Dear Glyn, Frankly, this depends on the type of stuffed toys. If it is `cute' (don't blame me but the dictionary says cute means adorable but ugly) or any soft toys, this is acceptable. I have seen many homes even in Singapore, where the child (especially girls) display a wide range of their toys e.g. barbie dolls etc... The only thing is not to display stuffed animals e.g. tigers, leopards etc... Other objects to avoid include war toys, guns or swords etc... I am not sure how this would affect the alter ego of boys thou (if they know how to read this) and start to throw rotten eggs at me:) Likewise, swords should not be displayed facing the main entrance door and paintings or pictures of such animals e.g. tigers with their mouth open etc... facing the main door also. However, if you do not know much about whether the location or that wall is auspicious or not, I would suggest not doing so. This is because, if the wall or area is considered inauspicous, you are bouncing back or doubling the bad luck. This could be worse. If you really do not know, but feel that you want to, you are using " intuitive " form of Feng Shui. That is, put it there, if nothing happens say within two weeks, you can leave it there. What I mean is that between the two : fountains / waterfall, which is considered to bring beneficial ch'i to a home. Placed either outside the compound outside the front of the house or in the living room. Fish tank as a cure. For example if a lone lamp post can be seen from the living room entrance, a Feng Shui practioner would then suggest that a fish tank be placed `overlooking' the lamp post. One view is that it is made up of the Water element and Metal element ie. the water in the fish tank is = water element (straight forward) and the other is Metal element e.g. fishes like goldfish or kois (carps) and arowanas (Dragon fish) because it is " gold " and gold is the metal element. 2. Another view is that the water again = water element. But the fishes are of the fire element i.e. gold fishes (red gold fishes) represent the fire element. 3. It has to do with the five elements `cure'. It's take a different example. For instance if a peron's Pillars of Destiny element is `weak water'. The direct cure is to add water element to it. The indirect `cure' is to add metal to his water element. If you cannot follow, I suggest, first look at the Productive and Destructive cycle of the Five Elements. As black gold fish = water element, it is said to strengthen the Water element. This will be more effective to counter any `Fire threats'. Similiarly, adding fishes with the `metal' element also helps to strengthen the Water element. As Metal supports the Water element under the Productive cylce of the 5 elements. Here, what I am trying to say is that if you are using the fish tank to counter the threat of the `Fire element' then, the Water element would not be strong. However, the good news is that if one is not using the fish tank to neutralise a `threat' by all means get yourself any coloured fishes. But, 2 1/2 feet is pretty close for two units. I remembered seeing a condominium in Singapore with such a layout. Frankly, with such close proximity to each other, I really think of anything neutral for both parties. I once remembered seeing two flats of the same nature in a government housing in Singapore. One party placed a Bagua (Pakua or Trigram) above his door. The other neighbour had no choice but to place an `opposite' Bagua (with a mirror) on his side of the door. This is a ` lose-lose' situation for both parties as `bad ch'i get bounced to and fro. This is highly undesirable. There is no known cure for such a situation. If you can see your profile in the mirror either lying down or simply setting on the bed, this is considered no good under Feng Shui. The rationale is because, it was felt that when we sleep, our souls leave our body and when it sees itself in a mirror, it will get a `shock'. This view is widely held although some authors may interpret this differently but still hold on to this concept. In my website, I mentioned that, if you do not have a problem and can sleep peacefully with a mirror facing you, then, go ahead but if you have restless sleeps, perhaps, you may want to look at removing the mirror or avoid placing one. Dear Michelle, Sorry, can you clarify how you derive " Water & earth in my living room " is it because one part of your living room has the Water (North) and I assume North East is the (Earth)? Usually when we apply the 5 elements concept we do not have a `pairing' like what you suggested e.g. earth or water, metal and fire. But rather, a more accurate way is check a person's main element and strength. For example if the person's main element is Strong Fire and his bedroom is located at the North. We can introduce the colour blue in his bedroom to cool down his strong fire. This is based on the Principle of equilbrium i.e. a person's element should not be either Strong or Weak. For example if your main element under the Pillars of Destiny is a Strong Fire as mentioned above, in general, you should not introduce Fire (Pink, Red or Purple). The addition of this would (depending on the year). Lets say that for this year, the Lunar new year season is dominated by Wood, under the 5 elements concept, Wood "fuels" Fire and if you add `pink' you are increasing the intensity of the person's element which so happens to be already a strong Fire element. What happens? The person may get burnout or face pressures at work, competition etc... Alternatively if another person has the main element of weak Fire, in the above situtation, the above would help him to make his weak Fire element strong. Lets assume that you do not know your Pillars of Destiny main element and strength. What happens? You have to use your intuition or do it by trial and error. This may or may not cause consequences to you depending on how good or bad you apply your `cures' or `enhancements'. Perhaps you may want to take note that most of our houses are not mansions and do not have the east wing or west wing etc... therefore, not to add confusion to yourself, do not analyse a room into a few `zones' eg. North and NE if you can. If you cannot ascertain wether your room is a North or NE room, then, try not generally state that the room is eg. of the Water or Wood element. But rather, consider the entire house based on the direction of the main door. If the main door is at West, then treat this house as a West house. In fact, here in Singapore, we are at the Southern part and all houses in a " macro level " can be treated as a house with the Fire element. This is not wrong. What I am trying to elaborate is that if we own a palace or a mansion, we easily determine that since there is a "North wing" of the building we can pain the rooms in the North `blue'. But if we stay in a `small' house, it would not be practical to paint the North wall blue(water element), the North East Wall yellow (earth element). In addition to this by using blue to enhance the North, you are actually `increasing' the strength of Water. This is not beneficial to a person who e.g. is a weak Fire person as Water destroys his weak Fire element and can even `extinguish' it. This is bad for this person. For each of us, if our main element is `weak' we should not paint the room with colours that clash with our element e.g. if you are a weak Water person avoid painting the room Red, pink or purple. This also applies to children's room. There is more in Feng Shui "than meet the eye". Most of us are practising `intiutive Feng Shui' which can be summarised as `Trial and Error' Feng Shui. The reason why I mentioned this is that in Feng Shui, we do not only `tackle' the main entrance door but look at the overall. The " overall " can be have a few meanings here:- 1. Overall, if you are only considering one Feng Shui theory, that of the Eight house. My advise is that you should not change the direction of the main entrance just because is facing the ` Spook ' direction. The reason why I mentioned this is because under the Eight House Theory, there is a " degree of " unsuitability of the house to the breadwinner. In this case, the two worst senarios are where the `death' (Ranked 1st) and `disaster' line (Ranked 2nd) `enters' your main entrance door. In such a situation, the house is considered unsuitable for the owner. You also need to check out how about the various bedrooms? Are the bedrooms favourable locations for you and your family members? Currently if it is the `spook' direction, if you do not apply any other FS theory, then you can consider a simple overview of `changing' your main door to the garage door. But here, becareful because you can be either very lucky or unlucky... if it happens that under the Flying Star Chart, everything changes because of the main entrance door. What I mean is that if you are not sure what is the result of whether, the Flying Star Chart becomes better or worse, then you have to take a so called 50-50 chance and hopes that the second option works. What I mention is not compulsory thou. You can still contiinue to use the Eight House Theory and base on your inutition to do the necessary changes. There are other considerations where in Feng Shui, since you may not be aware of your Pillars of Destiny main element and strength you do not know whether it is better to change the main door to SW and thus resulting a change of the house to a Metal element house. The fact that you have to enter and leave the house through this door remains `valid'. Unfortunately, one needs to know Mandarin in order to read such books. Many of such books are also not translated into English and currently many English educated Feng Shui authors are capitalising on this but many are still no `match' for the `originals' although many English speaking Feng shui authors try to make a good attempt at it. Currently I will not mention the books here but we have found fundamental flaws in the `current batch' of Feng Shui books on theories relating to Pillars of destiny and the Flying star. For example, one well researched author got the Pillars of Destiny `gender' wrong and thus making anyone trying to use the steps... for such a calculation flawed. Another author got the Flying Star interpretation wrongly. Another author uses the year under the Lunar calendar and uses a different calendar method to find the day, month and year. This is like comparing apples with oranges. (The true traditional method of calculating the Pillars of Destiny is to use entirely the Lunar calendar system and this is the practise of expert Feng Shui Masters). Electricity is considered a water element because of its " fluid " nature for example we can visualise them like " watercourses " i.e. the flow of electricity through the wires. 2. It can be used to `block' or `neutralise' bad ch'i because it has magnetic properties. For example when we hold a compass to a wire, the compass needle is attracted to the wire. 3. One practioner said that para 2 is all nonsense! She concluded that when Feng Shui was `born' there was no electricity. So she reasoned that this is not true. My own belief is that I would like to believe in Para 1 and 2. Para 1, electricity under current Feng Shui practise, many Masters/Practioners plus a few Feng Shui Authors do equate electricity with the " Water " element. Robert, will be coming up with a more accurate Eight Associations soon that will take into consideration your KUA number. Dear Karen, In traditional Feng Shui practise, even in China, crystals were not widely used until today. Mostly it is due to the present day where modern technology is able to create such crystals cheaply and easily available to the public. So far, I understand only recently are Feng Shui authors writing about their own beliefs that crystals can be used as either an enhancement or a cure. I guess this field is very new and my `guess' is as good as yours as to whether it is that good. I remembered, last year while doing a Feng Shui audit for my friend. On my first visit, he placed around 5 to 6 crystals at the North West (Metal location) of his home. He explained to me that he does `Feng Shui' by trial and error. Normally when he placed an object, if nothing `bad' happens, he will leave it there and experiment further. One good thing that came out of this was that, by conducting such `isolated' experiments, if something really went wrong, he knew what to do. Rather than placing so many ehancements at the same period and not knowing what went wrong. To continue with this story, after my Feng Shui audit, it was `indeed' true that the crystals he used symbolic of the water element infact help the metal element at the North West... Thus his " intuitive " Feng Shui method worked for him. However, he also recounted that in many others he had failed. For instance, he mentioned to me that he experimented with placing some `enhancements' at a particular location. After that, he had quite alot of problems e.g. his car has to have a major repair, he had financial problems etc... My conclusion here is to only use crystals when there is a need (if a full Feng Shui audit has been conducted). As for placing it in the car... again.. anyone's guess to its effectiveness. As I mentioned in a few messages in this forum that the Eight Associations or Eight Aspirations or Life Aspirations is only a general guide ... not to be taken seriously .. until every other Feng Shui theory has been taken care off especially the Flying Star Chart. Even under the Eight Associations, the time factor should be taken care of. For those who want to find out more, Robert will at a later date create a more accurate software program to find out your `moving' Eight Aspirations rather than depend on the current static model. Again, the Eight Associations is again secondary Feng Shui. Anyone interested merely to zoom in to get `immediate' results from your so called " career or wealth corners " I believe will either be `very lucky' to find it or be truly disappointed with " Feng Shui". Dear Karen, Yes, I suggested that the mirror should be placed above the sink i.e. wash basin. Perhaps I would like to elaborate the reason for doing so is that if you have an attached bathroom, it would be better to place a mirror in the bathroom (i.e. above the sink) than to place it in the bedroom. But if your dressing table is not facing the bed, then it is acceptable to have a mirror on it.
