From 2016 onwards, more and more plots of land in Punggol will have highrise flats... Here's to 6.9 million for SGP. Will it share the same fate as...Hong Kong, below? Resource: Reference: http://www.scmp.com/article/584640/revealed-high-rise-heat-trap Revealed: the high-rise heat trap Thermal image shows HK's urban areas up to 7 degrees hotter than open land - and it's getting worse This high-resolution satellite image reveals for the first time how Hong Kong's high-rises are causing the city to heat up dramatically - with urban areas up to 7 degrees Celsius hotter than rural areas. Scientists fear the difference, known as the urban heat island effect, could be 10 degrees by 2050. The image was taken by the Nasa satellite Terra at 10.42pm on January 31. It shows that large areas of the city - including Central, Mong Kok, Causeway Bay and Kwun Tong - had nocturnal temperatures of more than 18 degrees, while many rural areas were 13 degrees or lower. An area of Kwun Tong next to the old airport was especially hot because of a lack of space between closely packed industrial buildings. It is believed to be the first high-resolution, nighttime image of the urban heat island effect in the world. The variation is caused by the greater heat absorbency of man-made materials such as concrete and asphalt and reduced air circulation around high-rises. Researchers from Polytechnic University were granted a slot on Terra under Nasa's Mission to Planet Earth research programme and used a novel technique to create an image that is accurate to within 10 metres - nine times the resolution of typical thermal satellite images. Janet Nichol, associate professor in Polytechnic University's department of land surveying and geo-informatics, said: 'The image shows that the urban heat island in Hong Kong is concentrated in the areas that are most densely built up with high-rise buildings. 'The temperatures of these areas are 6 or 7 degrees higher than the surrounding rural areas. There is an uninterrupted north-south swathe of warm temperatures extending from the southern tip of Kowloon peninsula through Jordan and Mong Kok to Sham Shui Po. 'If, as scientists predict, temperatures will increase by a further 3 degrees Celsius up to 2050, this means that the ambient air temperature in the urban areas will be 10 degrees higher than the natural level due to the impact of human activity.' Dr Nichol said the image provided the most comprehensive evidence yet of the urban heat island effect in Hong Kong. 'This is because it was taken at night - and urban heat island is a nighttime phenomenon.' Lam Ka-se, from the department of civil and structural engineering, had earlier found a difference of just 2 or 3 degrees. But Dr Nichol said this did not give the full picture because only a few sampling points were used across the city. A 10-member research team took air and ground temperatures at 16 places, including the summit of Tai Mo Shan, Nathan Road in Mong Kok and the Star Ferry Pier in Tsim Sha Tsui, as the satellite was overhead. The high level of detail means temperature effects could be calculated for a housing estate, individual building and even a single row of trees, Dr Nichol said, and planners could use this information to mitigate the heat island effect. 'It has been shown that the more extensive the urban heat island, the greater the magnitude. If you can break it up into smaller packets using vegetation, green corridors and small patches of park, it will decrease the magnitude quite considerably. 'We could also have more roof-top gardens - and even small parks and planting trees along streets would help. One large tree has the impact of two large air conditioners going at full blast. In new areas earmarked for development such as the West Kowloon cultural quarter and Kai Tak, there is a golden opportunity to introduce greening concepts.' Dr Nichol said both developments would enlarge Hong Kong's extensive heat island and drive up temperatures further. Edwin Lau Che-feng, acting director of Friends of the Earth, said he was alarmed by the findings. 'We need the government to bring forward legislation that will require developers to establish parks, gardens, trees and shrubs in any new development project,' he said. Last year was the eighth warmest in Hong Kong since records began in 1884, with an average temperature of 23.5 degrees, half a degree higher than normal. Globally, 2006 was the sixth warmest year on record.

These are some considerations: 1. In the field of strategic management; we can look at it from two levels: 1.1. The Industry 1.2. The job function. 2. Thus; for example; some industries are clear-cut e.g. a car maker is considered as Metal industry. So does a Bank = Metal. 3. But as most of us know; even within an Industry; there are various job functions. 3.1. Thus, if one is is in Customer relations; then it is earth element; 3.2. If in Marketing and sales; then fire element. 4. As you have not clearly mentioned what you are selling; or may be too diverse to fall into a specific category; then no worries, also. As contrary to popular belief; some industries can be diverse and need not belong to just one element! 4.1. In general; those going door to door are often considered as belonging to the "Fire element." 5. But if you are the boss; then most likely your element may be considered as "Wood" i.e. to grow the company.

1. In my opinion, what you wrote is pure utopian or (book-worm) text-book case. 2. This is similar to some who has a misunderstanding of sorts. For example; even today; there are geomancers that say: "close and don't use that master toilet". 3. You stay there; We don't! 4. Please check out my past messages on the "bell curve". 5. For example, even within an estate or a plot of land; there are good homes (or stacks in an apartment); and there are the average or so so homes within that plot of land. 6. Thus, even if one stays in a specific area NW; but within that plot of land or estate; one happens to stay in a bad home, how? Logical or not? 7. For some, a bad excuse to get out of a marriage? Just imagine this:- 7.1. Plantiff: "Judge, my geomancer says that I have live in the Maldives NW. While my wife has to live in Alaska, North!" 7.2. Judge: "How then, can you produce babies?" 7.3. Plantiff: "That's why we can't! And because of this our marriage is a total failure!" 7.4. Plantiff: "You see, even when we WERE together; I had to sleep facing West and my wife facing East. I end up smelling her stinking feet and vice-versa!" 7.5. Judge: "Is this a sick, joke? I am sending you to the hospital to get your head examined!"

Recently, a client asked me whether, should he consider buying a semi-detached: marked in red as "X" in the attachment. He was also concerned with the road "leading" towards the newly TOP semi-detached. home. He is correct to be concerned. The stretch of road marked as "A" and highlighted in bold yellow is not advantages to that home.

Truly, one of a kind design in Singapore. Overall, in terms of qi flow, because of the interlace, it does help to have qi flow all round the entire estate. Thus, no single block has more or less air (qi flow). Which is a good thing.

In my opinion, it has nothing to do with Feng Shui. But falls under beliefs. Elephants are revered in several cultures especially in India and Thailand. In Thailand, white elephants (if found and authenticated); the owners were richly rewarded and will come under the Royal patronage. There were some cases where grey elephants were found, later to be "white". Anyway, elephants are revered for their strength and intelligence. And also are social animals. Thus, it is a good omen for your brother given also that elephants (in general) = longevity, strong and smart. A good hallmark for his coming newborn son.

These are further considerations: 1. Some "girls" don't like their age to be revealed. Of course, if asked; would deny this "allegation" 2. Another old Chinese tale is: "if we (drink) another person's saliva; we would have to (listen) to them".... 3.The concern that when one blows out or snuff out a candle; it is considered inauspicious; to me is the least of the concerns - if any. 4. After, hearings so many negatives; I am sure; or rather guarantee that all your colleagues will not want to eat another birthday cake that has lighted candles... chuckle... hahahahahaha...

Australian children to be banned from blowing out candles on birthday cakes together because they might spread germs They must also wash hands before playing in sandpit New guidelines issued by National Health and Medical Research Council By Richard Shears PUBLISHED: 12:56 GMT, 6 February 2013 | UPDATED: 08:05 GMT, 7 February 2013 Australian children are to be banned from blowing out candles together on birthday cakes ? because they could be puffing germs onto one another. And in what is seen as an attempt to ?bubble wrap? children, youngsters attending birthday parties will be told to take along individual cup cakes on which to place single candles. The extraordinary new guidelines from the country?s National Health and Medical Research Council has provoked an angry response from parents who say that the ?nanny state? is trying to take all the fun out of birthday parties. Sensible or a load of hot air? Children in Australia are to be banned from blowing out candles no birthday cakes together because of fears they will spread germs (file picture posed by model) Even doctors say that the birthday rules are going to far ? because children are also now expected to wash their hands before jumping into a sandpit to play with their friends. Day care staff will also be instructed to wash toys, doorknobs floors and cushion covers every day to prevent the spread of germs. The guidelines state that kids who want to blow out a candle at birthday parties should bring their own cupcakes to avoid blowing germs over one another when they puff on a shared cake. ?Children love to blow out their candles while their friends are signing ?Happy birthday?? states a guidelines document from the research council. 'Elf and safety gone mad: The new guidelines also say that children will be expected to wash their hands before jumping into a sandpit to play with their friends (file picture) But it adds: ?To prevent the spread of germs when the child blows out the candles, parents should either provide a separate cupcake, with a candle if they wish, for the birthday child.? Alternative, it says, enough cupcakes should be provided for the other children ? or a large cake that can be cut up into portions and shared should be made available. Turning to sandpits, the council says that children must wash their hands with alcohol sanitiser before and afterwards. The guidelines have astonished Australian Medical Association president Mr Steve Hambleton. ?If somebody sneezes on a cake, I probably don?t want to eat it either ? but if you?re blowing out candles, how many organisms are transferred to a communal cake, for goodness sake?? he told Sydney?s Daily Telegraph. Mr Hambleton also attacked the new sandpit rules, saying that all that was necessary was for children to wash their hands before they ate. ?It?s normal and healthy to be exposed to a certain amount of environmental antigens that building up our immune systems. ?If you live in a plastic bubble you?re going to get infections (later in life) that you can?t handle,? he told the paper. Also attacking the ?clean hands? rules, Miss Gwynn Bridge, president of the Australian Childcare Alliance said she was certain parents did not disinfect the door handles at home every day. In my opinion, please don't!!!! As if I am not mistaken; recently read an article: for hygiene purposes; blowing out a small number of candles is bad enough! Blowing all 40 (or 4 big ones); no offence: the entire surface of the cake is full of that birthday person's and other's (helper's) saliva material. yucks! Yucks! And yucks!

In my opinion, even within a good Feng Shui site; there are also the good, the bad and the "ugly" homes within it. In every development; most homes also subscribe to the "bell curve" effect: http://forum.geomancy.net/phpforum/article.php?bid=2&fid=6&mid=32648&new=

Further to what I had mentioned: 1. It is a common fallacy that many of us seem to think that Feng Shui is a "cure all". 2. What I believe from what you wrote is that you are confused and apprehensive that given your personal experience; you did not get any good results from a previous audit. 3. Again. Try to look at the root of the issue: "Is your home an unpolished gem or a rotten apple?". 3.1. This is the key for better understanding of the realities of LIFE. 4. Attached are previous illustrations. On why some homes even if they are brand new or costs millions may not be good in terms of Fung the Sway aka. Feng Shui.

This is based on pure common sense and scientific:- Your Home: An unpolished gem or a rotten apple? http://wiki.geomancy.net/wiki/Your_Home:_An_unpolished_gem_or_a_rotten_apple%3F Some of the considerations from the above link:- 2. Only after doing a proper Triage can one find out whether a home (or your home) is an unpolished gem or a true rotten apple or somewhere in between. 3. For example; if a home is like an unpolished gem; some enhancements can bring great (good) results. 3.1 Most homes are usually between these two: and after considering the science of Feng Shui; if one (via the Art of Feng Shui) properly enhance + neutralize bad Qi; often one can see good results. 4. However, or unfortunately; some homes are like a 10 year old 1,000cc car. No matter how much enhancements or Elastoplast (fix leaks); does not help. Even if it is brand new. Frankly, everyone seems to think that automatically, after a "proper" Feng Shui audit has been done; a 1,000 cc Suzuki can become a high end luxury car. This is only wishful thinking. And this, I feel explains why, some try to seek the holy grail of a Feng Shui master that can even cure such things. Frankly, even if there is a god; God, cannot do miracle cure. Especially those who subscribe to the Alien theory.

You wrote: "Also, Stack 9 is SW facing. I am an East Group person, Is it ok to sleep with head facing or pointing to northwest as it seems it is most natural to place the bed against the wall pointing to NW in the master br. Northwest is unfavorable dir for East gp people...." These are further considerations:- 1. In theory; for an East group person; of course if it is possible to sleep with the head facing N, S, SE and East would be great. 2. But, unless one tries to built a home from scratch; many more; buy off-the-shelf homes. 3. And often, when most of us step into a bedroom; automatically would visualise; logically where the bed-head (bed) should be placed. 3.1. First priority is based on Shapes and Forms Feng Shui. Which you had mentioned; "NATURAL" thing to do. 4. Always remember: IT IS NICE TO and not a MUST-DO. 4.1. Thus, it is nice to sleep with the head facing one's good sector. BUT IT is not a Must-do. 5. And one of the concept is to "Maximise marks" as mentioned in an earlier message. 5.1. Common sense also says that if husband is west and wife is east group; ain't it pure crazy for the husband to sleep with the wife's legs and vice versa.

You asked: "Any bad implication ? etc..." There is a methodology used by must sciences. For example; even in Feng Shui, you need todo a "Triage" and an overview of the entire situation. You wrote: " I am an East Group person, Is it ok to sleep with head facing or pointing to northwest as it seems it is most natural to place the bed against the wall pointing to NW in the master br. Northwest is unfavorable dir for East gp people...." You already instinctively said it: "most natural to place ......... ". If you are into D.I.Y:- http://wiki.geomancy.net/wiki/Feng_Shui_Triage And also:- http://wiki.geomancy.net/wiki/The_Concept_of_Maximizing_Marksand many other concepts before someone can make an educated guest. Some homes are like an unpolished gem. While others; need an uphill task to bring up the luck of the home/apartment.
