. Place crystals in places like hallways or along the alignment of three or more "piercing heart door,". Often a crystal (hung from a rearview mirro) in your car can be empowered for safety and calmness.
So, what do you think of this? Does this guy know what he is talking about?

Dear Karen,
In traditional Feng Shui practise, even in China, crystals were not widely
used until today. Mostly it is due to the present day where modern
technology is able to create such crystals cheaply and easily available to
the public.
So far, I understand only recently are Feng Shui authors writing about
their own beliefs that crystals can be used as either an enhancement or a
cure. I guess this field is very new and my `guess' is as good as yours as
to whether it is that good.
I remembered, last year while doing a Feng Shui audit for my friend. On my
first visit, he placed around 5 to 6 crystals at the North West (Metal
location) of his home. He explained to me that he does `Feng Shui' by trial
and error. Normally when he placed an object, if nothing `bad' happens, he
will leave it there and experiment further.
One good thing that came out of this was that, by conducting such `isolated'
experiments, if something really went wrong, he knew what to do. Rather than
placing so many ehancements at the same period and not knowing what went
wrong.
To continue with this story, after my Feng Shui audit, it was `indeed' true
that the crystals he used symbolic of the water element infact help the
metal element at the North West... Thus his " intuitive " Feng Shui method
worked for him. However, he also recounted that in many others he had
failed. For instance, he mentioned to me that he experimented with placing
some `enhancements' at a particular location. After that, he had quite alot
of problems e.g. his car has to have a major repair, he had financial
problems etc...
My conclusion here is to only use crystals when there is a need (if a full
Feng Shui audit has been conducted). As for placing it in the car... again..
anyone's guess to its effectiveness. This is still an open discussion.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil Lee
