Dear Elena, Typically, in my country, a 'good luck gift' is not exchanged during the first meeting. More significantly, it is essential to meet over 'tea' and engage in a friendly conversation. The key aspect in Eastern culture is to present your business card using both hands, ensuring that your name card is facing the recipient, and to hand it over 'safely' into their hands. This gesture is the most crucial 'gift' that establishes a tone of politeness and 'respect'. Depending on who arranged the meeting, it is generally the individual who initiated it that covers the expenses. Alternatively, in this context, the gift can be interpreted as 'footing' the bill, which holds greater significance than any other gifts. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Kishore, During water and earth periods, for personal self, try to enhance yourself with wood element. For personal self, you can enhance yourself e.g. wear more of wood coloured clothings e.g. green or brown. Pink, red are acceptable also. For weak fire person, try to avoid rearing fish at home or have a fish tank in the home. Avoid wearing blue. The above is generally the thing to note about personal self. Other than that, it may not be practical, but a `wood' career would be nice (but this advise may be too much thou if you have a steady job... don't on the account of this switch job). For the home, try to enhance the luck of the home by having an acceptable Shapes and Form home. For those who, go further than Shapes and Form could consider neutralising all sectors of the home if it is out of balance after using Flying star to analyse the home. The above are generally, the things to take note. More importantly, think positive and continue to make life fruitful, enjoy friendships etc... Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Vincent, 1. If you have not purchased the painting(S), it is advisable not to place a painting of a water feature in the bedroom (if you can). 2. This is because one `incompatiblity' is because, water positions (real water or symbolic represents Yin elements. Too much water results in too Yin elements). 3. The bedroom is in general, suppose to be more Yin than Yang. (Yin represents rest and Yang activity). 4. Some other FS practitioners would say that too much water i.e. even in paintings especially placed in the room may cause difficulty as too much water itself represents difficulty. 5. This is why, for example, advise is usually not to have a water position at the centre of a house or on the roof e.g. blue tiles on the roof. 6. When a person is suppose to go for an operation, the doctor will advise the patient what are his chances. For example, the doctor will say, that the chances are 60% successful for such an operation. 7. A parallel can also be drawn to Feng Shui. Most Feng Shui theories, could apply to most people. 8. For example, if there is a poison aimed at the main door, most Feng Shui practitioners may say that the chances of `inauspiciousness' affecting the person is e.g. 80%. Perhaps, maybe because of circumstances, or if one has better luck to compensate this, this `20%' may not be affected by it. 9. Thus, what we are always trying to find are situations where, it will most likely either affect a person or alternatively find cures that could succeed. But this is not always 100% successful as mentioned under Para 8. above. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Jennifer, 1. Yes, I understand what you mean. As this concept of a cube saves space but lacks privacy for the four parties. 2. I believe, it will take sometime for you to get used to this concept. In my country, even large companies that has space constraints use the 5 feet by 5 feet work top, in your `cubicle' formation. 3. The only advise, here is not to place a rectangle or square table in the centre of this cube such that there are 4 pointer corners aimed at the back of each person. A circle table is still acceptable. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Sherri, 1. In Feng Shui, it is not so much of trying to find a balance i.e. bring the 5 elements into balance but rather to look at the `root' of a business i.e. to make money. 2. Thus, if one notice carefully, Feng Shui audits for a business is to do with enhancing the location e.g. a restaurant, a shop front to increase business. 3. Therefore, it is not so much of what you produce and try to balance it but to induce sales. 4. Many companies, would then try to consult a FS practitioner to look for a good location for placement of the CEO's table and general office layout, the reception area (the main entrance) and a look at the Marketing and Sales department. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Rochi, Please see below:- This is because the normal Flying Star Feng Shui is meant only for a "horizontal" analysis. But it is not meant to analyse a ground level house no. For those who are not aware, this free module is available under www.geomancy-online.com. For other numbers, you may have to use other numberolgy methods to find out. 1. a garage especially with a vehicle has lots of metal and can be considered `big metal' element. 2. The other consideration is `safety' concerns. I am not sure how many cars suddenly burn by themselves but this is one of the considerations or the `fear' or unneccessary fear of it? There is a I am unable to comment on this as it would be best that it can be seen before giving comments. If I am the one buying this house and if there is a toilet at this position, I would personally avoid buying it as in my opinion, it is considered a major flaw. It is good that if you have the time review some of the recent messages as I have mentioned quite alot on what to look for in a home. In recent messages, in this forum, you get to understand that I emphasie looking at a home using all the available theories such as Shapes and Form and Compass School theories. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, There is truth in what you mentioned as one seldom if ever come across anyone printing red background business cards. 1. Most likely also because red background with black letterings is difficult to read. Red background with white letterings is considered not auspicious. White represents mourning or death to the Chinese. Maybe gold letterings can be used. So far, I have yet to receive or be given a red background business card. It is ok if the company logo e.g. is in red etc... and majority of the time, business cards are mostly white background or shades of white/grey/off-white/beige etc... Warmest Regards Cecil

Dear Anon, Thanks for bringing this up. Actually, I had in mind, at that time for those who worship e.g. Buddha and Goddess of Mercy etc.. Therefore, for those who worship or pray to them, should `separate' the figurines. Otherwise, if one purchased them for `display' then it is still OK to keep them together. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Tervino, Please see below:- Red items can be like what you mentioned a red cloth for example covering the table. Since the item is for curing wood, the best type of cure is a red packet with 6 coins. By default it is automatically determined that 6 is strong metal while 7 is weak metal. And it is often not very good combination to have these two elements together as it creates a natural clash of the metal like a big sword vs a small knife. do we use 6 coins or other metal? Usually, the most of the problems can be solved by the use of the 6 coins either tied with a red string or a red packet. This will usually do the trick. This has been proven to be a rather effective solution for users who had problems with these sectors. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Lisa, With your questions, one can write a book on Feng Shui. *JOKE* I like to firstly, look at your questions from a different perspective:- 1. Feng Shui can adopt parallel from other studies e.g. Management studies, HR, Organisation behaviour studies etc... So how are these related to FS one might ask? 2. Not so long ago, I mentioned that a practitioner or one studying FS and then `apply it' should practise Feng Shui based on your inclinations. Here, it is not about extreme ends of Hot or Cold. Based on the Right and Left brain concept, for example, some of us are more inclined towards mathematics or graphical. For example, those who like to express themselves using drawings are more graphical or alternatively, they may read the last few pages of a book unlike some who must read, Page 1, 2, 3 and so on.... 3. Thus when applying Feng Shui, if one is better off in intuition should go more for Shapes and Form. While those who have difficultly or `see little' under Shapes and Form can try to make more use of Flying Star. 4. I understand from below that most of your questions is based on conflict on the use of the five elements: 4.1 What you should do here is to understand the main objective in the use of each theory. For example, under the Flying Star, it looks at each sector and checks for imbalances of the water / mountain stars and base number. So what one should do here is to neutralise any imbalances at these sectors. Here is like the notion of a `leak'. If there is a leak, plug it first. The consider other things. Therefore, only after you neutralised any imbalances then should you look at other things like, e.g. the color for the room etc... Here, Pillars of Destiny is equally important to determine your element and strength. Not only must you consider your own element and strenght but your partners especially in a room. Here, find a color that can bind both parties. The free analysis is available at www.geomancy-online.com. 5. You should also try to understand the 5 elements concept clearly. If so, there should not be much confusion over the use of FS. Again, know the purpose of each theory or concept and their benefits and limitations. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Rochi, 1. If you want a `Quantum Leap' in finding a good home, it is not just about one issue i.e. the main door. 2. One should not be narrowly focused just on the location of the main door if all else are "so, so " or inauspicious. 3. I mentioned in some forum messages that we must maximise the `score' of the home. For example, I given an example about Examinations. Image that an examination paper consists of 4 sections and each section is compulsory. Here, it is ideal to maximise your marks in all sections. It is no point scoring high marks in Section 1 and failing Section 2 questions. 4. I hope you can see my point that one should not concentrate totally on just one consideration and `forgoing everything else'. 5. Ideally, a good home should have: 5.1. Good Shapes and Form. Such as no missing corners. Avoid water position behind the house etc.. Here, even if a house has good shapes and form, one should also look out for poison arrows to neutralise them. 5.2. How suitable are you to your home? Here, you can use the Eight House theory to look thru the home. Particularly, the intangible force affecting the breadwinner at the main entrance. Also look at the intangible force in locations where, one spends the most time. 5.3. How good is the birth chart of the house. Analysing using the Flying star and others. 6. Thus, we have to look at the whole picture and not just the main door. Ideally, find a home that is `auspicious' at the main door. It would be nice also if the garage door can also be at a good sector. Usually, some have bought a home and wanted to change their main door. They then look at which door is more favourable by analying both the main door and garage door. Since, you are starting out in finding a good house, try to find one where the actual main door is `auspicious' (first). Even if you use the garage door, if you do it right, the first time, usually, the door that has the number of your house can be considered the main entrance door. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear John, In my opinion, statues are more like decorative pieces and dwell on beliefs rather than Feng Shui. If one looks at beliefs, normally, it is placed firstly as a decoration at a location you personally feel comfortable with. Some Chinese family run (small) shops do tend to display either a figurine of it in their shops or just a picture of it. In my opinion, you can `play safe' by following the `standard' Chinese beliefs: 1. Do not place it in your bed room. As a bedroom is considered a `dirty' place i.e. you take off your clothes to change etc... 2. Do not place it on the same wall as the toilet. 3. Do not place it side by side with other Chinese deities such as the Goddness of Mercy, Buddha etc.. If placed side by side, where possible, use different height stands. Or place them further distance. Thanks. Cecil Your Thanks, John This www.hpa.com.au **

Dear Anon, 1. If one does a FS audit, it is good to look at `alternative 1' and `alternative 2'. The alternatives (1 and 2) refers to your analysis of `what if I use the garage door' or use an alternative door your actual main door. 2. Here, we normally, try to see which has better Feng Shui. We then have a bigger picture of the two alternatives. 3. In Feng Shui, many Feng Shui experts believe that it is usually, the door that has your house number. From past experience, you still consider the new door e.g. garage door if you use it more than the main entrance door. So, thus it is best that you do an audit based on the direction of each door first. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Yin Seow, Can I find out more from you: 1. Is there a main gate to your house or is your private compound an open area i.e. no fence. 2. If there is a main gate, where is the position of the main entrance door in relation to it i.e. is it at the straight path of the drive-in pathway. 3. When you stand at the main entrance looking out of the house, is the fire hydrant perpendicular or seems like slicing into the house? If so, please answer Para 4. 4. What is the distance between your main entrance and the fire hydrant (if it is perpendicular). 5. Is the driveway elevated i.e. is your plot of land higher than the road or is it at the same level. Sorry for asking so many questions. If you have a picture, this would even be better. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Liz, Thanks very much for sharing with us your advise:) Yes, ideally, (if possible), it will help. I remembered also in a recent Feng Shui audit of a house, the toilet bowl (Yes, the toilet bowl) is directly above the main entrance door. The owner also encountered `financial' problems. Fortunately, the house has several toilets and after the toilet bowl was removed and covered up, things did turn up well for the owner. Simple things like this may look trival but important. The lesson here is thus to `plug' the weakness of a home. Or I mentioned that if there is a leak, please plug it first. Many people, have the wrong notion and instead of first curing the `disease', simply look for ways to spent money to enhance a `corner'. But of course, for the toilet, the best way is to not use it or remove it - under the condition that you have `spare' toilets. For those who are new, it is interesting to learn that many traditional Chinese homes do not have a toilet. The toilet is far away from the main house. We know that this is not possible today. Once again, Many Thanks, Liz for sharing with us your real life situation. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Linda, 1. Usually, it is important to determine who is the `breadwinner' i.e. the person who earns the most money. If this is `clear-cut'; then it would be best if we are using the Eight House, to try to find a house that best suits this person. 2. If both partners are earning equally, then you should try to find a suitable house where: 2.1 if possible the death/disaster intangible force does not fall at the main entrance or the bedroom. It is acceptable still to have other intangible forces e.g. irritation at the main entrance door. 2.2 Thus look at the main entrance and especially the bedroom. Other than that, it is equally important to find a good home with good Shapes and Form. Plus it would be good to have a good Flying Star chart or neutralise any imbalances there. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Hi, 1. A good location is always on the wall of the `head' of the bed (headrest). 2. In modern times, we are less concerned with the dimension of the size of the photo. But some Feng Shui practitioners may want to consider this. In my opinion, what `feels good' should be acceptable. In my opinion, if you want to hang the wedding photo, my first preference is to hang it as mentioned under Para 1. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Gines, 1. Yes, I have used your layout plan provided to find out the centrepoint of the house. 2. The centrepoint looks like it is at the same location as what you had drawn. Please see below:- Please refer to attached sample showing, North, South, East, West, NE, SE, SW, NW. (every 45degree increment). The easiest is to use a protractor to draw the outline. You do not have to worry if the living room or dining room is `L-shaped'. By dividing as shown in the attachment, it will fit in different sectors. Under the compass school of Feng Shui: Eight House and Flying Star, you need to determine the direction of the main entrance door. Here, it is measured from the centrepoint of the house to the main entrance door. Do check out : http://www.geomancy.net/fs/cecilcompass.htm Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Gines, 1. Thanks for the attachment posted. 2. Yes, the attached layout where I had plotted the centrepoint is close to what you had plotted. (The balcony can be omitted.) 3. Overall, the plus point is that your house is a complete rectangle (exclude the protusion i.e. balcony). 4. Looks like the toilet is considered at the centre-point of the house. 5. Frankly, and honestly speaking, I have not found a proper cure for this. The only thing that has been advised is to keep it more yang or bright. Avoid, placing anything surrounding the toilet wall or the passage way. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Chan, 1. For a house, it is important to understand that the `overriding' consideration before even considering `directions' is the Shapes and Form of the site and the home. 2. Many people like the orientation of a house i.e. from North to South i.e. the frontage is either N-S or S-N. 3. If you are using the Eight House theory: 3.1 Check how suitable are you (the breadwinner) to the house) i.e. the direction of the front door. If it is at your `death or disaster' sector then, this house is the least suitable house to you. 3.2 Next, find out what are the intangible force affecting both of you in the bedroom. Other than the above, and to `face' a good direction, the Eight House Theory has its limits. You should not be too concerned about `harm' if both you and your wife are opposites. Under the Eight house theory, as it is also based the more time you spent at a sector i.e. bedroom. 4. I know that many of us are keen to immediately apply what we `picked' up. `Overnight' or Fast food Feng Shui can be dangerous. Take your time to understand more. For those who are in the Far East, Asia, and want to get their home Feng Shui-ed, should in my opinion consult one of the dozens or hundreds of Feng Shui practitioner. For those who are doing it on your own, try to understand more before `jumping the gun'. I recalled sometime back a very enthusiastic Doctor in East Asia. He bought a Feng Shui book, shortly, he painted his gate, main door a color as he `understood' his element was `xxx'. But subsequently, he felt frustrated that he got his element wrong. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Gordon, If space is a constraint, there is really not much that can be done. Some Feng Shui practitioners may recommend placing a windchime to `neutralise' the pointed edge. However, one should also take note that windchimes may not be favourable. You can do a search in this forum for more information of the `effects' of wind chimes (if wrongly) placed. Regards, Cecil

Dear Angelina, When the proposed solution is to make use of wood to destroy and control earth: 1. If it is the living room, you can use `wood' elements like a potted plant = wood element or use a decorative object made of wood at this location. 2. If it is in the bedroom, you can consider placing a side table and on it a wooden decorative item or a `wooden' lamp. Warmest Regards, Cecil ----- Original Message ----- From: "flying-star Listmanager" To: Sent: Monday, July 10, 2000 7:07 AM Subject: flying star house no.

Dear Clarence Apply Metal cure to destroy 3 wood and exhaust 5 earth star while enhancing your good star 7 metal. Sorry, I think you have got the description or the star number wrong here. Please verify if the 8-1 should be refering to 3-7 instead? So Wood or Metal will help in this case. Here, you need to neutralise any imbalance. Shapes and form can also be looked at. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Clarence, 1. It is good for you to clarify with your friend further on what your friend meant by `reverse' house. 2. In my opinion, or my guess is that `reverse' may refer to the frontage of the house. Here, the frontage of the house e.g. where it looks at the bay or water, may for some homes be the `frontage'. But, it does not mean that when a house turns a certain age, it suddenly has a reverse frontage. Warmest Regards, Cecil

This article is quite interesting: 1. The article mentions that China was the only developing country that contributed to a 1 percent mapping of human genome. 2. How China is making an effort to map the genome of pigs or porkys. Warmest Regards, Cecil
