Dear Anon, There are two dimensions when looking at the placement of a fish tank: 1. Shapes and Forms Often, the advise is to place it on the same wall along (but not close to) the main door. (Around the main door location) Avoid placing it at the centrepoint of the house. 2. Flying Star Feng Shui Under Flying Star Feng Shui, locations that has #7 and or #6 (PLUS) also that this is a water location e.g. the living room area - can be considered acceptable for a water postion. But under Flying Star, becareful not to place a water position at locations which #3 or #4 or multiples of these bad wood element. The rationale is that such a water position can `inflame' bad wood fu…

Thanks, Cecil. My office is in tower block located at a cross junction. A FS practitioner once advised me that I should locate some of my "aggressive" looking displays in such a way that they face this road junction. This was a sculpture of an eagle, two sculptures of Shiva Nataraja (an Indian deity with multiple hands). I figured the luo pan may have the same effect. Pity though, it is really quite a piece of art and I rather it faces me.

Dear Peck Wun, Yes, it is preferred that an altar does not face the main entrance. Here, it is considered disrespectful as you are asking guan yin to guard your door for you. If you can, (if possible) although the altar can be located facing the main door, where possible, try to see if guan yin be facing towards a wall instead of directly, facing the main door. Avoid, tilting guan yin but as mentioned above, see if you can allow her to face e.g the wall next to the main entrance. Or alternatively, change the location (if possible) Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Kenneth, 1. Frankly, hopefully the abacus is not too large! Else imagine usually we have a desk-top PC and other work items on our work-table. 2. And such things may take up too much of the real-estate on our desktop. 3. Furthermore, it is much more difficult or not feasible to sub-divide a "tiny" area such as a worktable into eight sectors. 4. But, if you must insist, usually, the Sheng Qi (chi) sector is one's Prosperity or Excellent sector. 5. A more reasonable approach but even so, may not be achievable is to sit facing one's prosperity and/or excellent sector. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Let's be practical (and reasonable). Can we turn back the clock? (Go back in time, today?) Yes or No? If can't what other remedy are you talking about?

Dear Maria, From the perspective of the Flying Star Compass School, it is advisable to identify the Water Star. For instance, during Period 7, the position of water wealth corresponds to the Water Star = #7. Additionally, during Period 7, it is common to hear references to "double 7's". If you have reviewed some of the discussions in this forum, spanning from several years ago to last year, you will find that this is the optimal location for activating the water star. In Period 8, make an effort to determine the location of the water star #8. If one has even a slight understanding of what I am "referring" to, it is advisable not to inquire about "…

Hi, Please see below:- This is the same problem faced by many in Housing and Development Flats where part of the Kitchen is behind the altar. Due to lack of space, you can place it with the kitchen wall (behind) it. However, it should not be directly behind the kitchen STOVE. Frankly, what you mentioned is not Feng Shui but `superstitious' belief. Therefore, I try not to comment on such matters. Perhaps you can use your `sixth' sense i.e if you are happy with it... this is usually ok. Warmest Regards Cecil

Dear Anamika, Apologies, I am unable to comment on any Black Hat Sect practices as it is considered a marketing ploy and has no basis in Traditional FS practices. For example, one can never find *BTB* practised in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong or in the Far East. For example, in my country (Singapore) no one practises it. In many of such countries - such " practices " are condoned. Although the `founder' of *BTB* came from Taiwan to US; none of his countrymen in Taiwan I believe practices such pseudo stuffs. Warmest Regards, Cecil

These are some of the considerations: 1. The overall concept of placing the flutes or two flutes has more to do with SYMBOLISM in Feng Shui than anything else. 2. When it comes to symbolism; there is no hard or fast rule. 3. For example, it is not like studying to become a real life doctor of medicine. Here, a doctor must have an exact understanding of say where all the internal organs and veins in a person. 4. Symbolism in Feng Shui can be wide ranging and subject to lots of various interpretations. So long as it sounds reasonable, it can be used. 5. Thus the most common method of placing flutes especially a pair of flutes is shown under this link:- http://fo…

My best direction is southwest but my bedroom is in the south direction which is not favorable for me.Thus,i've decided to place my bed facing southwest.Since my bathroom is in the southwest direction,is it ok for me to sleep facing the wall which shares the bathroom and my bedroom? would that be considered as sleeping facing the southwest direction? Plus,i plan to move my bed to the corner below the light that is fixed against the wall. Will the light disturb me?what if i shift my bed slightly away from the corner?

Dear Anon, It is good to use a white primer first. Although it has nothing to do with FS. As long as the colour has been changed; what cannot be seen can no longer `influence' or be used. Therefore, by painting the wall rosy beige, it will be `influnenced' by this colour. Therefore, in my opinion, it does not matter that you have to remove the black paint first. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, 1. Firstly, is there any other better alternatives then to place bamboo strips? For example, if it is a window, so long as you have closed the window or it is part of the balcony the balcony glass is on the side facing the main door such that qi cannot flow out directly. 2. If the above alternative is used, then no need to consider bamboo strips. 3. If you still have to use bamboo strips, then the "test" is so long as we humans can "see thru" the bamboo strips to our main door; then equally, it is fine to place it at the location mentioned. 4. As for the frosted glass so long as it is not reflective (like a mirror) it would be acceptable especially if it is…

Dear Anon, 1. Traditionally in Feng Shui, a work or study direction(s) depends on one's date of birth. For example, Male, Mr Sample Ficitious Person born on 19 December 1975 at 11.30am:- Work Position Report This report is generated for: Sample Ficitious Person Gender: Male Conversion of Date of Birth: Solar Calendar: 19 Dec 1975 between 11.00 a.m. to 12.59 p.m. Lunar Calendar: 1975, 11th month, 17 day, between 11.00 a.m. to 12.59 p.m. Please check that the above details are correct before proceeding. Dear Anita, There are three `issues' regarding the computer: 1. The Video Display Screen which is made of glass. Depending on the type of computer screen used, some are `reflective'. If you have read many messages on `avoiding' mirrors in the bedroom, here, the computer screen = mirror and should preferably not face any part of the bed. If so, you can simply use a computer cover or a cloth to cover it when not in use. 2. Some Feng Shui Masters believe that computers are `electrical' and belongs to the water element. In this case, if will affect those particularly those with `weak' fire element. 3. As computers are `electrical' there will be some form of magnetic interfere…

Dear Anon, 1. One method to address this situation is to position the ancestor tablet to the left of the table when facing the altar, ensuring that the table is slightly lower than the deity located on the right. 2. Historically, some individuals have constructed a niche directly above the refrigerator to accommodate their ancestor tablet. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Cheui May 1. The table must lean against a wall or a partition for support. 2. It should not be by itself, e.g. in the middle of the room. It should rest on or `supported' one side by a wall. 3. Where possible, the back of the table should also preferably be a solid wall. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Warmest regards Mater Lee and many thanks for your previous advise. Today I am struggling with the placement of the Dining Room. Both my husband and myself are SouthEast facing and if I follow the eight houses theory I would be best to place the Dining Room in East/Longevity or South/Health position. My confusion is that the front door would occupy SE and it is not good to put the dining table in a position beside the door. All the houses we have been viewing have a floorplan which places the dining room on one side of the door opening onto the foyer with the office on the opposite side of the foyer with doors to close it off. Directly along the hall from the front door i…

Dear Derek, Based on the little information provided, you may have to use your personal feeling to determine where you feel comfortable with the placement of a fish tank. Bear in mind that the living room should have clear space and the fish tank can be e.g. a conversation piece or against a wall, where you and your family feel comfortable with. Normally, the Flying Star chart is used to find out if there is any imbalance (if any) at the location where one wants to place a fish tank. Or, because a specific location can activate the water star. Warmest Regards, Cecil
