Dear Jody, I feel that currently, because of the small size of the tree, it will not pose too much of a `threat' to the house. At this stage of growth (of the tree), you may seriously want to consider, replanting it away from your main entrance area as it will one day bound to grow bigger. Although it is not a `threat' today, but it will be one day. When it grows taller, and if you do not decide to re-plant it, then I suggest, you may have to consider a `cure'. For example, placing a semi-circular carpet at the main entrance door area radiating outwards. Hi, You have to consider the main entrance that is used most and not the entrance designed to be used. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Elizabeth, As a guideline:- 1. The aquarium, most not be placed at the centre-point of the house. 2. Preferable that it should not be placed in the dining room. As you mentioned, it is acceptable to place the aquarium in the family room and on the `surface' it looks a sensible location to be placed. Where possible, if your house has an `L' shape configuration, symbolically, or through use of partition to `change' it to a square or rectangle shaped. This configuration is still the best. Dear Nansi, The key to understanding this is based on the following:- Grand Duke does not like to be:- 1. Disturbed. Here one should not do construction work at the location. This includes repairs and renovations. 2. Touched. Here, this would imply that painting is consider `touching' him. So, based on the second point, please don't paint the walls on the East. Dear Eve, Traditional Feng Shui did not mention anything about the fridge as it was not invented yet. However, the number of fridge is not important as it does not provide warmth and effectively is `self-contained' box. Unlike the stove which is considered the `heart' of the kitchen, frige or a number of them are not that crucial. The only thing crucial here is that it must not be next to a `fire' element or if so, provide at least 6 inches or 130 cm distance. Moderator's Note: The reply to this is under " More Grand Duke Questions" Hi. I see there's questions about construction in the East. My question is: Would there be any ill effects from tearing out flower beds in the W and SW, and building a raised bed in the NE this year? The earth *would* be disturbed by putting in rebar to hold the timbers down in the NE and taking out rebar in the W and SW. If there is the possibility of ill effects, it would definitely be worth waiting until next year. Your input is very much appreciated. Thanks, julie

Dear Nansi, This is based on the Grand Duke Theory where for this year, one should not offend the Grand Duke of Jupiter by not doing renovation at the East direction. The Grand Duke or Tai Su `will' be offended if one e.g. digs earth or do renovations at this direction as it will disturb him. Unfortunately, the effects can be `long lasting' as it may extend to a few years. So far, frankly, this is the warning but no acceptable cures are available. As mentioned earlier, for some Chinese, they may consider `praying' for forgiveness to the Tai Su or Grand Duke of Jupiter. Other than this, I really do not know what to do also. Because, many who are aware of this, remember abo…

Dear Carol, So far, Feng Shui has not come to the dogs yet. In the olden days, priority of Feng Shui goes to searching a site for a community e.g. a large city. This would also apply to a site or a building or a home. Therefore, in the past the emphasis of Feng Shui is not like what we are doing, looking for `cures'. As for pet dogs, there is currently no mention of this anywhere on the best place to place them in cages. I guess dogs used to roam around and the Chinese (unfortunately) enjoy eating them. (I hope this statement is not offensive or replusive, as I do not mean any harm. If so, I sincerely apologise as I am stating the fact of life that some Chinese people do …

Dear Carol, The correct method is the head should be facing the good direction. For example in your case, if North is auspicious. you should have your head facing North. Dear Jon, For plants, it is acceptable to have plants in or outside the home. The important thing to remember are:- 1. Avoid having a lone large tree in the front of the house. 2. For plants, avoid too many plants at the North East (Devil's Gate), West (Yin location) and South West (Devil's Backdoor). The reason for the above is that too many plants especially large plants create too `yin' an environment. This may create an imbalance in the surrounding and attract `spirits' to stay at the location. Another point to note is to keep the plants `neat' and `trim'. For other locations, it is also good not to have too many plants concentrated at a location also. In your case,…

Dear Luna, Yes, a water element in the position you had mentioned symbolically means `illicit affairs' and for a wife, it would not be advantageous to have a water position on the right side of the main entrance door. It is acceptable to have the aquarium instead at the South East corner which is the `wood element' area. Dear Toni, Please see below:- -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Friday, April 09, 1999 2:32 PM Subject: Re: stove next to fridge?? Since the stove is in the south, this is acceptable because at the south position, the stove is able to `retain' the heat as it is at it's most comfortable location i.e. South. Normally, if the stove is at the South position, you can have the stove face a water element e.g. a frige. This is because a stove at the south can still be `cooled' down by the water element opposite it. Contrast this if you place a stove e.g. in the North sector. Here, you must not let th…

Dear Jenna, Thank you for bringing up a rather interesting question. Let me first elaborate that in the past, especially in China, toilets was never `attached' to the house. It is usually situtated a distance away from the house. However, in our modern society, this is no longer possible. Like the concept of the toilet, litter bins or boxes should preferably have a lid and closed when not in use. It should be emptied regularly. Where possible, use trash bags to contain fluids or liquid waste or drained away. The purpose of the lid is to keep any animals from scavaging the litter bins. It is acceptable practice to keep the bin below the sink (for those who have an electric…

Dear Gwen, Thank you for your encouraging words. Your words will certainly motivate us to make the site better and better. Please see below:- -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Monday, April 05, 1999 9:40 AM Subject: bedroom The characteristics of having two doors facing each other is that there will be a tendency for the two parties living in room 1 and say the master bedroom to have `frequent' disagreements or quarrels. As you have mentioned that both rooms have double doors, this can easily be solved (provided you are able to open only one side of the door and each is opposite / diagonal) t…

Dear Luna, Currently there are two methods at looking at the number of fishes to `rear'. Method 1: ======== The most common method is based on general good numbers of fish i.e. fishes should be numbering e.g. 5, 6, 8. (9 is still acceptable). Method 2: ======== The other method is based on your kua number ie. if your kua is Li or South, you should rear 9 fishes. If your Kua number is Kan (North), you should rear 1 fish, if your Kua number is Chen or East, then you should rear 3 fishes. Ideally, this is based on the breadwinner's Kua number Conclusion ========= Frankly, the easiest method is to follow ` Method 1' especially if you have a large family and especially, the fi…

Dear Amy, Thanks for your clarifications. Since you are using your room at night, lighting is important and this would depend on whether you are working or resting. As far as possible, try to make the room as cosy as possible particulary place a faourite photo or even a small vase of (real or artificial) flowers would help. Dear Jody, The first thing you need to determine is which intangible force your main entrance door is at. You mentioned that it is spook/disaster. However, you need to further determine whether it is closer to spook or disaster from the mid-point of the main door. If it is the spook intangible force, you do not need to do anything other than keep the location bright e.g. neutral colour white will do. However if the disaster line flows through the main door, you may like to take up any of the following suggestions:- Currently there are five methods of dealing with this (not in any order of importance):- 1. Change the angle of the door to face one of your best directions i.…
